  1. Yelich is going to be an OBP monster this year. Having him in the lineup makes a significant difference for this team.

Jhoulys Chacin ® P[/pre] For those unfamiliar with Marlins starting pitcher Trevor Richards here is a must read article about his time spent working at MillerCoors Brewery in Milwaukee last year: In one year, this Marlins pitcher went from working at MillerCoors to pitching at Miller Park. Richards has made an improbable rise from Indy ball to MLB.
  3. It’s only 30 plate appearances so far, but Jesus Aguilar is in the top 20 among all MLB hitters in xwOBA this season. He had a .446 xwOBA coming into tonight and has tacked on two doubles.
  4. At least part of the problem is the Brewers haven’t had some of the fun new added elements together thus far. Yelich has started just 7 games coming into tonight and the Brewers are 5-2 in those games (granted those were against mostly bad teams). I think it will get better.
  5. This reminds me, I just recently realized the Brewers organization is currently in the midst of their 50th season of baseball (if you count the one year in Seattle). I assume they won’t actually celebrate for a couple of years (2020) until their “50th Anniversary” of being in Milwaukee, which will be during their 51st season in Milwaukee.
  6. I am genuinely rooting for Brinson to do well with Miami, but it would be nice if it wasn’t during this 4-game series. Hopefully his first at-bat will prove an outlier for this weekend.
  7. Right...omg. Pray for us in this deal. I was also thinking the same thing. He was walking back to the dugout and I was wondering if he was going to be able to hobble back or not. At this point I’ve assumed the animated grimace is just his thing. He has been making that expression all season, I can’t imagine he is actually in constant pain and they would continue to play him.
  8. I assume it was NOT by design, because with both Shaw and Aguilar batting and one out it would be a really strange decision to do that on purpose.

  10. Brewers out hit Reds 8-to-3. Thames 2-run home run is the difference. A 2-0 final. Reminds me of the wisdom of the great Yogi Berra...
  11. I think Freddy Peralta will have some immediate success at the MLB level. With his delivery and release point he strikes me as the type of pitcher that MLB hitters will struggle with early on when they haven’t faced him before. If his control continues to improve he could be a viable rotation addition. Most previous reports have had Peralta’s fastball in the 89-92 mph range, but I noticed that Pitch f/x recorded him topping 94-mph in a Spring outing (granted a one inning appearance). I am excited to see Peralta eventually get a chance in the MLB rotation.
  12. Today’s game is broadcast on MLB Network for those who are out-of-market, and on Fox Sports Wisconsin for locals. [pre]Reds Lineup Brewers Lineup 1. Jesse Winker (L) RF 1. Eric Thames (L) 1B 2. 13. AUDIO via the MLB.com Statcast Podcast: Statcast host Mike Petriello and national editor Matt Meyers discuss how amazing Josh Hader has been this year beginning at the 11:00-minute mark. This is the Tuesday 4/17/18 podcast, all of their podcasts links can be found at the MLB.com Statcast Podcast website. *** AUDIO via the Effectively Wild Podcast, Episode 1204: Ben Lindbergh, Jeff Sullivan, and Baseball Prospectus writer Russell Carleton discuss Russell’s new book, The Shift. At the 43:00-minute mark they do a stat blast segment in which Carleton shares a story where he compares Bartolo Colon’s unlikely outing on Sunday to his father taking him to an Indians game on May 28, 1988 when they faced the Brewers and journeyman pitcher Odell Jones. Jones was starting in place of Teddy Higuera who had been scratched from the start, and proceeded to pitch a perfect game into the 8th inning. Here is a short Article Link on that very game. All of the Effectively Wild Podcast links can be found on Fangraphs.
  14. So which has been worse tonight, the Brewers pitching or hitting?
  15. Oliver Drake’s motion reminds me of a pitching machine at a commercial batting cage.
  16. I don’t know if the Reds had this many hits all season.
  17. I think Freddy Peralta has the best chance of the three to have immediate success. I think he is the kind of pitcher that MLB hitters will struggle with, especially early on when they haven’t faced him before. If his control is indeed improving he could be an important mid-to-late season rotation add. Also of interest, most previous reports have had his fastball in the 89-92 mph range, but I noticed that Pitch f/x recorded him topping 94-mph in a Spring outing (granted a one inning appearance). I am excited to see Peralta get a chance in an MLB rotation.
  18. Eric Sogard isn’t a great pinch hit option, IMO. Edit: Yes I know they are short on options.
  19. This would be a good time to capitalize offensively.
  20. Did you see his swing on strike 2 of that at bat? It was even worse.

  22. The Texas Rangers claimed recently turned 24-year old 3B/1B prospect Renato Núñez off waivers from the A’s (he’s out of options). While Núñez has certainly struggled at the MLB level, he has some serious power potential. Oakland appears set at the infield corners for the foreseeable future, but losing him for nothing could come back to haunt them.
  23. Green light 3-0 for Aguilar here? Edit: I like my chances with him swinging the bat. Edit #2: Darn.
