  1. Well it was close for a few minutes and we made it out of the first not trailing. I guess the only suspense left tonight is whether Tomko will outhit the Brewers.
  2. Still not sure where my utter distaste for the Cards comes from, but they look ripe for the picking. Guess who drives my anti-Cardinal feelings: http://www.stu-man.com/archives/larussa.jpg
  3. Maybe, just maybe, the club ought to be putting together an offense that can score runs as opposed to getting people like Royce Clayton, Keith Osik, and Mark Smith. Yeah, Texas, Colorado, and Cincinnati are all great examples of teams that just need more hitting. Unfortunately they can't outhit what their own pitching staff gives up. The problem is not JUST the offense and not JUST the pitching. The problem is that this team lacks talent. We don't need a few more hitters and the same pitching staff. We don't need a new pitching staff and the same hitters. We need more of EVERYTHING. As long as you are happy with having Wayne Franklin or Matt Kinney as your #2 starter, you've lost the battle and you're just going to diminish the losing. The key is not to form attachments to players simply because they are Brewers especially if they aren't better than replacement level.
  4. What a horse Richmond is. Expect an off-season of more 60+ post threads on the "trade Richie" issue. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif What a performance in front of a perfect team to target for Richie's services. I hope Sabean has a good seat to see what a real 1B and offensive threat would do for his anemic offense.
  5. Henry Aaron is part of the Atlanta organization and so is unavailable. Again! There is no time for reality in the Clancyverse.
  6. Well, except for the fact that Pac Bell plays worse for LH hitters. Stop pissing on play time endaround! I want Barry Bonds to pitch and Richie Sexson behind the plate. How about Ned Yost in LF and Henry Aaron as DH.
  7. WHY, LORD??? Silly Greg, of course at this time of the year with the team in 5th place in the NL Central every game counts to prevent the Brewers from ending up in last place. Blow out Sheets shoulder! So what, we need that extra win. If Ben's feeling tired, call him a sissy and question Seaver's paternity. Real battlers don't complain about torn labrum's!!!
  8. Wes Obermueller to date: 9 Starts 6 Quality Starts 0 Wins 4 Losses 4 straight games where the Brewers won, but Wes didn't get the decision (before tonight). And he only left with a 3 run lead tonight before the bullpen imploded.
  9. If Yost puts Vizcaino in the next game Wes leaves with a 3-run lead then Nedly should be fired immediately. How many times has Luis blown a lead for Wes? 3? Jesus.
  10. But of course I expect that we'll be scraping the fringes of the scrap heap again this off-season. What do ya' mean? I hear Pedro Astacio's recovery is coming along nicely and he's looking for a 2004 contract. He might not be completely healed, but that hasn't stopped the Brewers from signing players and guaranteeing them starting positions. One thing that should be said in defense of Franklin and Kinney is that neither have missed any starts this year due to injury. Remember when we'd have a lot of starting pitchers on the DL due to one sort of arm problem or another? And that's the difference between a 106-loss team and a 90-95-loss team. That's NOT the difference between a good team and a crappy team. As long as the Brewers toss out replacement level for Starters #2, #3, and #4 they'll be a horrible team. That's the point.
  11. I'd love to have a jerk like Sheff on my team, heck, I'd take 25 of them. But you'd have to pay them more than minimum.
  12. Luis never should have gone out for the 5th. I was "watching" the game on MLB Gameday and it didn't seem like any 2 pitches were within 12 inches of each other as most seemed to be all over the place. Not pretty numbers for facing the Reds AAA squad. Either he was way too nervous or maybe his tank is empty (naw, battlers never admit to being tired). On a side note, for those who watch more of the games, does Podsednik have much plate discipline? I've seen at least 3 times during the Reds series where he's struck out basically with his bat on his shoulder and he hasn't swung at more than 1 ball in the strike zone. There's no reason in the world with 2 strikes he shouldn't be protecting the plate, but once again in the 5th he lOOks at strike 3. I wonder if his walks are more a result of not swinging and making the pitcher throw strikes than any real sign of plate discipline. With Ginter it's pretty clear he knows the strike zone, with Podsednik it's not clear at all.
  13. Why oh why is Clayton batting? Obviously to sacrifice Perez to 3B with a weak ground ball. Maybe Clayton's hands are moving so fast that the bat can't catch up.
  14. So... is he alive? That's a good question. Riddle me this batman, is there any evidence that Ned Yost's brain is alive.
  15. What is the sound of one roster spot rotting? Was that a reference to Enrique Cruz? If not make that ....the sound of TWO roster spots rotting.... gotta watch out for us OS X users My condolances Bill, I didn't know you were one of the handicapped. Don't despair, by the time OS MX is out Apple would have caught up with Windows 2000.
  16. Grounding into double plays...just took all the momentum away time after time.... I guess a strikeout is better sometimes. It's nice to see a game like today (well not that nice from the result), but it's nice to see why we play these games. While looking at the AAA Reds and the Brewers, some fans might think the Brewers are a slam dunk winner, but you still have to PLAY THE GAMES. I still can't wait until the Brewers have a lot more talent on the team, but at least we're seeing some positives this year after the disaster of 2002.
  17. Dontrelle Willis has pretty much collapsed. While his peripheral numbers aren't as good as Webb's, he has 3 more wins, 1 more CG and Shutout and more press. I think the next few weeks will determine the winner, but I don't think you can rule Willis out at this point. I think Webb has had a nice year, but both pitchers need to finish strong. I think if one of them does finish strong, Scotty would have to have a great August, if both limp to the finish line, Podzilla has a chance.
  18. Dontrelle Willis? Wouldn't this have been a sweet 12th-consecutive win? I believe this would have been lucky 13 if we hadn't lost on friday.
  19. Doug Glanville leading off? Oh my. Add to that Tony Womack PH for the second game in a row for the pitcher. Dusty Baker is the biggest moron in baseball. With a rotation of Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Clement, and anyone it's unimaginable that they can't win at least 60% of their games. Maybe the Dusty mystique will finally evaporate.
  20. C'mon Matt, How the hell can you walk Paul Bako? Testes lasted 6 outs, is that more amazing than the fact he still has a rotation spot?
  21. Would it kill the management to open the checkbook so we don't put folks like Vander Wal out there every day? To back up Jenkins, fine, but out there behind Sexson every day - that shouldn't be the case. But Vanderwaail was backup for Hammonds. And Podsednik was backup for Sanchez. The problem wasn't as much not having enough backups, but who they chose in the first place. How about the Crew starting another streak tomorrow? Well if they lose, they'll have a losing streak.
  22. Did you see how the Cubs lost their last two games? Their bullpen hasn't been reliable lately. True but I wonder if the bullpen problems aren't partly due to poor use. Guthrie, Remlinger, and Farnsworth have all thrived on regular use before. Dusty is in between a rock and a hard spot. He's between his head and his ..........
  23. Would it kill Richie to take a few pitches?
  24. The only good thing about the Cubs being in the playoff hunt is that if they did make it into the playoffs all of their starters would be shot from being constantly abused by Baker. Every day that goes by and Dusty comes closer to securing the spot of MisManager of the Year in my books.
  25. c'mon Dusty bring in Remlinger or Alfonsucka
