  1. That’s great! I was wondering what was going on with his standings projections over the past few weeks as well.
  2. Baseball America has him listed as an 80 grade runner. MLB.com has him graded at 70 speed/run. Baseball Prospectus said he has plus-plus speed. Whichever unnamed evaluator claimed "average speed" for that article seems to at least be the outlier. He certainly looks a lot faster than average to me.
  3. From Eric Longenhagen's FanGraphs chat today. Question: Has Garrett Mitchell's strong ST impacted evaluations of him? And what level of the minors would you expect him to start at? Eric Longenhagen: "No change for me. He looks the same: Speed, big strength/power, a swing that doesn't produce in-game power."
  4. Back-to-back Wong and Urias home runs against Clayton Kershaw. So that’s fun.
  5. In the first inning a Jackie Bradley Jr. throw to home was a little up the 3B line and Tommy Pham collided with Manny Piña. Initially Piña appeared injured and laid on the ground for several seconds. It appeared that his left shoulder took the brunt of the collision. After meeting with the trainers Piña elected to remain in the game, which quite frankly was a bit surprising given the initial appearance of things. EDIT: Piña did come out of the game after the 1st inning.
  6. According to Adam McCalvy the lineup has changed with Christian Yelich being removed and is now the following: Wong 2B Hiura 1B Garcia RF Bradley Jr. CF Pina C Vogelbach DH Shaw 3B Arcia SS Taylor LF Apparently it’s non-injury related and just a late decision to give Yelich an additional day off.
  7. Houser left the game in the middle of a Dylan Moore at-bat in what appeared to be some sort of injury issue or precaution. He was walking off the field with an athletic trainer. He had fallen off the mound sideways on his last pitch. It looked like they were being overly cautious, so hopefully it’s nothing. EDIT: Brewers announce Houser left the game with right thumb discomfort.
  8. I know he’s been out for over a week so he certainly deserves plenty of slack, but so far Urias has swung at 6 pitches against LHP Yusei Kikuchi. Urias swung through and missed 4 pitches completely, fouled 1 pitch into the ground, and tried to check a swing resulting his second strikeout. For someone who was once considered to possess plus contact skills I am hoping he’s able to begin to show it this season.
  9. The Rays are playing Wander Franco at 3B today (a position he’s never previously played in professional baseball) and according to Marc Topkin they are also planning on getting him experience at 2B. I’m very curious to see if he gets added to the 40-man roster and called up at some point this season.
  10. Today’s game is available to anyone with an MLB.TV subscription. It’s a Mariners TV broadcast.
  11. From today's intersquad game... Adam McCalvy: Brent Suter is coming out of the Brewers' intrasquad game with an athletic trainer. He was struck by a sharp Garrett Mitchell comebacker. Will Sammon: Brent Suter walked off the mound during this intrasquad. Garrett Mitchell hit a line drive at him, and then Suter tumbled while trying to make a play on it. After the play, an athletic trainer was looking at Suter's arm EDIT... And now Corbin Burnes with a reported intersquad scare per McCalvy: Corbin Burnes took a tumble on an awkward 3-1 putout of Jackie Bradley Jr. in today's intrasquad game, but said he was fine. "Just testing out the durability of the knee over there. But yeah, I'm good." More Burnes on that scare: "They said maybe you can take it a little bit easier. I was just looking at Jackie running down the line so I just wanted to beat Jackie to first."
  12. I’m a little surprised that Robertson has yet to play a single inning at 3B in a Spring Training game. Maybe they just want to see his versatility at other positions, but I figured he’d get plenty of reps there this spring.
  13. I'm buying on the Freddy Peralta breakout season.
  14. For those interested in updates on where some of the college players projected as possible 1st round talents have fared so far this is a good read from FanGraphs: A Collection of Weekend Scouting Notes (3/9/2021)
  15. Both Hedbert Perez and Freddy Zamora made the trip today and may play. Travis Shaw home run in the 1st inning. Sounds like Hiura has had a rough 1st inning defensively (failed to scoop a Travis Shaw throw and on a successful pickoff for Brett Anderson he sailed the throw to second base). Edit: In the 2nd inning the Brewers radio broadcast made it sound like Hiura should've had a grounder that got by him under his glove, but it was ruled a double.
