  1. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Eveland resembles David Wells I always find these comparisons kinda ridiculous since they are often made because 2 players look alike. Heck, the Maddux brothers share a ton of genes in common and they 1) don't look that similar, and 2) have had different levels of careers. I think any scout that compares 2 players mainly on their looks should be shot, buried, dug up and shot again.
  2. Perhaps Mr. Melvin was doing a bit of cover-up himself when he mentioned that taking pitchers early was risky? It is possible that Dougie is trying to be evasive and not give away his intentions. As far as Loewen goes, Melvin CAN NOT say anything specifically about him since he is Orioles property and any statements regarding Loewen would be considered tampering.
  3. Some of this info comes from Anup Sinha's report on T1, where he also said one scout said that Manny Parra was a lot better of a prospect last year, and was surprised that Loewen was asking for $4 million. Like I said, a lot of people walked away unimpressed, but it seems as though this was far from one of his better performances. The stuff was there, but it would seem that his command/control was not. This could be very good news. If the Orioles are influenced by the bad outing they probably won't want to move into the $4M range and Loewen may not sign. OTOH, the Brewers might look at that performance and decide not to take him if he was available at #2. How many bad games has Mark Prior had in his career? How about Bullington? And as far as Anup Sinha's report, does that scout understand draft postion/slot money and their relation?
  4. Still there's plenty of evidence for those that aren't convinced that the Brewers haven't been going cheap on the draft for quite awhile now. If you overpay for a Hyundai are you cheap or a spender?
  5. In '95, Mo Vaughn had three triples. IIRC, those were all HR, but he couldn't make it around the bases and he ended up getting oxygen at 3B so he was only awarded a 3B.
  6. ......David and Al teaming together threatening to call me Harold and beat me with large sticks with sample size engraved on them...... New Fanfest Event? Put it on the schedule Brian! I have been impressed with JJ's results this year. I am also impressed with Alex Sanchez and Geoff Jenkins so far. I just don't jump on/off bandwagons easily until I am convinced (large enough sample size) that the player has evolved. I've spent too much time following dead-ends because the preliminary evidence looked too good. I've always liked JJ as a prospect and he's done nothing this year BUT make me look forward to the day he is playing every day in Milwaukee.
  7. C'mon Angelos, keep playing low-ball... My understanding is that the Orioles are not able to negotiate with him until the end of his season. Now I believe you brought up a problem with the JC playoffs regarding the draft, so I am not sure when Loewen's season might be done, but I would guess somewhere in mid-May if they don't go to the playoffs. Given that the draft would only be a few weeks away, Adam then has to decide on taking the Orioles money or negotiating with either Milwaukee or Tampa Bay (depending on who drafts him) and hoping to get slightly better money. Since the money might not be that different (I am assuming the Orioles will have to move into the $4M ballpark if they have any chance to sign him) then he really has to decide on organization as the main point of whether to sign with Baltimore or not. If we are lucky and Angelos is much more interested in spending that $4M on a FA stud (Vlad?) than a teenager prospect than we may have a good chance. It will definitely be exciting to watch the developments or lack of. I'm keeping everything crossed including my twisted sense of humor http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif .
  8. We'll see if Luis can come up with the consistency that Paul Stewart had last year after the first month......... So Melvin can release him?
  9. I was merely pointing out an early trend. You REALLY want to be smote by the Gods of Sample Size! For the record Brian Prince's K rate isn't all that great it works out to about 100 in a full season, which is perfectly fine by me but it's not like he's this awesome contact hitter. And also for the record, he is on a 100HR pace. I'll take 100K, no BB, and 100HR for a season any day of the week.
