Lauer has looked very poised tonight. Having Lauer become a solid mid-rotation starter along with the emergence of Ashby as a starter with great stuff (and even the possibility of Ethan Small as an eventual backend starter) could give the Brewers a really nice collection of left-handed starters in the coming years.

It really looks like the Phillies have a horrendous bullpen, just terrible. The Brewers are trending downward this past weekend. Yeah, because in baseball you can definitely tell everything you need to know about a team from their last few innings.
If you need a reason to stay optimistic today, the Phillies bullpen has a 4.47 ERA this season. The only worse bullpens among NL teams have been the Pirates (4.63 ERA), Nationals (4.87 ERA), Rockies (5.07 ERA), Reds (5.19 ERA), and D-backs (5.30 ERA).
Well a disappointing start so far, but at least Wheeler has thrown 50 pitches through 3 inning and Phillies bullpen isn’t great. This feels a little like a similar blueprint of the 4 games the Brewers played in Philadelphia. They got down big early and then did damage against the Phils bullpen. Hopefully this time around the comeback efforts don’t come up just short like the earlier series.
He’s given up 0 earned runs in 4 of his last 5 outings coming into today and has a 3.23 ERA since the start of June. This seems more like a self-fulfilling prophecy than anything.
Zack Wheeler seemed nearly untouchable through much of the first half of the season, but has been touched up much more often in the second half. Wheeler since July 7th: 4.59 ERA, 68.2 IP, 65 H, 35 ER, 15 BB, 69 K, 8 HR

Sort of funny that just a couple of weeks ago there was much consternation over the Reds remaining easy schedule, and today the Reds fans were celebrating the Brewers comeback victory that kept the Cardinals at an arms length in the wild card race.
