  1. Via Will Sammon: In his first inning with the Brewers, Hunter Strickland threw more sliders than fastballs. That happened once with the Angels. For Strickland while with Brewers, that could be the pitch to watch. He threw a scoreless inning.
  2. How did the Reds just let that go? I’m not convinced Rock’s correct about that not being a reviewable play. He was playing in the outfield.
  3. Well at least the Brewers are still within striking distance of making the Reds feel like they really let one slip away.
  4. Rock is talking about outfielders playing further back like teams only play that way against the Brewers. Pretty much all outfielders play further back than they used to against everybody. Saw a compelling article that it might be more of a significant culprit limiting offense than the shift. EDIT: Here’s the article by Rob Arthur of Baseball Prospectus: Better Defense Is Costing MLB Thousands of Hits
  5. Can’t imagine Lauer lasts too much longer tonight. He needs to find some semblance of command pretty quickly here.
  6. Vogelbach’s June batting line according to Will Sammon… 10 for 33 with four home runs, three doubles, six RBIs and seven walks.
  7. Lauer’s command is really off tonight. Even on several of his strikes he’s been missing his spots by quite a bit.
  8. While his numbers are even better if you go to a more recent sample, Luis Urías over the past two full months (since April 12th) has been pretty solid: .258 BA / .346 OBP / .465 SLG / .811 OPS 9 2B / 1 3B / 7 HR / 26 RBI / 19 BB He had a bad first week and a half of the season in early April, but has been a solid contributor in the lineup ever since.
  9. Sounds like a significant number of pitchers spin rates are down across baseball (as expected), although maybe not as steep of drop-offs as were anticipated. Came across this summary article of some decreases from over the weekend: A Look At Recent MLB Spin Numbers

  11. Yeah, sort of speaks volumes while quite literally doing nothing at all.
  12. Same here, he’s really starting to look like he has his timing down and is squaring up pitches in the zone.
  13. JBJ has a .500 ops and makes a lot of money, so everything he does or doesn't do is magnified a lot. I also didn’t have much enlightening to say about the Garcia home run, other then of course that it was awesome!
  14. lol wut Well it’s written by a guy who hosts a Cardinals podcast, so I wouldn’t put too much stock in it.
  15. Figures after I made a comment about his propensity to walk batters. I guess you could say I’m eating Crowe, now.
  16. I missed the JBJ dive, assume that’s the one you’re referring to? Anything specific that was bad about it?
  17. The current Pirates hitters have a combined 65 plate appearances against Adrian Houser. Houser has not yet allowed a double or triple to any of them (although he has given up 4 home runs). Houser has had a little trouble against some of the Pirates top bats: Colin Moran (7-for-11, 2 HR), Bryan Reynolds (3-for-7, 3 BB, HR), Kevin Newman (3-for-9, HR), and Adam Frazier (3-for-10, BB) The Brewers have never faced Wil Crowe. One thing that stands out is Crowe has walked 25 batters in 39.1 MLB innings, so one of the themes of the weekend may continue.

  19. So Yelich hadn’t hit a double in his career with the bases loaded (77 plate appearances), now he’s done it twice in a row.
