  1. It's amazing the team's record isn't worse than it is. I know we're dealing with smallish samples, but some of the players have been underperforming far beyond what normal variability would suggest. Prince, and Weeks are 1st on the list, as far as I'm concerned. Hall, Hardy, and Cameron are underperforming, but not tremendously, given small sample, though where is Hardy's power? Where is Hart's power? He's otherwise been doing fine. Braun is close to expectations, but could he take a pitch once in awhile? Only Kendall may be exceeding expectations, particularly with his arm. Is it unreasonable to have 8 hitters in the lineup hitting over .200? The pitching staff is more evenly distributed among guys that are exceeding and underperforming expectations.
  2. I don't see how those two offers are anywhere close. Ellsbury and Lowrie aren't close to Saunders, Willits, Figgins and Mathis, nor to the value of Prince.
  3. LOL, would you rather I just post the amount of errors on balls that he does get to? Or does that have no value either? That wouldn't have much value, no, because it doesn't tell you how many plays he is making compared to other players at his position, compared to the type of pitchers on the mound, the handedness of the batters, etc. Zone Rating is probably the best readily available fielding statistic, but I'm not sure that's available for minor leaguers. For minor leaguers, you probably have to rely on scouting reports, and glimpses that you see during Spring Training. ok, but what you are missing is that weeks commits a lot of errors while SIMULTANEOUSLY not getting to a lot of balls, relative to other players at his position. There is no justification that weeks is even an average fielder, he is not.
  4. .220 from branyan is not the same as .220 from counsell. .220 from branyan is ok for the top lh bat off the bench if he's ripping those hits over and against the outfield wall.
  5. range has never been weeks strong suit either, in spite of his speed. weeks clearly has higher "upside" than crabbe, but weeks hasn't come close to his upside this season. At what point do you take the guy with less potential, but who performs closer to his potential?
  6. and brewers have 3 starters below .200. too late in the season for that.
  7. While I love Peavy, Webb, and Santana, how many times have they powered their team through the playoffs? I also think those guys are in another class above lincecum and cain, though lincecum could join their neighborhood in another year or two.
  8. The western half of the PCL is hitter-friendly, Nashville, not really.
  9. I don't mind him striking out 40% of the time if he hits a HR 6% of the time and walks 10-15% of the time.
  10. Bring him up to Milwaukee. We need a left-handed power bat. 3 homeruns tonight. Average up over .370. No not, Gamel, but Russell Branyan. Give him another shot!
  11. Branyan finished with 3 HR and brought his average up over .370. Weaver pitched badly, turnbow pitched badly (but picked up the win), and Pena pitched a clean inning for the save.
  12. Braun said that the contract negotiations had been bothering him. I wonder if that's what Fielder is dealing with, and it's affecting his performance, effort notwithstanding. Because right now he is hitting like a below-average 1b, and he ISN'T going to get his big payday if he keeps it up. I really think he could do better than last year (maybe not increase HR, but have a more Pujols-esque average). I don't know what's going on. Regarding Fielder not holding up, Ruth didn't look like a guy that would hold up, and he was a hard-drinker, too, but performed at a very high level until his last couple of years. I'd settle for 700 HR from him. Guys that GAIN a lot of weight during their career don't hold up; guys that maintain themselves, albeit at a heavy weight, hold up better. We don't know which Prince is.
  13. I can't recall what zach throws, but he has to have more than one pitch if he was a starter most of his career. Riske pretty much just varies a fastball.
  14. first, you would only trade Prince if you expect him to be more like the 2008 version than the 2007 version, going forward. 2nd, A 50 HR guy is worth more to a team than any starting pitcher. 3rd, Cain isn't that good, though he is very young. He walks a lot of guys, and he's a flyball pitcher which doesn't bode well for Miller Park. I'd rather have Parra than Cain over the next few years. 4th, Lincecum has been great this season, but it's only a 1/4 a season, and I really don't think he'll hold up well over many seasons. so, in short, I wouldn't mind having L&C on the brewers, but I'd be sure I was not overpaying for them, and any trade that includes Prince would likely be overpaying.
  15. Salome should get the Maori facial tattoos, too. That would be cool. If his legs are as muscular as his arms, he probably looks pretty scary, even at his height.
  16. he looks like a girl!
  17. between AA and AAA, seems almost half the pitchers are lefty, so they had options other than zach.
  18. I didn't know that fred was his dad. didn't he play in SD?
  19. webb is the first guy I'd pick to form my rotation.
  20. Is he really almost 32 and never been to the majors? His numbers have been pretty solid at every level.....His K:BB ratio is better than 4:1! Are the stats I'm looking at wrong? nope, he's been swell. If you don't have "stuff", you aren't going far, fast. I believe he developed a new pitch a couple years ago.
  21. Is Jones still going to be limited to 3 inning starts in huntsville?
