  1. You were given game 1 on a silver platter, but yes it was still a win. As far as the "must win" stuff, it's not only because it's the Cubs, it's because the Cardinals continue to nip at our heels, and we have (at least on paper) a very realistic chance to get swept if we do not win tonight. Is a sweep devastating to the Brewers? Yes, considering if that happens they are probably tied in the wild card at best, and will be down 5 to the Cubs for chance at homefield advantage. Getting a split or at worst one game out of four in this series is paramount in the big picture.
  2. Cubs will win 3 of 4 or sweep.
  3. Well, if we want to split and remain only one game back, have to win tonight. For some reason I'm just not confident at all in the Brewers at the moment, it seems all of their momentum is gone from the 7-0 road trip, the play since coming back home has been poor to say the least, sans a 9th inning Braun bomb and we are 0-4 at home since coming back. I think Sheets will need to give up 2 ER or less in 7 IP+ for us to have a shot tonight.
  4. You don't get it. That's fine. I just hope you never coach my kid in Little League. He gets it, his opinion is just different than yours. Just because you have an opinion does not make it a universal one. Sorry.
  5. Nothing wrong with it. Hitting a HR is very hard and this was a rivalry series that was decided by late game heroics. I'm an emotional person and I love emotion in sports.
  6. I mapped it out through the end of the season, and assuming no injuries and/or skipped starts, we have the following guys pitching the remaining games vs. Cards/Cubs: Today: Sheets 07/28 vs. Cubs: Sabathia 07/29 vs. Cubs: Sheets 07/30 vs. Cubs: Parra 07/31 vs. Cubs: Bush 08/26 at Cards: Sheets 08/27 at Cards: Parra 09/16 at Cubs: Sabathia 09/17 at Cubs: Sheets 09/18 at Cubs: Parra 09/26 vs. Cubs: Suppan 09/27 vs. Cubs: Sabathia 09/28 vs. Cubs: Sheets It lays out unbelievably well, almost ridiculously well, only two non top 3 starter games out of 13 games. Just trying to keep the optimism flowing. In addition, number of starts remaining for each starter, assuming Bush/McClung home/road split: Sheets: 13 Sabathia: 12 Parra: 12 Suppan: 12 Bush: 7 McClung: 5
  7. Get the damn runner on third in please.
  8. How is Prince getting hit relevant? He was not trying to hit him.
  9. Yost should have been ejected for that. The ump didn't call for help and Prince wasn't even close to going. Then the ump goes all ego. Umpire = a bum.
  10. Way too many guys left on base tonight. And Prince didn't go, not even close.
  11. Here we go baby. And Looper is at 88 pitches with only one out in the 5th.
  12. Cobs is a NSSB reference by their fans to the Cubs when they are playing poorly. The Cobs can turn back into the Cubs once they start playing better.
  13. If anyone wants to see it in added form (going off of zzz's grid), our remaining SOS is 3077-3258 (.486).
  14. I wouldn't sit Weeks when he's starting to show signs of getting it going. Let him ride out this mini hot-streak. Same for Hall. And it's amazing to see Weeks criticized LAST NIGHT for swinging at a first pitch when he had 2 hits including a 3-run bomb and got on base a third time via BB. Any time you drive in three runs and score two, you had a good game regardless.
  15. Sabathia vs. Lilly Sheets vs. Zambrano Parra vs. Dempster Bush vs. Harden
  16. I'm going to be saving this post for October 1st and then we will all see it again. And you're saying that is a good thing or a bad thing for the Ned detractors?
  17. I think the WC is going to come out of the NL East, and the Brewers are going to stay home yet again. NL East: Phillies/Mets NL Central: Cubs NL West: Dodgers WC: Phillies/Mets I see us losing enough games while leading in the second half of the season due to the bullpen issues. This team has also been notoriously a poor team in the second half of the season under Yost. Whether you want to blame that on his managing style or completely on personnel is up for debate, but it has been a trend.
  18. It seems like Bush throws harder at home. I have nothing to back that up at all and someone will probably bury me with a spray chart faster than Prince can house a tofu burger.
  19. Splitterfj, where did you see that Harang got scratched? So do we have to face Cueto instead?
  20. Phillies win 4-1. Frenchy #2 homers for Cubs, 8-5 Reds.
  21. Griffey bomb, 7-3 Reds.
  22. Cardinals with one more chance in top of 9, down 4-1 to Phillies. Howard has homered twice, that guy is absolutely on fire. Reds up 4-3 on the Cubs in the 4th, Lilly already knocked out of the game. Reds two on and no one out.
