  1. I don’t think there is any need to even discuss prospects in any deal with the Yankees. As Eye Black pointed out in another thread, the Yankees are loaded already and have a rule 5 crunch much like the Brewers. Any deal involving Gray and/or Drury is going to be for MLB players. The Yankees match up with the Brewers in that they could use a LH 1B. We have one of those who we are trying to play in RF. The question to me is, do you move Thames for a package involving Gray, Drury, etc?
  2. I would love to take a chance on Gray especially since we are now down a starter and we have no idea what Davies or Nelson are going to give us, if anything. I say this because Gray has a connection with Brewers pitching coach Derek Johnson. Gray has also been his usual self outside of Yankee stadium. If he can be had for cheap, I would def go get him and let Johnson get to work on him. There are not any good available SP options out there and the Brewers will need someone since Peralta most likely will hit a innings limit. Either they take a chance on someone who has been pitching this whole season or hope for the best with players coming back from injury.
  3. Yeah. I would not do anything close to Ortiz, Lutz and Supak that miloyd proposed. I think of these guys as buy low candidates because I really don’t want the Brewers to burn any top prospects in other deals.
  4. Perez (age 27): .255/.282/.386 in 1,466 career plate appearances Drury (age 25): .267/.316/.439 in 1,095 career plate appearances Drury may not be a world beater but he is a clear cut upgrade over Perez. Gray is the guy that interests me but if we can get Drury for next to nothing, I would do it.
  5. Drury is much better than what we have. He is only 25 while in his 4th big league season. Career .755 OPS and even higher when he played full time for the Dbacks. Again, these could be inexpensive improvements to the club. But he's not an improvement. He's less than a 1 WAR player for his entire career, while Villar is at 1.4 just for 2018. He's also having a terrible season, and recent history matters too. He's going to get more expensive after 2018 in arbitration and he's not worth it. He's slashing. 180/.255/.280 this year. If he was doing that in Milwaukee, we'd be asking why he hasn't been optioned down yet, not when he's going to become the everyday second baseman. That slash line is a VERY small sample size for this year. 17 games and just like 50 plate appearances with no consistent play time. He has spent most his time in AAA this year where he has a .848 OPS.
  6. Drury is much better than what we have. He is only 25 while in his 4th big league season. Career .755 OPS and even higher when he played full time for the Dbacks. Again, these could be inexpensive improvements to the club.
  7. I respectfully disagree. He is only 25 years of age and carries a career .755 OPS in his first 4 years in the Majors. He is much better then what we are putting out there.
  8. Both players would be under team control beyond this year and both seem to be being shopped by the Yankees. What would it take to get them as they both seem to be buy low candidates who the Yankees are trying to trade? Gray has done well outside of Yankee stadium and Drury is a career .750+ ops guy who can play 2B (besides 3B and corner OF).
  9. This is actually an interesting idea, but who would we match up with them on? They'd have no need for Domingo, otherwise that could be a good 1 for 1 type deal. I'm guessing they'd probably have interest in Thames to play 1B for them, but I would hate to give up ET's big left handed bat in our lineup (even though we don't have enough room for all of our OF's and 1B). My thought was Thames. Maybe a bigger trade with the Yanks including Sonny Gray and the Brewers throwing in a prospect (one subject to Rule 5)?
  10. I am consistently seeing Brandon Drury of the Yankees in trade talks for rentals the Yankees are/were after. Might this be someone to trade for since the Yankees obviously don’t have room for him. He has played 2B and 3B with a decent bat. Controllable through 2021.
  11. Agreed, that is a very good thing that it is not an arm or shoulder.
  12. Zack Brown exits after just 3 2/3 innings and 48 pitches. I am hoping this was preplanned as some sort of pitch/inning count....
  13. I am quoting myself here but I wanted to make a point of saying that I DO NOT want the Brewers to trade the likes of Yelich, Cain, Aguilar, Shaw, Arcia, Pina, Knebel, Hader or Jeffress. To me, these guys are the core of the team. Nelson and Davies are both coming off of lost seasons so they will most likely be Brewers next year regardless. I am looking at trading pieces where we already have MLB ready talent depth with Santana and Arcia being the guys we add at the deadline. My idea is to build for a serious WS type run for the next 3 years. The reemergence of Nelson, Davies, Santana and Arcia, while ading a TOR starter does just that. Giving up a few pieces from our MLB roster now, helps ease the pain of what will be needed to get that TOR guy. I will also add that my original post on this does say to go this route only if the Brewers continue to slide.
  14. Have the Brewers ever had a minor leaguer with a 30/30 season? I don’t remember any. Heck it looks like he will at least get to a 25/40 season.
  15. I am still thinking the opportunity to get a TOR stater will be best had this off season. For that reason, if the Brewers continue to slide, I start to trade the likes of Guerra (if he gets back in time, otherwise deal Anderson), Chacin and Thames for some lower level, high upside prospects. This helps prepare for another big off season splash to help us in 2019. I would ride this season out with Santana and Arcia to get them back on track and at least get some innings for Nelson and Davies if possible. We can see what we have in Burnes, Peralta and Woodruff by giving them some time in the rotation with others gone. The goal would be to get a true TOR starter (Syndergaard?) to add to Nelson, Davies and who ever is left of the others (not traded at the deadline or in the off season). I would offer NY a package of Hiura, Peralta, Woodruff, Ray and Supek for Syndergaard. That would leave us with Burnes, Suter and Anderson to round out the rotation. Medeiros, Brown and Ortiz would be depth at AAA. If Santana and Arcia trend back up to fulfill their potential, the offense would have more depth and balance. The bullpen would get a HUGE boost if we could move a Suter there to log multiple innings a few times a week. He would be a key to keeping the back end fresh.
  16. I know Cain is a GREAT CF but I would have loved to see Broxton get the chance to steal that HR away from Kiki.
  17. Completely agree with this. I don't understand how he's still with the team / what benefit he adds. He's so frustrating over there at third base. Ed Sedar will always keep his job. He is the 3B coach. We all just have to live with it. I only say this with conviction because of what Bob Brenly (DBacks tv guy) said on the air early this year while the Brewers were playing the DBacks. Apparently Brenly interviewed for the Brewers position a while back and told the story that regardless of anything, Sedar stays. He made it sound like it retaining Sedar was a requirement for the job.
  18. Corey Ray still doing it all. HR #18 and 2 more steals brings him up to 30 on the season. 3/4 tonight.
  19. My guess is that along with Hader, Burnes won’t be used unless the team has a lead.
  20. Then we agree to disagree, however, not sending Pina was the right move... Not sending Pina was fine. That out was on Broxton. Sending a pitcher to try and score from 1st, with Aguilar on deck and the opposing pitcher on the ropes, is dead wrong in my opinion. Especially when your team just had a BAD out on the base paths already.
