  1. So let me get this straight, the Cardinals traded Lane Thomas for two months of Jon Lester… on purpose?!
  2. Wong is incredible… and there is something extra special about it knowing how much it has bothered some Cardinals fans. I also saw that he has 7 career home runs to leadoff a game, and 5 of those have been this season.
  3. They have had 8 base runners (5 hits, 3 walks) through the first 11 outs so far, it seems like it’s been some bad luck sequences more than sucking.
  4. Via Adam McCalvy: Hunter Strickland since coming to the Brewers from the Angels: 1.25 ERA, 22 strikeouts in 21 2/3 innings, 26.8 percent strikeout rate, 0.78 WHIP.
  5. Have to admit, I doubted the likelihood of success with bullpen acquisitions like Boxberger, and more recently Strickland, but they have both proven me wrong by being consistently solid nearly every time out.
  6. Excited to see Yelich show some continuing signs in the right direction. Crew left some runs out there that inning, unfortunately.
  7. Brewers moves today… RHP Adrian Houser reinstated from the injured list. LHP Aaron Ashby recalled from Triple-A Nashville. RHP Miguel Sánchez and RHP Eric Yardley optioned to Nashville. 1B Daniel Vogelbach transferred to the 60-day injured list.
  8. Today’s Nationals starter, LHP Sean Nolin was originally drafted by the Brewers in the 50th round of the 2008 draft (but not signed). He did sign a free agent contract with the Brewers back in 2016, but underwent Tommy John surgery that season. Despite being in the Brewers organization for both the 2016 and 2017 seasons, he never threw a pitch in a minor league game for the Brewers. Prior to this season Nolin hadn’t appeared in a major league game since 2015. His only other appearance this season was a start on August 12th versus the Mets in which he last 3.0 IP while allowing 8 hits, 4 runs, 0 walks, with 2 strikeouts. He threw 51 pitches in that outing. At Triple-A this season he’s thrown 47.1 IP with a 3.80 ERA, 1.289 WHIP, and a K/9 rate of 9.9.

  10. Yesterday was the first time I finally let my Yelich frustration out on the board, and now I wish I would’ve waited one more day.

  12. I guess that would really depend on what you deem “high leverage.” Coming into tonight he had pitched 18 innings and allowed just 6 hits and 0 runs. Maybe he isn’t going to be your closer, but I think you trust that guy to be able to hold a lead or small deficit more often than not. He hasn’t been completely sharp the last couple of outings, but he’s certainly earned some leash at this point.
  13. I think [hopefully] everyone here is rooting for Yelich. BA prefaced his at bat with “Yelich has been looking for a signature moment all season.” Obviously it’s no secret he’s really struggling [from what he’s accomplished previously]. It’s tough watching him not meet his expectations, and I feel bad for him as much as anything. It’s a fun team, and it would be good to see him be a meaningful part of that success over the next two months.
  14. His changeup has been very effective the past two seasons.
  15. Well the robot umps definitely would’ve rung up Thomas on that one. That’s a shame.
  16. Well Norris has gone consecutive appearances without allowing a hit or run. That’s progress at least.
  17. Corey Ray time? He suffered a leg injury a couple of days ago and hasn't played since. David Dahl did just hit a home run for Nashville a few minutes ago. I don’t think it’s likely we’ll see him on the major league team this year, but stranger things have happened [like Ryon Healy coming out of the shadows to bat cleanup in a playoff game last season].
  18. Corey Ray time? Is David Dahl healthy? [that’s probably a perpetual no] In all seriousness, I wouldn’t hate seeing Corey Ray get a chance.
  19. I assume the Tyrone Taylor oblique injury means we won’t see him again until some point in September.
  20. Never mind, I just rewound it and watched what they showed of Colbert. I forgot about his segments from last year about Milwaukee.
  21. Just tuning into the TV broadcast, have they said anything about the Colbert skits? Sounds like Brett Anderson and other players were upset he was delaying play earlier. From Todd Rosiak: A two-out, two-RBI triple to RF by Lane Thomas gives Washington a 2-0 lead in the fourth. And that was all preceded by some on-field schtick by Stephen Colbert that Anderson and other players clearly didn't find entertaining. And then Rosiak added this: Some sort of comedy bit that dragged on and left the players to all have to stand there and watch while he was trying to wrap up.
