  1. LINK: Mississippi high schooler Austin Riley had a pre-draft work out in Milwaukee. The 3B/RHP is rated as Baseball America's 164th prospect on the BA 500.
  2. A come from behind walk-off win in the 14th inning for the Shuckers! What a perfect start to baseball in Biloxi.
  3. Not 1st round speculation, but thought this John Sickels ARTICLE on draft eligible college third baseman was worth sharing. The capsules on each player includes stats, scouting, and estimated draft round. Seems the Brewers would be likely candidates to take a guy or two from this group. The prize of the group, although he may not stick at 3B, is Miami's David Thompson.
  4. I would predict the Braves at either #28 or #41, they will likely be in a position to go over-slot for Hayes if necessary.
  5. Gomez has to be one of the fastest terrible base runners of all-time. Above average speed with well below average base running instincts.
  6. Brewers pick (actual pick): Chris Betts, C, Wilson HS (Cal.) Brewers pick (actual pick - mulligan version): Garrett Whitley, OF, Niskayuna HS (N.Y.) Brewers pick (your pick): Kolby Allard, LHP, San Clemente HS (Cal.) 1-1 ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS: Dansby Swanson, SS, Vanderbilt 1-2 HOUSTON ASTROS: Alex Bregman, SS, Louisiana State 1-3 COLORADO ROCKIES: Tyler Jay, LHP, Illinois 1-4 TEXAS RANGERS: Brendan Rodgers, SS, Lake Mary HS (Fla.) 1-5 HOUSTON ASTROS: Kyle Tucker, OF, Plant HS (Fla.) 1-6 MINNESOTA TWINS: Daz Cameron, OF, Eagle’s Landing Christian School (Ga.) 1-7 BOSTON RED SOX: Andrew Benintendi, OF, Arkansas 1-8 CHICAGO WHITE SOX: Carson Fulmer, RHP, Vanderbilt 1-9 CHICAGO CUBS: Dillon Tate, RHP, UC Santa Barbara 1-10 PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES: Tyler Stephenson, C, Kennesaw Mountain HS (Ga.) 1-11 CINCINNATI REDS: Ian Happ, OF/2B, Cincinnati 1-12 MIAMI MARLINS: Trenton Clark, OF, Richland HS (Texas) 1-13 TAMPA BAY RAYS: Jon Harris, RHP, Missouri State 1-14 ATLANTA BRAVES: Brady Aiken, LHP, IMG Academy 1-15 MILWAUKEE BREWERS: Chris Betts, C, Wilson HS (Cal.)
  7. Jon Harris final line: 5.2 IP, 9 H, 8 ER, 1 BB, 3 K Really tough start to have three days before the draft, he has been consistently projected to go in the top half of the first round. Interested to see if the bad start raises enough questions to drop him somewhere towards the middle to back of the 1st round.
  8. MLB Mock Draft 2015: Version 5.0 June 5, 2015 by John Manuel I am not convinced Funkhouser is necessarily a low-risk play as seems to be insinuated here. He reportedly has command issues, his performance declined late in the season, he may have some sort of injury but isn't sharing his medicals with teams, and he is a Scott Boras client. Combine all that with the fact that the two biggest factors that derail the careers of talented young pitchers are injuries and command issues, and I think it could be argued that Funkhouser may very well be a risky selection.
  9. I'm not really sure why, though. Ray Montgomery doesn't usually go with conservative picks. Perhaps it's because he thinks a quick to the majors guy will speed up the rebuilding process? Baseball America's John Manuel agrees with Callis in today's BA Mock 5.0 by stating, "After last year’s high-risk draft, Milwaukee will go more conservative on the college tip. They’re tied closely to college righties such as Louisville’s Kyle Funkhouser and Cal Poly Pomona’s Cody Ponce."
  10. TWEET: Per Ken Rosenthal TWEET: Additional information from Rosenthal regarding the return.
  11. LINK: North Carolina high school outfielder and UNC Wilmington commit Eric "E.J." Jenkins mentions Brewers among teams showing the most interest in him. He is currently rated Baseball America's #42 overall draft prospect on the BA 500.
  12. TWEET: Minnesota high school pitcher and Oklahoma commit Jake Irvin was also among those at Tuesday's pre-draft workout at Miller Park.
  13. Video captured of a Miller Park home run off the bat of high school prospect Chris Betts via this TWEET. EDIT: So the original tweet from @LesLukach, which was retweeted by Betts himself, has since been deleted. Regardless, the video link still works.
  14. Apparently University of Washington Outfielder Braden Bishop worked out with the Brewers at Miller Park today per this TWEET (with picture) posted by his father. As an aside, also came across this Seattle Times ARTICLE about Braden dealing with his mother's diagnoses of Alzheimer's.
  15. A little more information in this article LINK.
  16. With one week left until the draft, I am curious what players others are favoring at this point? So pretend you get to set the Brewers draft board next Monday. Lets assume for the purposes of the exercise we knew these eleven guys (not necessarily in this order) were going to be off the board with the first eleven picks of the draft: Dansby Swanson Brendan Rodgers Tyler Jay Dillon Tate Alex Bregman Daz Cameron Kyle Tucker Carson Fulmer Andrew Benintendi Trenton Clark Tyler Stephenson So if you know those eleven players are gone, what would be your top four remaining players, and in what order? Worst case scenario you would get one of your top four guys, so who are they? My Brewers Draft Board right now would be: 1) Kolby Allard 2) Garrett Whitley 3) Brady Aiken (assuming the medicals weren't completely discouraging) 4) Still TBD I like Mike Nikorak for the fourth spot, but I'm slightly concerned with reports that he regressed a little during the season (not that unusual for a high school pitcher). I also think the baseball appears easier to pick up out of his hand than some of his counterparts. Last thing going against Nikorak is that some quality RHP's are projected to likely still be available at the #40 pick.
  17. The Tigers for me. Ever since the Brewers moved to the NL, the AL team I have continued to follow most closely is the Tigers. Comerica is also the only place I have attended an opening day at outside of Miller Park. I have a soft spot for the Tigers, and I think the Michigan-Wisconsin rivalry is a little underrated as well. My back-up team would be the Dodgers for no other reason than maybe Uecker and Vin Scully could just join forces for some great radio/TV dialogue.
  18. I am starting to come around to the idea that Aiken, or even Allard due to his less severe injury diagnosis, would provide the best chance at adding a legitimate top of the rotation arm to the system. The biggest problem is we don't have access to the medical information and data that the teams have access to, so its hard to know exactly how much concern they should have over his injury and his future health risks. Maybe it is worth the risk if the team believes there are very few impact players in this year's first round. You mention the BA staff, I also heard them comparing this draft to the 2000 draft, which certainly wasn't a compliment. Even at small odds for success, I agree that a risk on Aiken might be better than a guy destined for the bullpen or a role as a #4/5 starter, which does seem to describe a lot of the arms in this year's draft.
  19. Medeiros reportedly sat 88-91 MPH in his May 23rd outing, scroll down on this LINK for video and brief synopsis. Also, I believe the Crew07 mentioned in the Link Report that during Kodi's last start on May 28th Chris Mehring stated that he was working primarily in the upper 80's with his fastball during his 7 inning outing.
  20. Michael Reed with a four hit night including a triple, homerun, and four RBI. He has had one heck of a hot start this season. He is also looking like a candidate to break up some of the dark clouds that hang over the 2011 Brewers draft class.
  21. When the pitching coach came out to talk to him in 7th inning tonight, the announcers made reference to Funkhouser being "an emotional player". I am not familiar enough with Funkhouser to know the exact context, but if by "emotional" he was alluding to a reputation for displaying a temper or showing outward signs of frustration, then that can't be great for a players draft stock either. Either way, count me in the group that hopes the Brewers steer clear of Funkhouser.
  22. Splitter, I would be content with some of the other guys you mentioned (Stevenson, Harris, Happ), but they weren't available in that particular mock. I agree with you that I don't think there is any chance Harris falls to #15. Going back to the mock, a couple of other parts of the article that are worth highlighting...
  23. I try to resist the temptation to link every mock draft that comes up, but this Fangraphs Mock Draft (v2.0) is especially useful because it includes video links to all of the prospects listed. If that is how the draft actually plays out, I will be a little disappointed. If Kolby Allard, Mike Nikorak, and Garrett Whitley are all available at #15, I really hope they take one of them. I would be ecstatic if the Brewers some how ended up with both San Clemente kids, Allard and his Catcher, Lucas Herbert, with their first couple of selections.
  24. For those who want to become better acquainted with the 2016 MLB Draft class Kiley McDaniel did a nice (way too early) ranking list along with brief descriptions of next year's top draft prospects in this Fangraphs article, 2016/2017 MLB Draft Rankings: Ridiculously Early Edition
  25. The Shuckers long road-trip has officially been extended: No 'Play Ball' on June 6th for MGM Park
