  1. two brewers, this trade proposal is not anywhere near the level of Escobar, Lawrie, Salome and Braddock. Its more like Lawrie, Scarpetta, Cody, and Axford. That is the type of deal I would do in a minute. Lawrie is just as good a prospect as Martinez and has more value to Toronto as a Canadian. Cody is on the same level as Niese. Axford is in the same neighborhood as parnell and Scarpetta is more highly thought of than the SS Toronto would receive.
  2. I find it hard to believe that Toronto would take that load of garbage from the Mets for Halladay. Martinez is one of the most overrated prospects in baseball and the rest of the package is garbage. If that rumor is true it would say we could get Halladay without Gamel or Escobar which I find hard to believe. I would be shocked if Toronto traded Halladay for a package that pitiful and Ricciardi should be fired on the spot if he offered that deal to the Mets.
  3. Any manager that gets "flummoxed" at the prospect of playing a great young player like Gamel is in over his head. This is completely the wrong job for Macha. We will always have young players and if the manager only wants veterans we are in trouble. The situation for opening day where Macha pitched Suppan instead of Gallardo because he was afraid of pitching a young guy on opening day was the first sign that Macha fears young players.
  4. This trade is an indictment on the incompetence of Macha. Since Macha refused to play his best option every day (Gamel) and just doesnt like young players Melvin was forced to trade for a mediocre player. I completely agree that Melvin and Macha are not on the same page and hope Doug pulls the plug after the season. Gamel has shown that when he is given the chance to start that he will produce some nice numbers yet Macha was constantly looking for reasons not to play him. His comments about Melvin putting him in a "zim zam" with Gamel just shows how incompetent Macha really is.
  5. I think Lopez has played some OF so he really does add some flexibility to the team.
  6. I read somewhere recently ( I think it was Heymans column ) where a Brewers exec compared Escobar to a young Alfredo Griffin. If thats the case I would definitely include him in a deal for Halladay. As far as not losing anything if we replace Hardy with Escobar I couldnt disagree more. Hardy is a far better offensive player than Escobar will be for at least 3 or 4 seasons and more than likely ever. I realize Hardy is having a bad season but he is far better than he has shown this year and Escobar at this point is a lightweight with the bat. In time he might develop but as of today he would be a below average offensive shortstop in MLB.
  7. I guess Branyan wont be an undervalued gem anymore after this season. Good for him, I really hope he lands a nice 2 or 3 yr deal for big money this offseason.
  8. Lopez is far from great but I dont see how anyone can compare him to Kendall who hits about one ball per week out of the infield. I feel bad for Gamel because I really feel like he was the best option but playing everyday in AAA is far better for Mat in the long run than rotting on the bench in Milwaukee.
  9. Obviously the optimal situation would have been Gamel everyday at third with McGehee sharing second with Counsell but Macha just doesnt want to play Mat. From what I have seen of Macha he doesnt like young players so Gamel is being wasted on the bench. Mat can now play everyday in AAA and not use up service time. Hopefully Melvin cans Macha after the season so Gamel can get a fair shake. Lopez is a decent acquisition since we didnt give up much and we most likely will recieve a draft pick for him after the season. I still dont think this team is anywhere near being a playoff team but we didnt give up anything irreplaceable in this deal.
  10. I would rather see Gamel stay on the team and play everyday but at least we can now send him down and have him play everyday since Macha doesnt seem to like him anyway.
  11. I have to say Im impressed. I dont particularly think we need Lopez as Counsell has been solid but we really didnt give up much and we will most likely get a draft pick when he leaves. There really is no downside to this trade whatsoever.
  12. Macha is very unimpressive as a manager to me. Between pitching McClung in high leverage situations and letting Kendall hit in the ninth his decisions just baffle me.
  13. The same people that are advocating giving up Gamel in a trade for Halladay would have been willing to give up Braun before he showed exactly what kind of player he was. Gamel has a chance to be an absolute star and Im just not willing to give up a great young player like him for Halladay. I just dont think this team is very good, Halladay will not make us a world series contender. We are 2 games above .500 and in a 4 team race. Even with Halladay I dont see us being better than either St Louis or the scrubs and that is why I wouldnt do this deal. I am willing to give Escobar and possibly Lawrie but to me Gamel is an absolute dealbreaker.
  14. Gamel has a chance to be a .900 OPS type of hitter while Escobar may never have more than a .750 or so OPS. The comparison to Alfredo Griffin sure doesnt excite me and makes me feel that Gamel is far less expendable and the one untouchable in my mind. I also dont see this team as being one pitcher away from a championship. We need to think of the future which is just as bright potential as the present. We are two games above .500 and have played poor baseball for the better part of the last two months. We are in a 4 horse race for one playoff spot and I just dont think we are a championship level team with or without Halladay.
  15. I definitely didnt know about Lawrie possibly having a bad attitude and if thats true maybe he should be included. In the case of Gamel I see him being a .900 OPS type of hitter who I think can stay at third base and become quite good there. The idea that I get is that Melvin feels that Escobar is THE untouchable. Escobar is the guy that Melvin is always talking about glowingly, much more so than Gamel. I really hope Im wrong because I see Gamel as the far better player for us but I think Melvin will offer him in a Halladay deal before he offers Escobar. Its my opinion that this team needs to always think about tomorrow as well as today and giving up 4 or 5 elite prospects for a year and a half of an elite pitcher is just not something that serves the future of this organization well. I just dont see this team as a World Series contender with or without Halladay and would hate to mortgage the future for him. This team has too many holes and Halladay cant fill them all.
  16. I absolutely hate the idea of this trade. I really dont want to give up a big part of our future for Halladay no matter how good he is. I would not under any circumstances trade away Gamel who I truly believe will be a great player for us. I could be talked into giving up Escobar who I feel is overrated ( a Brewers executive compared him to Alfredo Griffin) but it will take far more than Escobar to get the deal done. Gamel and Lawrie are the two guys I really want to keep and I am sure that one if not both would have to be included. Gamel is just too important to the future of this team to be included in any deal. I really hope we arent desperate enough to make a deal like this.
  17. I just want to throw in my 2 cents and say that I would definitely be a seller and not a buyer this season. The team has mostly played terrible baseball for the better part of two months and we may very well be the 4th best team in our own division. The only way this team makes the playoffs is winning the division (the wild card spot is getting further out of reach every day) and I just dont think we will win this division even if we trade our future away for Halladay. I would look to trade the likes of Suppan and Looper for sure and would definitely trade Hardy for a top young pitcher. I would also love to trade Hart but his value must be incredibly low right now so we should ride it out for the rest of the season with him and hope his value increases.
  18. Once again Gamel is not starting. Letting him rot on the bench is one of the most inexcusable events of the Doug Melvin regime.
  19. Great lineup today. Have your worst hitter leading off and have Gamel rot on the bench again. Ned Macha is a complete dope.
  20. I am more than willing to give up on McClung as a starter. He is way too inefficient to ever be a viable starting pitcher. Even when he pitches well he throws over 20 pitches per inning. The guy is a complete bullpen killer with his short starts. I would be more than happy to throw McClung in as part of a package to get a good starting pitcher. Maybe some unsuspecting team will think McClung can close for them.
  21. McClung is a bullpen killer when he starts. Even if he pitches well he is incapable of going more than 5 innings because its a guarantee that he will average at least 20 pitches per inning.
  22. Fantastic pitcher this guy is. I cant believe that people on this site actually think he is good.
