  1. Per Jon Heyman: Brewers offered about the same $34M over 2 years for Justin Turner, and also made a 3-year bid with a somewhat lower annual salary. Also, Wisconsin tax is lower than California tax. So overall, good try.
  2. Fair enough, I'm sort of with you on that! Paxton spent a lot of years in the Mariners organization, so it isn't far fetched to assume he had a preference to go back there.
  3. Based on your posts over the past six months, I don't think anyone has bought into the 60-games in 2020 perfectly reflecting reality more than you have.
  4. By the way, the other great thing about baseball is the Dodgers won't officially announce the Turner signing until Wednesday because that's the day they can clear a 40-man roster spot by putting one of their injured pitchers on the 60-day IL.
  5. I mean he lives in Wisconsin, so he's literally already here!
  6. DAMN IT! 1 year, $8.5 million. I sure as heck hope he really wanted to pitch in Seattle, because if the Brewers weren't offering someone with his kind of talent more than that, shame on them. Spot on, that's really disappointing. That is a steal for Paxton. Is not being willing to pay anything for starting pitching an organizational philosophy? It seems like they are allergic to free agent pitchers.
  7. Hard pass on Odorizzi for me. Disaster waiting to happen. Paxton has the most upside and can probably be had on just a one-year deal, seems like an obvious target. Paxton makes the most sense to me as well. He could solidify the middle of the rotation, and still has some upside to be a true #2/#3 caliber pitcher. The guy lives in Eau Claire so it's not a stretch that he'd play for the team in the same state. Make it happen and lets get Spring Training underway.
  8. From Ken Rosenthal: Largest guarantee for a free-agent position player 36 or older in first year of deal since Victor Martinez’s four-year, $68M contract with Tigers in 2014. Potential value for Turner is $48M over three years if option is exercised, $52M if he hits escalators tied to MVP voting.
  9. The Brewers have fantastic pitching heading into 2021. If they can sign James Paxton or Taijuan Walker and move Hauser back to his long relief role they'll improve even more.
  10. You think the over/under is that the Dodgers will go 122-40 next season? I'll take the under.
  11. I am very curious to hear how involved the Brewers really were and what type of offer they made. It was Jon Heyman and Robert Murray back in January/February of 2018 that were saying the Brewers were being aggressive going after Yu Darvish. Then when he ultimately signed with the Cubs there was an indication that the Brewers were never really near the level of bidding that Darvish ended up commanding. Sort of curious if this is another similar case since the Brewers almost never allow news to leak about the free agent targets they end up signing.
  12. From Justin Turner’s Twitter account...
  13. Per Robert Murray... Justin Turner announced that he is re-signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
  14. Sorry to interrupt all of the important Urias (will he, won’t he) hit for power talk, but Ken Rosenthal indicated earlier this afternoon that the Brewers seem willing to go to three-years for Turner and the Dodgers most likely haven’t offered beyond two-years so far. From his article today: Turner, 36, is seeking at least a three-year contract. The Brewers, and perhaps another team or two, seem willing to give it to him. The Dodgers almost certainly prefer Turner for no more than two years, but have yet to fill his position at third base or replace his right-handed power, effectively leaving the light on for him to return.
  15. If you’re referring to Urias he had 164 minor league “extra base hits”.
  16. No team in baseball has had less production from the shortstop position over the past five years than the Brewers. I don’t think trying Urias at the position is going to make them any worse off than they’ve been for several years now.
  17. Rich Hill reportedly signing with Rays pending a physical.
  18. For those of us that follow the minor league action it will be nice not to have so many of the Triple-A games starting nearly as late. Here is the finalized affiliate map for the minor league reorganization:
  19. The fact that the Brewers are publicly out there as a suitor actually makes me even less optimistic than I was before (which wasn't much to begin with). The Brewers never operate in the public eye. Every time they sign a player of any magnitude, it almost always comes as a complete surprise. This tweet makes me think that Turner is simply trying to squeeze a few more nickels, or an option year, out of the Dodgers. I'd be extremely surprised if this happens. Yeah, maybe similar to the Darvish rumors from a couple of years ago... BUT my galaxy-brain tells me maybe the reason Murray’s Brewers source told him it’s “unlikely he leaves LA” is to try to downplay it because their interest leaked. I hope this ends soon, I’ve done an unhealthy amount of psychoanalysis over the past week with very little actual details.
  20. From Robert Murray: Brewers’ multi-year offer to Turner is said to be competitive. The Dodgers remain the favorite, and one source believes it is “unlikely” he leaves LA, but the Brewers are hopeful.
  21. My complete guess is the Brewers have offered a two-year deal with a third year mutual option that carries a buyout.
  22. From Jon Heyman: Star 3B Justin Turner has multiyear offers from at least the incumbent champion Dodgers and the Brewers. His hometown Dodgers are naturally seen as the favorite but Milwaukee is said hopeful. Mets, Jays and Braves are among others linked to JT but seem less likely for now.
  23. I have bad news. If I am reading this correctly, the Dodgers can indeed place their two pitchers that underwent Tommy John surgery last fall, Tommy Kahnle and Caleb Ferguson, on the 60-day IL starting on February 17th (the first day that pitchers and catchers report). Source on IL details: A player cannot be placed on the MLB 60-day Injured List after the conclusion of the MLB regular season, and during the post-season and off-season, up until the start of Spring Training (beginning on the date that pitchers & catchers are scheduled to report). A minor league player can be placed on a minor league club's 60-day Injured List only during his minor league club's regular season.
  24. The Dodgers just pulled off another trade shipping out Dylan Florio to the Marlins for Alex Vesia and a prospect. Both Florio and Vesia were on their respective 40-man rosters, so the Dodgers roster continues to remain full for the time being.
  25. They freed up a spot losing Kolarak, but then they filled it with Neuse so their net gain was zero. Still have a full 40-man roster.
