  1. Ha.. I was only jiving my story with what you guys are sayin about her about attractivness and what not..but it did seem like she was flirting with Hardy a lil maybe.. she was talkin to him for a long time.. rest was overboard.. but gime a break
  2. I know I was jumping to conclusions on the above post and my thoughts.. I am half-heartedly joking about that.. with the conclusions and the flirting.. but it did really iriate me that night when I was waiting for JJ...
  3. I guess I'll be going against everyone here, but I don't like her, here's why: At the Winter Warmup at Miller park (tickets 150.00 per person), she was doing an interview with Davey with Gallardo, Hardy, Weeks, and Hart.. Myself along with a mother and her two young kids were waiting for JJ Hardy and a couple others.. after the interview had concluded she continued to talk to Hardy for an extended amount of time.. at least I swear 15-20 minutes, and for me specifically, JJ had not been up in the club because he was answering phones in the sales office if you recall.. so I really wanted to tak to JJ.. well she just kept talking and talking to him seriously.. it seemed like she just wanted to flirt with him, thats how she acted.. it seriously ticked me off.. fans were paying 150.00 to meet the brewers.. and where are the brewers specificially JJ.. talkin to her.. the event was not for her, it was for the fans.. so now whenever I see her I pretty much cant stand her.. to me it seems like she just wants to meet the brewers etc.. I really wouldnt be suprized if she's gone out on dates with half the club..
  4. Bill and Brian said today that he was hitting 94 on the NYM Radar gun.. and they thought it was wrong because Mota was around 92-94, Sheets and Santana were around 92-94, and all those 3 pitchers go alot higher than that.. with that said they were saying they think it was at least a couple miles per hour slow.. so with that thinking Gagne MIGHT have been around 96-97.. but thats just speculation but it sounds correct
  5. I think he needs to break out yes this year, and really could be a make or break type season for him. I don't think he's a bust. When I think bust I think a player that didnt' make it to the majors, or just sucked horribly in the majors and bounced around 5X to different clubs. He's not a "bust", at the same time he's turnining into the type of player that may not warant a starting spot.... 10 games mean nothing, Everyone's really playing poorly right now on the offesne. Fielder is hitting what .240 no HR's? You'll say then well Fielder hit 50HR last year so he's proven.. yes but if you're saying Weeks is a bust or w/e because of the games he's played this season, you can't use that. Even the best hitters go into funks and or can start the season off poorly as evidenced by Fielder. If Weeks plays poorly all year long he could be dealt. But when I say poorly I mean like .220-.230BA/4-8HR/ something like that. And I really don't see Weeks playing that bad. He may end up with a .240/15HR/30SB mark.. but in that sense thats still valuable to some clubs.. and they may think more is to come. Come back to this post Mid-Season and look and see how Weeks is doing. This is nothing ... as of right now..
  6. Ha why - Roberts for Weeks jesus christ - I'm sure the O's would jump on that so fast
  7. Hopefully it's OK to post that from Tom at JS Online - and from the Brewers site. IMO it seems like Stringfellow was stringing Cordero along. You think that Stringfellow had something in for this with himself with the Reds FO. Maybe "hey have Cordero sign with us and tell the Brewers you have a signficatnly higher offer and will give you 10 grand"? You think that happens in Pro Sports between agents and the Front offices. I mean what else could it be. So basically we have the following contracting stories: A. Francisco Cordero says the Brewers never offered him a contract in the Spring of 07' - obviously from his agent to Cordero. Cordero would have signed an extension, at least thats what Cordero is saying. B. Melvin setup a deadline in the 2008 Off-season for Cordero. Cordero did not like that. Both sides confirmed this. On that Friday then, Cordero accpeted the deal with Cin. Melvin says Stringfellow said Cordero had a significantly greater offer. Melvin was already at the top of his bracket of 40 million, but a few more million he says he would have taken it to ownership.
  8. I might have to say Doug made a couple bad moves on this all together dating back to the prior off-season. But then again, he left for an extra 4 million.. what the above poster says, why don't you go to your current employer and say hey X company offered me this etc, esp. if you were saying how much you love your current employer. Instead of just saying "we have an offer thats more money".
  9. I'm not going to jump on him yet, if you were to take Cordero's blown saves in Texas last season and instead have him start off like that .. look at how Cordero dominated all those years in texas, pitched poorly to start 06', pitched great after and dealt to us.... it's just magnified because it's the start of the season, it's wayyy toooo early to tell, I'm still going to remain optimistic, but maybe now cautiously optimistic.. As far as Cordero is concerned, he said that he would've signed a below market deal during the 06'-07' off-season with the Brewers, but the Brewers wanted to see him pitch. Sounds like a bad move on Doug's part.. but at the same time it almost seemed like that was a big chunk of the reason why he signed with Cin.. kinda like "you had your chance, screw you now".. but then again he said the Reds called him all the time during this past off-season really wanting him.. Should Doug have pressed more? I will say though at the same time his agent never gave the Brewers the chance to match the Red's offer.. so..he also cites that the Reds have the chance to get far, and almost seemed like the Brewers didnt? or at least thats what it sounded like he was implying.
  10. The Cardinals are doing just that right now: Overachieving. No way they keep it up, even if they continue to over achieve it'll only net them maybe 70 wins and they won't quite be a complete easy team to win against. Keep in mind they played the Nats this past week, and the Nats are pretty bad. So are the Giants and the other clubs coming up for them, so if they continue to over achieve and play the clubs like that (in reality their about the same as the Nats maybe a notch above the Giants), they'll look good in April. Carpenter and Mulder seems like they've been on the DL forever including last year, I really don't expect much from those 2 guys, and I still think Wainwright is really playing above his head both last year and this year. Rasmus is not a sure bet either guys, he could fail long term, probably not probable, but short term ala this season is very possible. And I think Ankiel is playing above his head, I could be wrong since theirs not a ton of info on him since hes been a hitter, but from what I've heard he's a .250-.260/30HR player at best with alot of K's. And while the Reds played very well the 2nd half of last season.. they still finished with how many wins/losses? Half a season doesn't count. I could go and say X player who had a great 2nd half will continue to put those numbers of the following year over a full year.. not probable. I think the Reds are decent esp with Cordero, but to go from what 70W's? in 07' to 85-90W in 08?. If Cueto and Volquez pitch well over the full season, YES they will, otherwise if they falter which Id imagine they will esp in that ball park, they'll probably only do maybe 80W's, and I think the Cubs/Brewers are a full notch above them - coresponding to 90W
  11. Love Kendall. Excellent at the plate, really a vet type player, works the count, shows discpline everything, and his defense is great also, and it appears hes doing better with his throws to 2nd compared to last season. Who knows but maybe he put up numbers similar to his days with the Pirates-not to the full extent with the power and spped? Maybe a .310-.315BA/5-8HR/10SB/.810OPS I don't think is out of the question.
  12. "1) It isn't like the Crew has a sure-fire ace waiting in the wings. They have prospects that might become a #2 or a #3. Jeffress has #1 potential, but is far away and not inspiring confidence with his actions yet. Sheets stuff is still the best in the organization when he is on. " You forget about Gallardo. The pitcher who dominated last season...
  13. He's been spraying the ball more with less power to all fields it seems - thus a higher BA possibly. So we may see him go .320/30HR.. he may dip this year and then next season may be a monster year with a .340BA/50HR.. but right now with what he's doing I think so far he's more likely to do the .320BA mark with 30HR's,.. I'm sure his power will come around, but to what extent?
  14. Doug Melvin compared him to Chris Carpenter. I'm big on fantasy publications and fantasy in general, they thought he could do more (after 2006 season), he had a good K:BB ratio if I remember correctly. I think the consensous was from something like 15W/3.60-3.80ERA/200K.. He looked like a pitcher who could do it (after the 06 season), but I don't think that'll happen anymore.. he seems to have taken 2 steps back in 07 and now 08 (thus far)
  15. you hear Craig re-did his swing.. it looks more normal nowadays.. maybe he's finally sober?
  16. Lets hope he does better and gets another chance in the next couple days. I know one MLB anaylist I can't remember who said during ST Gagne was throwing all FB's in one of the latter outings and got hurt with that. Well he was obviously trying to work on his FB location and command that, why is he doing that in a real game situation as someone said he threw 12 straight FB in the Fukudome AB. Maybe he couldn't establish that? Castro did say when he was warming up he had trouble on the mound because of the rain etc, and then when he pitched same deal and his glasses looked foggy. And a side note after the HR he did lean over like he was sick. (there was the flu going around the clubhouse). I think this can be tied to a number of things for which this is game 1 of 164 etc. If he blows a few more in the next couple weeks then I'd really worry, but keep in mind he's the same pitcher from Texas that converted 16 of 17 games and did very nice. So that can't just be written off as a fluke. And he's more healthy now then he was back then. I'll give him time, I think he'll be fine. Not the electric guy from the Dodgers in those days, but he'l finish with around 34-40 saves, 8.0 K/9. At least I hope .....
  17. Players from previous June Draft's who have held out for more money pitch in Independent ball until they get signed for the money they want at times. Indy players are completely separate from anything to do with Major League Baseball. So unless someone says otherwise if the Brewers have 2 catchers or extra catchers, they would NOT loan them to an Indy club under any circumstances. "I recall huntsville acquired an independent pitcher a couple of years ago, but I forgot the details" It's not really acquired, you make it sound like there was a transaction between the 2 clubs. Essentially the Indy players have agents or they represent themselves, and some Major League teams' scouts go to these Indy games, if they like a player, they'll talk to them, and the club will try to sign the player. A good example would be when you work at your job, a customer comes in and says "Hey I work at X place, I'll offer you this", as far as I know, theirs no contract, or if their is, I believe the player can break it. But I could be wrong on that half, - I'm pretty sure it's year to year if their is any contract.
  18. Per JS Online. Hall has done nothing to impress me numbers wise in camp thus far while apparently he's impressed Yost. Hart hasn't done much either, but Hart has seemed to come slowly around in camp, and he did so well last season batting 5th towards the end. If Hall struggles I'll be really dissapointed in having Yost having him bat there. Not to mention he's Braun's protection (as if he needs it), but nonetheless. I think will see alot of walks this year by Braun. Why pitch to Braun when you can pitch to the anemic Hall who can just swing and miss. How do you guys feel about this? For me I'm dissapointed already. Let this be the offical #1 Yost Mistake of the 2008 Season
  19. If you really want to be picky, Melvin is only the final person who has the say (and some could argue the bigger things he goes to Mark A. for such as Soup and I'm sure Gagne, but it's Dougs expertise on his advice to Mark A. ).. but continuing with my thought, if you want to be picky, Melvin is only the person who stamps the Approvals on things or Denied. Sure he goes to the Minor League Ballparks, watches the minors clubs, has expertise but he has a bunch of advisors and scouts who give their reccomendation to Doug, and then Doug makes the final call on things. For instance with Scotty Po, Doug may have liked him from when he saw him in Texas, but at the same time he probably said Mr. Scout go see how Scotty Po is doing, is he healthy? etc? The scout makes his reccomendation and then Doug listens, and usually based on what the scout says, Doug will say yes or no. With the June Drafts all the scouts reccomend what to do, who to pick etc, but its Doug says yes or no to it, and ultimately has the final say.
  20. I really don't think it's a big deal. It is but it isn't. Hes facing all sorts of issue with the law, with MLB, everyone. Second, Bonds is not retired as of yet. Did the Brewers remove any Molitor signs when he left for the Twins back in the day? Probably. When Molitor retired did they put abunch of signage back up displaying his efforts probably. It'd be like if the Twins would've held on to Johan this seaosn, and he became a FA, signed with say the Red Sox. Red Sox come into town, and all the Santana signage is still up and visible. I would imagne that after Bonds officially retires they'll put something back up, but again keep in mind that you can clearly tell they want the Bonds era to be over and done with, with the bad clubhouse prsence, the law, everything, they want it to be over with, and I see nothing wrong with that. Had Bonds been where he's at today not signed with a club, maybe retiring, but he DID NOT have any of the issues with the law, the clubhouse presence etc, then theres a good chance SOME of that stuff would still be up. Having signs in LF would stll be taken down, he doesn't play there anymore in LF ya know.
  21. You know he seemed to have flashes of brillance in relief, I remember one time when he was so pumped up pitching against the Cubs in relief and he just struck the side out if I recall correctly. He had the potential to be filthy at times, but in reality he never lived up to his hype. Royals started him and he did pretty bad the past 2 years. If another club gets him I'd hope that they would stick him in relief and really try to work with him. Would I want him back with the Brewers? No. Unless they stick him in AAA and he pitches in relief. If he excels and were in AAA for us, he may not even have a spot next season, much less this season. But like I said I wouldnt mind AAA and take a gamble on him, but not the majors, were past that.
  22. Give it up guys jez. 126 replies on Vargas being released. If he was so valuable he would've been claimed by another club. And unless you guys have proof that Vargas/Cappy/Bush etc had decent worth during the off-season before Spring prove it. It's very possible that Melvin got offered very very very minimal in what would have been the return for trading either of those three, so he said "you know what screw it, I'm better off taking them to ST and playing it out, then trading them for pennies on the dollar". And you know what that seems very very plausable and realistic of what he may have thought in the process. It's just not even worth it to make the trade. Sure again you can look back now and say at this point he shouldve taken it even if it was pennies on the dollar.. considering Cappy is hurt, and Vargas is now released, but thats the game of baseball. You can't predict/tell the future what will happen, you can't predict Wes Helms falling down in the tunnel at RFK stadium, you can't predict Sheets having an atrocious season or a Cy Young season. It's all about opinion attempting at juding talent and ATTEMPTING to predict things, but it doesn't always work out 100% of the time, and if it did, everyteam would be a 100+ win team hypothetically.. The Brewers at the end of the season may wish that the FA Corey Patterson had been with them (say he ends with .320BA/28HR/47SB line..).. along with all the other major league teams in baseball who wish they would've signed him, when he was spraling for a job with every potentially every club..
  23. Give me a break. Hes a number 4-5 starter, sure hes nice to have depth with, but 3million for depth? Villanueva has done NOTHING to prove he's NOT capable of pitching in the major league rotation. Until he does I'm fine with Villanueva in the rotation, and rather have that potential and upside than have Vargas and his high ERA. This is not a move that makes or breaks the Brewers for gosh sakes. If 2 starters go down yea he might regret it, but at the same time if you go to the Cubs rotation or any rotation and knock 2 starters out with injuries you will have problems. Parra can be brought back up if an injury ocurrs. If were really in deep trouble which I highly doubt it, Melvin will acquire someone on the scrap heep on the cheap who can do what Vargas would've been doing. Give me a break guys.
  24. It was always thought he would never be a full time player behind the plate, rather a utility player that could play behind the plate. But if he's there number one catcher at nashvile and full time, even if he doesn't put up popping numbers like our other players (braun, fielder, hart etc), catchers don't hit really. .so if he can provide adequate to above adequate defense and at least hit .270ish with a few homers, he could be our #1 catcher in 1-2 years if they feel he's ready for that, and with the potential upside since he's young.
