  1. Um. Then they are 4 games over .500 and in first place by 5 games?
  2. I'm kind of getting sick of Bill Hall hitting the ball around the field like he is Tony Graffanino.
  3. Absolutely and rightfully so, especially if they stay healthy.
  4. So in the last 10 games the Brewers are 5-5 and the Cubs and Pirates are 3-7. However, Yost should be fired and the Cubs and Pirates are "getting hot." OK?
  5. Ned Yost has a better chance of winning manager of the year than getting fired. The infield is all under the age of 24 and they are in first place. Seriously, teams go through tough stretches. This is no doubt one of them (we all knew it would be before they left for New York). They avoided the long losing streaks by only being swept in one series. They'll get hot again. The people who are worried, are just worried for the sake of worrying.
  6. They are 5 back.
  7. By comparison...the 2 teams with the best record in the league's #5 starters: (Red Sox) #5 starter (Taverez) has gone: 4 innings, 5.1, 4.2, 5, 6, 5, 7, 5.2, 5.2, 5.2 ***Worked INTO the 6th inning in 6 out of 10 starts (Angels) #5 Starter (Weaver) has gone 6 innings, 1.2, 5.2, 6, 6, 7, 6.2, 5, 4.2, 7 ***Worked INTO the 6th inning in 7 out of 10 starts Vargas has gone: 2 innings, 5, 6, 4, 5, 6, 6, 6, 4, 5.1, 6, 5.1 ***Worked INTO the 6th inning in 7 out of 12 starts Bottom line is....that's what 5th starters do. They are inconsistent. If they weren't, they'd be #3 starters or #2 starters.
  8. Considering Suppan has gone: 7, 6, 6.1, 6, 8, 9, 5.2, 6, 7, 6, 6, 7, 7 innings this year..... I don't anticipate it being a problem. Considering Suppan went 6 innings in 26 out of 36 outings last year, it's almost a lock that he will give you 6 innings. If that is the case...you just pitch Wise in the 7th, Turnbow in the 8th and Cordero in the 9th. I am not too worried. As for Vargas wearing out our bullpen, I'd say he is doing a great job of "SAVING OUR BULLPEN". How many #5 starters work into the 6th inning virtually every start??
  9. I really don't see what the big deal is about them calling it Wrigley Field North??? It is. Shampoo is right....when the Badgers went to the Rose Bowl in 1993, I bought a poster of the stadium and caption under the picture.... "CAMP RANDALL WEST" Not to mention, the radio guys call it that as though it's common knowledge at the Rose Bowl. I don't see any big deal with it.
  10. Again...what is your definition of successful? Zero runs every single time out? That's the definition of Hall of Fame and if he did that, he would be a closer, not a set up man. As I stated before. He has given up 0 runs in 21 out of his 28 appearances. Of those 7 games he gave up runs, 4 times it was only 1 run. That means in 3 out of 28 games he has given up multiple runs. I'll take my chances.
  11. You have to pick and choose your spots to do this. You can't bring Cordero in every time there's runners on base in the 8th inning. When Turnbow is facing the bottom of the order, you probably leave him in. But, with the game on the line and Soriano up as the go-ahead run...the situation dictated it. If you do it every single time the situation arises (regardless of who the batter is) you will run Cordero into the ground.
  12. Ummm. Wise. Capellan. Cordero. Spurling. Probably Turnbow. Essentially everyone but Villy. I think they'll survive.
  13. I'm glad to hear that Yost just said that he thought Turnbow was throwing the ball well tonight. At least I wasn't seeing things.
  14. Why? He had a 4 run lead with one guy on 1st. It should have been no big deal. I would put him in in that situation again. As for being automatic most of the time....he has appeared in 28 games. He has given up Zero runs 21 times. That's 75% of the time being automatic. Of those 7 times he gave up runs....4 of them have been a single run. So basically 3 out of 28 times he's given up more than 1 run. I'll take my chances with him.
  15. I completely agree with this comment. Do you agree with "Solid or decent"? I think that when you look at 8th inning guys around the league Turnbow is definitely in the top 10.
  16. Because I thought the bullpen was managed brilliantly tonight and the Brewers won?? Seems pretty clear to me? I don't understand what the big fuss is? He tried to get through the 8th with Villy, he gave up a lead-off walk. He went to his 8th inning guy with a FOUR RUN lead. TBow got squeezed a little bit, gave up a squib single just past Hardy....As soon as it was dangerous (winning run at the plate)...he went to the best closer in the game. Yes there are other ways it could have been done....could have started the 8th with Turnbow...could have let CV try to work through the 8th....etc etc... But I don't think any of them are the "right" way and I had no problem with the way he did it tonight.
  17. . Usually you pin a loss on Turnbow, but you're pinning the win on him? Sweet.
  18. No I look at both. I know the results weren't great, but I thought the location, mechanics, and confidence were good. He got squeezed on a couple close pitches to DeRosa or it's a different game. I feel like people expect him to get guys 1-2-3 every single outing because he's the set-up man, but every team in baseball has middle relievers that give up runs on occasion. It's part of the game. Luckily for the Brewers, Turnbow is automatic most of the time.
  19. Obviously the results weren't great. I didn't need your brilliant recap of what I just watched to tell me what happened. Watching him pitch...I thought he pitched better than the results indicated. He was squeezed pretty tight IMO on the DeRosa AB. He gets ONE of those 2 calls and then it's slider, slider instead of fastball, fastball.
  20. Good thing Suppan goes 7 almost every single outing. Wise is fresh. Capellan is fresh. CoCo didn't pitch last night and will be fine to pitch. I'd hardly call it an emergency.
  21. I think he managed it brilliantly tonight. Try to get through the 8th with Villy who has pitched well all year and save Turnbow and CoCo for tomorrow. CV walked the first guy. He went to his 8th inning guy who had a 4 run lead and a guy on first. He let him pitch until the go-ahead run came to the plate..then he went to the best closer in the league. What did you suggest he do differently? If he starts TBow in the 8th, then we get the "anyone can protect a 4 run lead---this is a time to pitch Spurling" argument that we have gotten so many times this year. If we could go back in time, I wouldn't change one move Ned made with the bullpen tonight. Now last night..I would have stayed with Bush instead of bringing in Shouse, but that's a different story.
  22. What in God's name do you suggest we do?? Spurling, Capellan, or Shouse against Soriano? Or leave in Turnbow? Cordero is 21 for 21 in save opportunities and has given up 1 run all year. He'll probably work around Soriano and go after the next guy. There's not another guy in the entire league (starter or reliever) I'd want on the hill now.
  23. I don't really think Ned did anything wrong. He was going to let CV pitch the 8th inning, but he walked the lead-off man. There's going to come a point in the season where TBow will need to pitch with a guy on base. Ned thought he'd give him a chance tonight with a guy on first and a 4 run lead. FWIW, I didn't think Turnbow looked that bad tonight. He looked great on the K of Murton and the single by DeRosa just squibbed past Hardy. Hopefully CoCo can make quick work of Soriano and finish the deal in the 9th.
