  1. AUDIO via the Effectively Wild Podcast: Ben Lindbergh and Jeff Sullivan banter about Freddy Peralta’s unique Coors Field debut (first six minutes of show).
  2. I didn't know that was possible either. Maybe less amusing, but his Fangraphs total WAR is 0.4 after just 5.2 IP. That ranks him as already the 5th highest WAR total among Brewers pitchers this season and 10th highest WAR total among all Brewers players (source: Fangraphs WAR leaderboards).

  4. The Brewers are now 25-9 in games in which the offensive crosses home plate at least one or more times... that’s reason for optimism, right?!
  5. I am a big believer in Taylor Williams developing into a very valuable piece in this bullpen by season’s end.
  6. I think it’s still too early for the Cubs to be overly concerned about their rotation, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t at least enjoy seeing some doubt starting to set in...
  7. Any bets on which (if any) Brewers reliever will use the Diamondbacks bullpen cart during this series? I don’t believe any Diamondbacks relievers have used the bullpen cart this year, but a couple of visiting team relievers have used it recently. Edit: Here is the Article Link of Sean Doolittle using the bullpen cart.
  8. Not that I ever want to see Yelich out of the lineup, but having the flexibility to use him as a late inning LH hitter off the bench in a big situation isn't awful either.
  9. The Astros lead all of baseball with a +88 Run Differential (the next closest is the Red Sox at +67), but they only have two more wins than the Brewers who have a +1 Run Differential (runs scored minus runs allowed) following this Rockies series.
  10. Not sure why the readings are so different, but BrooksBaseball.net’s PITCHf/x page for Freddy Peralta says he topped 96-mph on 4 occasions today. Below is his the chart of his velocity by pitch. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/cache/speed.php-pitchSel=642547&game=gid_2018_05_13_milmlb_colmlb_1&batterX=&innings=yyyyyyyyy&sp_type=1&s_type=&league=mlb&pnf=&zlpo=&cache=1.gif
  11. I agree with this verbatim. I love Peralta’s mound presence and I am really happy for him to have such an outstanding debut. I think for sustained success as an MLB starter he is going to need to continue to develop and use his other pitches. It is hard to blame him for not trusting the slider in Colorado though. It is nice to have a Brewers starting pitcher that will be must-see TV in the near term.
  12. Nice Adam McCalvy tweet here. Peralta had 18 swinging strikes on his four-seam fastball, the most of any MLB pitcher this season not named James Paxton (who throws his fastball in the high 90s). Peralta threw 90 fastballs total, which ranged from 86.8-mph to 94.8-mph.

  15. Counsell’s press conference answer about the 8th inning being the right set of hitters for Corey Knebel to face tonight gives me hope that the save is going to be rendered meaningless for the Brewers this year. In my opinion that is a freeing mindset allowing for a bullpen to operate with optimal matchup probability as the priority at all times.
  16. I like the idea of a nickname for this year’s stellar bullpen, what are some good ideas/options that haven’t been claimed previously?
  17. The Brewers have 12 hits through 4.2 innings. That seems incredible given the recent struggles.
  18. Well Braun also never touched first base, so I guess it’s a wash.
  19. I thought Marquez just had absolutely terrible command, [sarcasm]but I guess as it turns out it is actually the grounds crew’s fault.[/sarcasm]
