  4. In Daniel Norris last 5 appearances he’s faced 22 batters total and here’s his line over that stretch: 6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 6 BB, 7 SO
  5. Strickland coming in. This is certainly going to be a bullpen killer type evening. Hopefully Lauer has 6-7 innings in him tomorrow.
  6. This is a fun look at Corbin Burnes dominance, including an in-depth look at his lesser discussed offering (curveball), via Ben Clemens with FanGraphs: Corbin’s Hammer
  7. Is Anderson the most cursed player when it comes to freak injuries and short starts? That was scary.
  8. The best part is Castellanos had apparently already given the bat to a kid, so the umps had to take it back to inspect it. The MLB.com story said they also did a replay review of the home run to see if there was something on the bat that helped aid the home run… which doesn’t seem to make much sense. Mike Shildt [and the entire Cardinals operation] is just weird.
  9. Cain now 6-for-10 all time against Kevin Gausman, and I’m not sure if any were bigger than that hit!
  10. I saw he was expected to go on paternity leave in the near future, but didn’t see an announcement it had occurred yet. That certainly could have something to do with his absence this evening.
  11. A minor quibble, but I wouldn’t have minded seeing Kolten Wong start against the pitcher he is 4-for-4 against in his career. Especially since the rest of the Brewers hitters [with the exception of Lorenzo Cain] haven’t been very good against Gausman.
  12. Some of the NL playoff races tightened up overnight including… The Giants now lead the Dodgers by just half (0.5) a game in the NL West. The Braves lead over the Phillies in the NL East is down to 2.5 games and Ozzie Albies sustained an injury fouling a ball off his leg/knee. The Mets are 5.5 games back of the division lead. The Padres pulled back to even with the Reds for the final NL wild card spot.

  14. Now that we’re down to the final month of the season and the Brewers are a lock to make the playoffs I figured we could dedicate a thread to discuss the MLB playoff picture and various scenarios that could play out. Feel free to share what you’re rooting for in terms of playoff matchups as well as what potential paths favor the Brewers and/or others. If the season ended today (Aug. 31) the playoff matchups would be as follows… National League Wild Card: (5) Reds at (4) Dodgers NLDS: WC Winner vs. (1) Giants and (3) Braves vs. (2) Brewers American League Wild Card: (5) Red Sox at (4) Yankees NLDS: WC Winner vs. (1) Rays and (3) White Sox vs. Astros
  15. Surprised no one included Korry Howell. He has struggled in a very brief appearance thus far at Double-A, but I think he’s a solid CF prospect (who can also fill a utility role) that could certainly find his way to the majors in a couple of years.
  16. The two things I immediately think of with Jerry Reuss are 1) the Brewers basically traded for him because he had specifically dominated them repeatedly, and 2) he used to explore stadiums and take photos including capturing some great photos of County Stadium.
