  1. I suspect at least a couple of the guys at Huntsville will be elsewhere after the break. Good outing by Hammond. I had him pegged to closely follow Yo to the majors, but last year squelched that.
  2. Actually, I think that your figuring is off the mark. First of all, if you assume the results for 7th, 8th, and 9th are independent, the number is closer to 34% of the time than 35%. Second, those outcomes aren't independent--big innings are more likely to be followed by big innings than would be expected by random, so it would be less frequent than that. Third, if my pen is giving up 2 or more runs per 3 innings in less than (probably) 30% of the games, that's really not bad. Let's say 30% of 8 ERA and 70% of 2 ERA equals a total ERA of 3.8, which I would certainly take.
  3. can we table this discussion until Gwynn is hitting below .400?
  4. I actually was gratified to see Bush didn't really give up the huge inning, where he definitely had a chance to do that. He's not going to walk that many guys (plus a HBP, iirc) very often. Give him a few more starts before you give up. He could be an average #3 (check the stats from last season to see what an average #3 does--It's not sub 4.00 ERA).
  5. It's difficult to project a guy like gindl, who is probably smaller than the 5'9" he is credited. Really, it's pretty difficult to project catchers, too, because they often hit great in the low minors and lose it by the time they get to AA. but he is a catcher, that counts for a lot.
  6. Most #5 starters don't come close to 170 innings. This is such a non-issue.
  7. If your only concern is some believed advantage to the AL, provide the DH for the NL, too. Or make it up to the home team to decide, in both leagues.
  8. More Revenue Sharing. That's It. I really don't like your #3 and 4. I really like differently-configured ballparks, though some minimums for foul territory, distance in power alleys, etc. might be reasonable. If they could engineer a retractable-roof stadium that still wasn't closed in on all sides, your number 2 would be fine. You should be able to look into the outfield and not see a wall past the seats. I'm indifferent on the DH, though it would help provide a place for Prince, long-term.
  9. If you talk enough, eventually you are going to say something stupid, even if you are smart. Dusty says more stupid things than any smart guy I know. Thus, I suspect he might not be that smart.
  10. If not the brewers, I don't care, I just want to see good baseball. If there is a solid player that is in the twilight of his career without ever getting to the WS, that would make a good story.
  11. bringing out suppan for the 7th was reasonable, as he was facing the bottom of the order. If hardy had gotten a hit, they probably would have pinch hit for suppan. It's way to early to worry about Ned's use of the bullpen. this is the second game, with a day off between them; any of the relievers should have been able to go. If Bush goes 3 innings tomorrow, Ned is a genius (well, assuming the brewers come back to win). Riske is probably the only reliever that gets the day off, for sure, tomorrow. The only worry is that villy was over-used in the first half, and you don't want that to happen to riske.
  12. he fields well and hits well, and he's not old--probably at the peak of his career right around now. I never heard of him causing trouble on a team, so who cares what some fans of other teams think? Yeah, I'd take him.
  13. I'd do it if batters crowd the plate as they do these days. Pitchers have to take back the inside.
  14. Yeah I saw it as well. Was it a typo by FSN though? Great hustle Kendall! I'm really liking him. pitching in the bullpen doesn't always mean "warming up". Starters throw on some of their off days.
  15. I think torres just wanted to pitch to more than two guys.
  16. I was kinda hoping pie would go into the toilet, too.
  17. I was kinda hoping soto would go into the toilet and they'd have to start blanco.
  18. hush, you'll jinx him. His big innings were usually 5th and later.
  19. I think suppan gets PH for, if they get that far. Otherwise, looks like he'll go another inning. 96 pitches so far.
  20. it seems kendall wasn't credited with a SB, just an error on Soto.
  21. so when does henry blanco get his first start at catcher?
  22. I'm only looking at the gamecast on espn. did lilly hit his pitch count or was he hurt? Or did they just want to bring in a RHP?
