  1. If they truly just left Perdomo off their lineup card that’s completely unacceptable. This was also the perfect situation for him to get an inning.
  2. Per Robert Murray: At least one Chicago Cubs player is being placed on the COVID list, according to sources familiar with the situation. It’s believed to be out of abundance of caution. EDIT: Murray’s follow up information... Chicago Cubs bullpen coach Chris Young has tested positive for COVID-19. Jason Adam, Dan Winkler and Brandon Workman are being placed on the 10-day Injured List out of abundance of caution.
  3. Good point. The value of infield defense is different when you have a Freddy Peralta starting versus when you have a Brett Anderson starting. I have no doubt that between Freddy starting and having their top relievers available they feel more comfortable about the number of balls likely to be put in play this evening.
  4. Looks like they’re going with the goal line package on the infield tonight, hopefully Freddy just strikes everyone out and it doesn’t really matter.
  5. Although he hasn’t officially retired from playing baseball, Jedd Gyorko has been named the manager of the West Virginia Black Bears of the new MLB Draft League. Article: MLB Draft League Announces Managers for 2021 Season

  7. The Brewers now have the 4th best run differential (+5) in the National League behind only the Dodgers, Reds, and Padres.
  8. Brewers not only have a winning record (5-4), but [sarcasm]even more importantly[/sarcasm] they now have a +5 run differential on the season!
  9. Shaw hit a foul ball off his right ankle and was limping a bit at the end of the inning.
  10. As frustrating as the offense has been at times in the first ten days of the season, I feel a lot better about the Brewers overall season outlook as a team than I would if I was a Cubs or Cardinals fan right now.
  11. Sort of back to your earlier point, I wonder whether it was something that just flared up during this game, or if he has been playing through some discomfort recently and they’re taking the opportunity to try to get him rest for the remainder of the day because of the big early lead.
  12. Nothing yet, my first thought was he could be getting the rest of the day off due to the lead. Let's hope that's all it is and that it wasn't premature. While I’d love for that to be the case (versus the likely alternative), that would be a pretty gutsy move to make in the 2nd inning and Brett Anderson on the mound.
  13. Daniel Vogelbach is 2-for-5 with a walk against Daniel Ponce de Leon. The rest of the current Brewers hitters are a combined 1-for-31 with three walks against Ponce de Leon (all three walks were Yelich). Ponce de Leon only had two appearances last season where he went over 5.0 IP as a starter, and both were against the Brewers (6.0 IP each). Both outings against the Brewers came in the final couple weeks of the season last September. Aside from his performances against the Brewers, Ponce de Leon struggled as a starter last season. Hopefully the Brewers hitters begin to turn the tables on him this afternoon. One other interesting note, for his career Ponce de Leon actually has significant reverse splits (.545 OPS vs. LHH; .760 OPS vs. RHH) although that’s after just 499 plate appearances faced over his career to this point.

  15. I’ll remain terrified of his defense, but really glad to see how well Hiura has looked at the plate all day.
  16. Might be the first time in his career Daniel Vogelbach could be considered a defensive replacement.
  17. Somewhat similar to the Bill Buckner error in the World Series, although Buckner had much better fielding technique on his attempt.
  18. Just seeing him square up balls in the strike zone is a huge improvement over the first week of the season. I sort of hope they keep him 6th or lower in the order for awhile, it seems like he might be better suited to not have the added pressure of being one of the middle of the order bats right now.
  19. The biggest issue for Houser is his career .853 OPS against left handed hitters. He is well suited for a role where he can face predominantly RHHs, and you can control that better out of the bullpen especially coming into a game started by a LHP.
