  1. I just want to know who's going to play SS when Yuni goes back to being Yuni? Yes Hairston can play short, but he hasn't played there much at all and he's getting up in age. Just not sure he's the answer at SS. I love the move as it covers everything else as far as a bench player goes, but it leaves the SS hole gaping now.
  2. Bernman, Haudricourt always criticizes the Brewers and their personnel. The Brewers have nothing to do with his job, he'd be a beat writer for a different sport or for another team if the Brewers were gone. Now as far as how he's reacting to the Taylor Green questions, I'm not sure what his deal is.
  3. It's really sad watching him struggle to hit a ball out of the infield, or in the air in general. Almost all of his outs during the streak are ground outs. The flyouts are weak popups, usually in the infield or at the cut of the outfield grass. He's just really pathetic right now, and I think even though we all like him, he's just done. He honestly looks worse than Wil Nieves up there, and that is truly sad.
  4. He's had one injury, so if you're insinuating he's injury prone I'm not sure I get that. As far as a broad generalization of 'he could get injured' that doesn't make sense either. Anyone can get injured. Wheeler can get injured for the Mets, but they didn't want to scout him for 2 months before they made the deal. Not saying they couldn't want to do that, but to me it just doesn't add up.
  5. I'd have to assume they'd want a lot for Ramirez. He's swinging the bat well and he's a middle of the order hitter. Bad contract or not, he's worth a couple good prospects. Plus, I still have a hard time believing Doug or RR want to take Casey out of the lineup, especially after he's been getting some RBI's the last few games.
  6. I have to agree that he's not on the list of 5 Melvin gave to the Mets. It just wouldn't make sense. At this point, Green, Gamel, and about 3 pitchers are our 'big' prospects. Melvin explicitly said it won't be anyone big. Plus, the Mets were looking to dump K-Rod just to avoid the clause in his contract, which probably would have been close to happening already if he was closing for the Mets right now. That's why they moved him, they wanted salary relief not any big player. I think the reason Green hasn't been given a shot is because Gamel is a higher priority, AND they want to give McGehee every last shot. And I've said this before, but if Green was one of the players, why wouldn't the Mets have just taken him (ie Green and a PTBNL instead of 2 PTBNL)
  7. I personally don't discredit the guy, because Jim Breen (granted, he is a blogger and more privy to knowledge) broke the Greinke trade with an unknown source. Then others chimed in and it eventually was completed. HOWEVER, this trade seems to make littler sense. We get a LHP in the bullpen sure, and perhaps Rios could be a backup OF but why take on all his salary? Apparently we would get Escobar as well in the deal, which certainly sweetens it considering he's a SS, but he's still probably not MLB ready. I don't know, as others have said it certainly could happen (stranger things have) but it just doesn't seem likely.
  8. Lopez is purely for depth, at least I'm hoping he is. This guy has been terrible ever since he took off the Brewers uniform, and there's a reason he's been cut a ton of times since then. He sucks on offense and is a butcher in the field (at least at SS and 3B). I have to assume there are multiple moves coming, because if Melvin doesn't then that is truly a mistake.
  9. I don't know, it sounds like a typical thing a GM would say. However, if it's true and Melvin stands pat after the meager acquisition of Felipe Lopez (who has been DFA'd like 5 times in the last couple years) then that is really a pathetic mistake. The Brewers truly need an upgrade at SS and on the bench, and until Weeks is back, that bench upgrade has to be able to play 2B well. I'm still hopeful for Carroll and Barmes, but after the Lopez deal, my hope is fleeting. Though I heard we're doing background checks on Furcal's health. But with that I heard the Dodgers will not give up both Furcal and Carroll. Who knows, I just hope Melvin is smart enough to realize Lopez sucks.
  10. There's three spots on the roster that are easily replaceable at this point. Brett Carroll, Josh Wilson, and Betancourt. Obviously we are still looking for a backup OF so he would be the one who replaced Carroll but yeah, get a starting SS to replace Yuni and a Jamey Carroll type to replace Wilson and play second until Rickie is back. They'd probably just send down Farris until Weeks is back then cut Wilson though.
  11. I know we've been in on Barmes as well, but all I'm seeing today is Jamey Carroll from those more privy to the knowledge. I just really worry Doug overpays for Carroll then doesn't feel it necessary to trade for a SS.
  12. The only thing I can think of is now expanding a deal that may have already been in place to include another INF. Like maybe adding Furcal to a deal with Carroll from the Dodgers. Or if any part of that White Sox deal is true, perhaps expanding the package to add Beckham or Eduardo Escobar from their minors.
  13. I wonder what the lineup should be in the meantime before they make any moves? Perhaps Morgan gets a shot to leadoff finally? Morgan Hart Braun Fielder McGehee Betancourt Lucroy Counsell/Wilson
  14. I echo the sentiments of both Carroll and Barmes. I can't imagine Carroll costing much considering the Dodgers situation, and he fills in nicely in Wilson's spot. Then Barmes is your new starter at SS. I said this in the Weeks topic, but now that Rickie's bat is out of the lineup, the defense becomes even more important, and with an already bad INF defense getting potentially worse (depending on internal replacement) these two deals could become absolutely necessary. I think Gamel could come up and fill Weeks spot in the time being in this scenario.
  15. The proposed deal makes absolutely no sense at this point. We get prospects and Rios for Gamel? With most of the money being paid? What? Rios is unnecessary first of all, then second of all what prospects? And why? We need MLB talent at this point. Next year is for rebuilding the farm. The only deal I could see from the Sox is one that involves a terrible contract and Alexei Ramirez or Gordan Beckham. That way we give up less to take on part of a crappy contract and we also get a great infielder. And just a caviat, I saw earlier that Haudricourt specifically asked Melvin if he had talked to the White Sox about any deals and he said he hasn't even spoken to Kenny Williams at all. Considering when he's usually talking to people he pulls the "I don't want to discuss that" card, seems pretty clear-cut he doesn't have any deal in the works. Who knows though.
  16. It looked REALLY bad on the replay, but we already know there was no fracture. It's just down to the ligaments. The fact that he could put any pressure on it at all was somewhat positive. It is odd to see teammates saying it's not too serious, though I suspect that's just what he said to them when he was being walked out. Overall if there's no serious ligament damage, it's probably a whole month type thing. To istan, the fact that it took you that long should make everyone more optimistic. Weeks has incredible doctors, and access to therapy and treatment for it, not to mention unlimited cortisone shots. It's got me thinking though. Does this make Melvin more inclined to pick up both Barmes and Carroll (or a similar INF duo)? Then Barmes is your SS replacing Yuni, and Carroll can fill Wilson's spot as another utility guy. Weeks likely gets replaced internally by Gamel (if they get Carroll) or Green. Maybe even Farris. I personally hope Melvin does something like that now, because without Rickie's bat in the lineup, it puts even more pressure on a terrible defense. Bolstering that D should help a lot honestly. They can't afford to not do something if Weeks is out more than 2 weeks.
  17. Maybe, but I think Thornburg is untouchable at this point.
  18. At the end of the day I'm just hoping we get Barmes. I'd take Ryan too but it seems like a long shot. Wandy doesn't interest me, but I wouldn't be surprised if Melvin jumped on that.
  19. Being reported as a done deal by a couple people on twitter. Not good at the whole twitter thing but: http://twitter.com/#!/TylerLockman/status/96302359919067136 http://twitter.com/#!/BrewerNation/status/96302278797037568
  20. Yes, because the Cardinals are God's gift to baseball MJ. Fate is on their side! On a serious note...the bullpen help they got is negligible as Dotel is really old and it's doubtful that he can seriously close games at this point with declining stuff. The LHP has been decent, but it seems as though he's just a LOOGY so not much to write home about. Patterson is a backup, but perhaps he will turn his career around because he's playing for the almighty St. Louis Cardinals. Overall, can't judge the trade til I see if they can fix Jackson's command issues, but at present it seems like a pretty pointless deal.
  21. Yeah, Beltran alone doesn't make their lineup anymore menacing IMO. It's just as hard to hit well at AT&T Park as it is at Citi Field so there won't be any offensive outburst by switching parks. I'll admit, the Giants offense is now better with Sandoval, Beltran, Huff but not much. If the deal goes through as speculated, they overpaid a lot. Their two best prospects for a guy that will be gone in two months, all because they feared the Braves would move in.
  22. Well if Green is included in the list of players, then Melvin must really think he isn't going to be much at the bigs.
  23. I think the most likely scenario is a smaller SS deal (crossing fingers on Barmes or Ryan) and then perhaps a surprise big deal like Beltran. Then for other INF depth and backup OF, they will pickup someone off the waiver wire transactions. I just don't see Doug making 3 moves (small or not) in rapid succession in the next few days. Like I said, if he makes multiple moves I think one will be a splash deal. Carroll and Barmes/Ryan would really improve this team though. I still don't think you'll see Counsell or Kotsay cut simply because Counsell is still an icon to fans, and Kotsay is Ron's go-to guy (for whatever reason). So in those scenarios you'd see Wilson DFA'd with hopes he'd go to the minors and Yuni completely let go. Fingers crossed boys.
  24. Well it's Jackson, Octavio Dotel, and some LHP out of the bullpen whose name I wish to not attempt to spell. So it's definitely becoming a little more worth St. Louis' while. Shore up the 'pen and add a decent SP.
  25. Obviously the Brewers are a longshot, but just yesterday I heard Heyman on MLB Network saying the Brewers are still in on him. Also Melvin didn't deny anything when asked about it directly yesterday. Just said he doesn't want to talk about players from that team. Seems interesting to me. Overall I stick to my point that unless Hart is moved, there is no reason to overpay for Beltran. The infield is the priority.
