  1. When they were on the same team, I thought Hammond would be following Gallardo through the organization. A bad 2007 for Hammond changed that. He's fine in 2008, and striking out a lot of guys. Any chance he'd be the Starter that is promoted if they need one, rather than Weaver, Defelice, or any of the other Nashville guys?
  2. I don't consider #8 to be a huge surprise. Nor #1 for that matter.
  3. Ford, Fermaint, Cain, Caufield are supposed to be legitimate prospects. Caufield is doing the best, but his OPS is still below .700. After a good start, Ford is now batting .227. His Strikeout-to-power ratio is at Krynzel levels. I know it's a long season, and it's hard to hit in Brevard, but their performance has been disappointing to say the least.
  4. I doubt they come here to read my take on anything. I'm not that much of an egotist to think I have any influence on their emotional well-being.
  5. this thread wasn't meant to be taken seriously. I'm just in a "looking for silver linings" mood.
  6. I'd like to see 2-4 more starts from villy, parra, and bush before I sacrificed any real prospects. They might do well enough to win, if the offense starts to hit like they should.
  7. There are plenty of players in the system that could be packaged for an extra arm or bat. Before the season, I had Gamel in that group, but no longer as he might be our most promising LH bat.
  8. Won't have to wait for the Sounds to finish the playoffs before promoting a few guys in September.
  9. brantley looks like he could have gotten the guy if he stretches for that one.
  10. The brewers are an NL-champion-level team vs. LH pitching, and are a fighting-it-out-to-escape-the-bottom-of-the-division team vs. RH pitching. I wish it were the other way around.
  11. I blame Gallardo, he should have jumped on Johnson with both feet! only kidding, casting blame doesn't help anything.
  12. I didn't see this thread, as I infrequently come to the transactions boards after the season is well underway, but before late season additions/departures are starting. Sorry I posted my thead in a different board, and it is clearly redundant with earlier posts in this thread.
  13. I'm definitely not saying they will; I don't think that, but if they did drop out of the playoff race, they could probably get a decent prospect or two for mota and torres, given their production so far.
  14. Branyan's not on the 40 man. Is there space? If that's an issue, Nelson seems like a good choice.
  15. I don't know how butler debuts so high, higher than a half dozen other pitchers who have performed better than him and have better stuff than him. Even though Butler was a 2nd round pick, he was probably a bit of a reach to be selected so high. that's the biggest surprise.
  16. in the pictures you posted, the stances are GREATLY different. They just caught them both adjusting their caps at the same time. look at the leg stance, and where they are relative to the plate.
  17. I'm looking at the stats for Brevard, and Bramhall seems like a legitimate prospect, but why is he pitching long-relief--the dumping ground for guys that can't start or pitch late innings? And Aguilar, the guys in the FSL can't hit him. Seems he should move up. Edit: Player's name spelling
  18. some guys are cut for performance, some guys are cut for lack of real ability (in spite of decent production). it will always be so in the minors.
  19. No, tendons connect muscle to bone. Ligaments (such as ACL) connect the upper to lower leg.
  20. Right. 4th vs. LH and 29th vs. RH doesn't bode well for a team that has to mash to win consistently, since LH are by far the minority of pitchers.
  21. I think Jenkins help vs. RH WAS critical.
  22. no comment, just wanted to post some OPS numbers vs. RHP for the last 3 seasons. Hardy: .691 Fielder: .951 Hart: .801 Cameron: .773 Branyan: .848 Gross: .825 Weeks: .750 Counsell: .696 (.838 in 2008).
  23. how about chuck knoblauch or pete rose as a comparable? that would be pretty sweet.
  24. Isn't Rivera Parra's catcher? That would be every 5th game, so Kendall would get about 130 starts. I suspect they might bring up a catcher in September that gets a few starts, or at least mop up the end of blowouts.
  25. Apparently that's not up to me, and the majority have not welcomed my Branyan suggestion for occasional starts. So to answer your question, anywhere other than 1b, and at least some times when there are RH starting pitchers.
