  1. I would be ecstatic to see the Brewers sign Turner, but I just can’t fully wrap my head around him not re-signing in Los Angeles at this stage of his career. I thought maybe there was a small chance the Dodgers would make a run at Arenado or Bryant, but obviously that boat just took on water. I can’t bring myself to get my hopes up for this possibility as much as I want to.
  2. Nice lol. Just Imagine a FA signing okay! Games like MLB the Show and OOTP are perfect for Brewers fans. You can acquire top players, win a simulated World Series, and thoroughly daydream about what it’d be like to root for a team that does those things in real-life.
  3. There are years where I can get behind a mini rebuild, but this year’s team is projected to have maybe the best pitching staff they’ve had in a decade. When you take both starters and bullpen into consideration, this could be a top 5 collection of pitchers in baseball. They need to find a couple of quality bats and make a run at this thing, in my opinion. At this point a trade or two is probably their best bet.
  4. None of the players traded were among Baseball America’s Top 10 Cardinals prospects.
  5. So how much will the Cardinals have to pay him? This is so damn depressing. I believe he was owed $199 million over the next six seasons, so assuming the $50 million reports are correct they would be on the hook for around $150 million. I thought he had an opt out clause in a couple of years as well, but not sure if that’s still the case.
  6. Well here’s hoping Arenado’s home/road splits are a real thing and he’s going to be an expensive “average” offensive player for the Cardinals, because if not they just added an elite bat to their lineup without giving up much talent in return.
  7. So the Cardinals gave up little in prospect capital and got the Rockies to pay $50 million of Arenado’s salary.
  8. Per Ken Rosenthal... BREAKING: Cardinals have agreed to acquire Nolan Arenado from Rockies, sources tell The Athletic. Deal pending approval from both MLB and players’ union; Rockies sending Cardinals significant cash, believed to be in $50M range, and Arenado will be deferring money.
  9. Seems like one of the teams the Brewers are competing with for adding “another bat” is the Braves. The Braves have at least checked in with the Orioles on Trey Mancini per reports earlier this week. Mancini is now reportedly healthy and has defensive flexibility since he is able to play corner outfield and first base. I hope the Brewers have checked in on the Mancini trade market, especially since Orioles GM Mike Elias used to work with Stearns in Houston (Elias was promoted to Stearns’ vacated position as Asst. GM of the Astros in 2016).
  10. This one stings a little. I had started to get into the idea of adding Rosario to the mix.
  11. The Blue Jays need more decent pitching in the worst way. I wonder if they'd be interested in a Josh Hader and Adrian Houser combo package. Houser would be a great middle inning relief option to use following starts by LHPs like Ryu, Ray, and Matz. If the report that the Brewers want both major league players and prospects in return for Hader, then the Blue Jays would seem to have both potentially available. Maybe someone like Lourdes Gurriel Jr. or Rowdy Tellez would fit as a major league piece? Then add in some of the Blue Jays prospects.
  12. Cron does look like a nice fit for 1B, especially against lefties, but he would only play 1B and if Vogelbach continues to mash righties, he'd only be a part time player, at which point you would have two guys that can only play first taking up roster spots. I can definitely see the appeal of someone like Rosario who could play first against lefties and then also cover outfield positions against righties. It would open up a ton of flexibility. And if 1st base doesn't work out, hopefully they have a Gyorko/Cabrera-type signing as well that will act as insurance. Agreed, this is a much more eloquent and nuanced way to explain it than I did.
  13. The biggest issue with Cron is you can't afford to have two dudes that can only play 1B, especially if there isn't a DH. If you sign Cron then you probably need to say goodbye to Vogelbach.
  14. Pederson has a career .663 slugging and 1.034 OPS in 26 games against the Brewers. Schwarber on the other hand had a career .441 slugging and .758 OPS in 73 career games against the Brewers.
  15. I would be surprised if the Brewers are asking Rosario to be a full-time 1B. My guess is they asked if we was open to attempting to play some 1B. I think he'd still log plenty of innings in the outfield.
  16. I'm not a scout and this was a long time ago so I'm not sure how much this adds to the conversation, but I got a chance to see Rosario play a few games at 2B (granted he was just 20 years old at the time). He looked like the best and most athletic infielder on the diamond every time I saw him play. At the time he was a far better defender than teammate Miguel Sano. I am hopeful that he would be an adequate first baseman defensively, but would prefer it was more of a rotation getting him innings in the outfield also as MrAllen suggests.
  17. Jon Becker does have a fairly well established record on Twitter, I don't think he's pulling things out of mid-air. Here's his Tweet: Source: Eddie Rosario is expected to sign in the coming days, perhaps as soon as today. The Brewers' interest is predicated on Rosario playing 1B, with the Dodgers and Atlanta also interested in the lefty OF. The Giants are no longer believed to be in the running. And his follow-up Tweet: Cleveland is also interested in Rosario, source says.
  18. I still think the Rays would be a realistic trade partner. They have an over abundance of infielders and I believe guys like Wendle or Brosseau or Diaz could be had at a decent price. Brosseau would be a fantastic trade target if the Rays would engage in discussion, I think he’s got a continued breakout in front of him.
  19. Pederson’s contract is one-year for $7 million according to Jeff Passan.
  20. Peterson’s .501 career slugging versus righties should play well in a division where not a single team has more than one projected LHP starter.
  21. MrAllen, thanks for the information provided. Are there any realistic trade options for the corner infield spots that have performed better than those free agent options? Thinking along the lines of guys like Mark Canha or the switch-hitting Eduardo Escobar (Dbacks would have to eat some money for it to make sense).
  22. Had reportedly been a potential Brewers target at one point this offseason. Per Ken Rosenthal: Free-agent outfielder Joc Pederson in agreement with Cubs, pending physical, sources tell The Athletic.
  23. Rosenthal’s article is sort of all over the place in terms of how likely this move is to happening. Here’s an excerpt from the article: The Cardinals are in discussions with the Rockies about a deal that would bring the five-time All-Star third baseman to St. Louis, according to major-league sources. No deal appears close, and the other players who might be involved are not known. Arenado, 29, likely would waive his no-trade clause to join the Cardinals, and perhaps agree to push back his right to opt out after the 2021 season. The Rockies, to escape his $199 million guarantee over the next six seasons, almost certainly would absorb at least one high-priced veteran from the Cardinals while also receiving prospects in the deal. League sources offered varied assessments of where the talks stood Thursday night. One cautioned that a trade might not happen at all, but others believe the Rockies are motivated to move Arenado and the Cardinals are motivated to acquire him. The Braves also checked in on Arenado but made no progress toward a deal, a source said.
  24. Prospects Live Mock Draft 2.0 For the Brewers at #15... Eric Cerantola RHP, Mississippi State Milwaukee and data go hand-in-hand, and Cerantola would be an excellent fit in their rebuilding of the farm system. The reports on Cerantola this fall have been amazing, with a fastball touching 98 MPH and the hammer curveball in the low-80's reaching spin rates near 3,300rpms. He's also got a change-up that flashes plus, providing potentially the loudest arsenal in the 2021 class if it all clicks. Cerantola has struggled with control and command during his Mississippi State career, but if that takes a step forward in the spring, he's destined to go early. Also, Baseball America released their 2021 MLB Draft Stock Watch For The Top 30 Prospects. It isn’t a Mock Draft, but it has a write-up on their top 30 draft prospects for this year. The previously mentioned Cerantola didn’t make their top 30 list. Here is the prospect that they listed at #15: Richard Fitts RHP, Auburn Areas To Improve: Maintain stuff in starter’s role, improve control, develop changeup, start full season One of the biggest risers from the fall, Fitts wowed evaluators with a big-time fastball, plus slider and—like many Auburn arms—a changeup with split action. If he can maintain the stuff he showed last fall in a starter’s role this spring, he should be off the board within the first 20 picks. Improving his command and making strides with his changeup would also help him answer starter/reliever questions, and with just six collegiate starts on his resume, starting a full season will be key.
  25. In case anyone wants to follow the entire listing be released tonight.. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-top-100-prospects-list-for-2021 Quite a bit different overall from the Keith Law list. Looks like just three Indians made this MLB Pipeline top 100 list, Nolan Jones (#36), Triston McKenzie (#51), SS Tyler Freeman (#98).
