  1. The indication yesterday was that he’d meet the team in Atlanta and likely be in the lineup on Friday.
  2. Max Scherzer is reportedly starting in the first game of today’s doubleheader against the Phillies.
  3. From Andy Martino: Trevor Story trades are still more rumor than reality. Interested teams like Yankees getting mixed signals from Rockies, haven't had substantive talks about players.
  4. Just under 30 hours remaining to make trades…
  5. From Jon Morosi… Sources: The #Mariners have pursued a trade for #Twins ace José Berríos this week, although a deal is not close as of this hour. Minnesota is asking for a prospect package that includes a top young starter, likely Emerson Hancock or George Kirby. Asking price for Berrios is reportedly [and understandably] very high.
  6. Freddy Peralta: Batter (Pirates) vs Pitching Stats Chad Kuhl: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Pirates-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Pirates-Brewers
  7. Sounds like the details of the Gallo trade are going to change, but he’s still expected to end up in the Bronx… Per Jeff Passan: The New York Yankees’ deal to acquire outfielder Joey Gallo from Texas had undergone slight adjustments, sources tell ESPN, but is expected to be finalized Thursday. As @JackCurryYES said, this version will send four prospects to Texas, not six, and Joely Rodriguez to New York. The return to Texas for OF Joey Gallo and left-handed reliever Joely Rodriguez, if the trade is completed as expected, would be 2B Ezequiel Duran, SS Josh Smith, right-hander Glenn Otto and 2B/OF Trevor Hauver, per sources.
  8. As mentioned above it appears to be fake.
  9. Alberto Ciprian signed for $500,000 in 2019. While he still falls into the category of “lottery ticket”, he was a somewhat expensive international acquisition for the Brewers and likely isn’t just some total throw away prospect. Obviously being in the DSL he’s someone teams have a much better handle on than prospect writers. As a comparison, Hedbert Perez signed for $700,000 in 2019.
  10. Yeah, anything with that many alleged quote tweets would have a huge footprint and people talking about it. Appears likely that someone made it as a joke.
  11. It’s probably worth noting that during his time with the Twins Eduardo Escobar was considered “a clubhouse favorite.” Presumably he was well liked in Arizona as well.
  12. I think this is what makes it a big deal. The Mariners have the longest playoff drought not just in MLB, but all of professional sports. Granted the team has been insanely lucky (27-8 in one run and extra inning games combined), but they are also legitimately within in striking distance of ending a two decade era in which the franchise experienced continuous losing. While I actually think it was a smart baseball trade for the Mariners, the context with which (and with who) it was made wasn’t ideal.
  13. From Jeff Passan… BREAKING: The New York Yankees are finalizing a deal to acquire outfielder Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers, sources tell ESPN. The deal is pending medical review.
  14. Oh boy, that’s a big one.
  15. Good stuff. Almost spit out my drink! I’m not sure Hummel was even the top prospect included in this deal.
  16. This acquisition also helps keep Bob Nightengale’s stellar track record intact.
  17. Escobar has 4 home runs in his 54 career at bats at Miller Park/AmFam Field.
  18. I’ve seen people today float the idea of Mitch Garver as a RHH catcher and backup first baseman. Do we think that’s remotely feasible? It’s intriguing if nothing else.
  19. I like adding a switch hitter that can cover multiple positions with a little bit of pop. This fit always made sense, IMO.
  20. From Zach Buchanan: The Diamondbacks are acquiring Cooper Hummel and Alberto Ciprian for Eduardo Escobar, per a source.
  21. Cooper Hummel included in the trade return for Arizona. From Jeff Passan: Cooper Hummel, who has played at catcher, outfield and first base this season and is slashing .254/.435/.508 at AAA, is headed back to the Diamondbacks from Milwaukee in the Eduardo Escobar trade, sources tell ESPN.
  22. Per Robert Murray… Sources: Brewers and Diamondbacks have a trade in place. Sources: Brewers acquire Eduardo Escobar.
