  1. The people defending this trade need to factor in what this does to the lineup. Replacing Hardy and Cameron with Escobar and Gomez means we lose major power and OBP ability. As of now our lineup is awful past the 5 hole. I really question how we are gonna be even average offensively even with Braun and Fielder in the lineup.
  2. As of now we have an average lineup that is garbage below the 5 hole and no pitching. I really think we have to worry about our offense as well now. Once we trade Gamel and McGehee regresses to his career norm we will really be a bad team.
  3. This lineup could be really bad next year with Escobar, Gomez, and Kendall hitting 6,7,8. That will mean our lineup essentially ends at the 5 spot. I dont see how anyone can defend this trade in any way. Gomez and Escbar may very well both have .300 OBP next year and will kill our chances of scoring runs.
  4. Explain to me why we would trade for a guy whose main offensive attribute is speed when he cant even get on base. Also why would we trade for speed when Macha doesnt let anyone run. JJ Hardy had to have more value than this. You must get a pitcher in return for Hardy, even a guy like Morrow who at least has upside. This is by far the worst trade Melvin has ever made.
  5. Melvin has lost me forever. He just traded our best trade bait for garbage. Now he will probably unload Gamel for an average starter. This trade is as bad as it gets.
  6. Enough with the soft tossers with no upside.
  7. Count me in on the yankee hate fest. I am sick and tired of having to compete against teams with huge payroll advantages. MLB needs a salary cap like the NFL so fans all around the country feel like they have a chance to win the World Series. As much as I love the Brewers I dont feel like we will ever have a good chance of winning a championship unless the system changes. On a side note just be happy that none of you actually have to live in New York and be subjected to yankee fans.
  8. Trust me as nasty as Philadelphia fans they dont compare to yankees fans. yankees fans are the most arrogant fans in the world who actually believe that they are "earning" this victory. Watching the parade right outside my office window will be the icing on this poisonous cake for me.
  9. Attanasio has done everything he can do financially with this teams payroll. It is not his fault that the market size doesnt support a higher payroll. We cant expect him to take a huge loss every year so the Brewers can compete with the likes of the yankees and red sox. The fact remains that the yankees are nearly guaranteed a playoff spot every year because of their payroll while we have one playoff appearnace since 1982. If that is not the very definition of imbalance I dont know what is.
  10. This is a perfect example of how not to build a pitching staff. This organization has to stop wasting big money on avaerage to below average pitchers. If Melvin hasnt learned his lesson from Suppan then he wont be around much longer. I cant imagine Melvin giving big money to a Washburn or Davis type. I could deal with Washburn as a replacement for Looper at the same type of money but thats it.
  11. I have no interest in watching the Yankees roll to a championship. Until baseball gets a salary cap I will find very little enjoyment in watching playoff baseball because the Brewers will rarely be a part of it.
  12. kramnoj, I agree with what you are saying but I spoke to Melvin about a lot of players and he was way more effusive in his praise for Kendall than anyone else.
  13. I dont see how any rotation that has Suppan, Looper, Bush and an underachieving at best Parra can be considered average when Parra is the only one of the four with any upside. Melvin cannot under any circumstances bring back the rotation intact if he wants to keep his job past the 2010 season.
  14. Lets just say I would be shocked if Kendall does not return. I definitely do not have any inside info but the one conversation I had with Melvin at Citi Field told me all I need to know about his feelings on our awful catcher.
  15. Jack Z really lucked out bigtime with this one. I wish we could get so lucky and have Suppan and Kendall retire. Yes I know Kendall is a free agent but he is returning.
  16. Greinke is the only type of pitcher I would be willing to trade Gamel for. I dont want any part of a one year rental for a guy that has a chance to be a star.
  17. There is no way I would trade Braun for Greinke.
  18. We can keep Cameron and still get starting pitching by letting Looper and Kendall walk as well as possibly Bush. We also have good trade bait with Hardy, Hart, and McGehee so getting pitching shouldnt be so hard without letting Cameron go. What free agent pitching would we be getting with Camerons money anyway? Lackey is the only top option and we will almost surely be outbid for his services. If Melvins plan is to let Cameon walk so we have extra money for Doug Davis and Washburn he is making a huge mistake. The last thing we should do is lose Cameron just so we can sign average or below average starters for big money.
  19. Boston can afford this strategy because they can easily afford to eat a bad contract. I do agree that the Brewers should target high upside guys like Sheets and Bedard over average to below average guys like Davis and Washburn but I doubt Melvin will take this strategy. I fully expect him to ignore injury risks and sign "reliable" guys with no upside.
  20. Ned said the Astros were one starting pitcher away from contention. Maybe that pitcher could be one Jeff Suppan. Imagine the joy in Yost managing Suppan with the Astros.
  21. If Melvins idea of improving the pitching staff includes the likes of Davis and Washburn he might as well start looking for a new job becuase next season will be his last as Brewers GM.
  22. I really think we are going to make a serious mistake if we trade Gamel instead of McGehee. If Gamel plays every day he will be a great hitter and he is lefthanded which is exactly what we need. I just cant see any way that Gamel will ever get a fair shot with Macha around and that is just sad.
  23. I dont think this qualifies as a sleeper but I think Gamel is a lock to be traded now that Macha is back.
  24. X, I agree with you completely but I think its a lock that Gamel will be traded now that Macha is back. I also believe that Melvin is gonna be fooled by McGehee having a career year.
  25. Cameron strikes out too much to win a Gold Glove.
