  2. With the College World Series starting today I am creating a thread for any discussion or notes surrounding the event over the next 11 days. There are a few Brewers draft picks participating in the CWS along with some top prospects for next year's draft as well. I will update the SCHEDULE in this first post as the College World Series progresses. College World Series June 13-23/24 TD Ameritrade Park • Omaha (All Times Central) Bracket One: Arkansas, Virginia, Florida, Miami Bracket Two: LSU, TCU, Vanderbilt, Cal State Fullerton Saturday, June 13: Bracket One Game 1: Virginia 5, Arkansas 3 Game 2: Florida 15, Miami 3 Sunday, June 14: Bracket Two Game 3: TCU 10, LSU 3 Monday, June 15: Bracket One Game 4: Vanderbilt 4, Cal State Fullerton 3 Game 5: Miami 4, Arkansas 3 (Arkansas eliminated) Game 6: Virginia 1, Florida 0 Tuesday, June 16: Bracket Two Game 7: LSU 5, Cal State Fullerton 3 (Cal State Fullerton eliminated) Game 8: Vanderbilt 1, TCU 0 Wednesday, June 17: Bracket One Game 9: Florida 10, Miami 2 (Miami eliminated) Thursday, June 18: Bracket Two Game 10: TCU 8, LSU 4 Friday, June 19: Bracket Championships Game 11: Florida 10, Virginia 5 Game 12: Vanderbilt 7, TCU 1 (TCU eliminated) Saturday, June 20: Bracket Championships Game 13: Virginia 5, Florida 4 (Florida eliminated) Monday, June 22: Finals Game One Vanderbilt 5, Virginia 1 Tuesday, June 23: Finals Game Two Virginia 3, Vanderbilt 0 Wednesday, June 24: Finals Game Three Vanderbilt vs. Virginia, 7 p.m. (ESPN)
  3. If the trade only involves Ramirez, I would prefer taking a chance on a young lottery ticket such as 18-year old Venezuelan catcher Ali Sanchez.
  4. Top 3 probably in this order for me, but I would be ecstatic if they figured out a way to sign any of them... 1) Tristan Beck 2) Justin Hooper 3) Donny Everett
  5. If they were willing to pay the 75% tax, the Brewers could spend up to an additional $387,205 without losing a future pick.
  6. I am actually curious if any team with deep pockets has ever considered trying this? Signing 10-12 "unsignable" guys would seem to be more valuable than two first round picks.
  7. The penalties are harsh, but if you were willing to pay a whole lot of tax and lose first round picks for a couple of years you could sign them all for their asking price. Here are the penalties...
  8. Great question. Add Tristan Beck to the mix as well.
  9. It is funny, I thought the Brewers were in the perfect draft position to take Allard and Herbert, and the Braves beat them to it one pick ahead on each.
  10. I guess we will never know if the Brewers would have taken him, but I was hoping Chris Betts would fall three more picks.
  11. Seems like good value at the #40 pick. Hope his injury is indeed a lat strain, and not a significant tear.
  12. Forgot about Donny Everett still being available.
  13. Lots of intriguing options still on the board... Betts, Ponce, Matuella, Kirby, Dewees
  14. I agree with you that is typically the case, but that isn't necessarily true if the guy comes back with elite stuff and a solid senior year (see Mark Appel). Regardless, I do think he probably signs with Dodgers.
  15. The Royals going in hard on the Indianapolis-area beat tonight.
  16. I would be thrilled to get Funkhouser at 40 though. Wondering if he will consider going back to school though? Scott Boras isn't one to back down even when things aren't looking all that rosy. Pre-draft articles had quotes from Funkhouser saying he still expected to go in the top ten tonight. EDIT: Or maybe he has a deal with the D-backs, Astros, or Braves.
  17. From Kiley McDaniel in his Fangraphs chat...
  18. Then you let him go at #43 to the D-backs.
  19. The Rockies have to feel pretty good about their draft tonight. I liked Nikorak, but I still think he seemed too hittable for a guy throwing as hard as he does. I am interested to see how he develops as a pro.
  20. Montgomery had selected pitchers with 6 out of his 7 first round (and first round supplemental) picks coming into tonight. Seems a pitcher is probable with the next selection, should be some decent ones still on the board.
  21. I'll take it! Would be a fun outfield: LF Clark CF Harrison RF Coulter Wait, what about Reed?! [sarcasm]Going to need to trade someone![/sarcasm]
  22. Kiley McDaniel put a Hunter Pence comp on Trenton Clark. Seem similar in at least the fact the swing is somewhat unorthodox and he reportedly hits everything in sight.
  23. The little bit I watched of him I wasn't all that enamored, but I guess I need to see more to get a feel for him.
