  1. I saw plenty of people around here using ERA to describe a particular 4.75-5.25 range. I can see how this is no longer a convenient argument. That is good there is a Tom Tango stat that shows Suppan as not being completely useless. I will no doubt learn it when I get some free time, but I hope it doesn't leave out home runs that are not legit.
  2. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any takers for the Suppan under 5.25 ERA in 2010 wager. Maybe I should have tried earlier this year.
  3. There were plenty of defeated looking players on the TV last night. Those players had no chance of winning the game.
  4. Kind of reminds me about all the hype surrounding Brandon Jennings after his 50+ point performance. The media loves to overreact.
  5. I think John Heyman is the only pundit out there saying it's a good deal so far. That says something, I think. Yeah, it says he is the ultimate agent pundit. I wonder what his "other" income is comprised of?
  6. Because I've seen Pujols look pretty defeated after actually being defeated. Not me, he always looks ticked off after failing. At least when I'm watching. Being ticked off and wearing the look of defeat appear different to me. Maybe its just me, but I can somehow differentiate the two. If you haven't seen players look defeated, try reviewing some tape of the past two Brewers series. There was plenty. Call me a sceptic but I think most of this stuff is just made up after the fact. Well I was there yelling for two specific players to chin-up, and honestly I don't feel I need to discuss which ones. The game was not over, but they could have fooled me. With the attitude being worn, there was very little chance of comeback success on that night.
  7. You could be right, but they could have went 0-2. The bottom line is this was not my point.
  8. It sounds you are saying that if Hawking would have been pulled in both of those games it may impacted out W/L record I said, "that leaves us watching Hawkins blow two games in four days." We wouldn't (likely) have watched Hawkins get knocked around. Could have been someone else losing the game, but I am sure (in at least one of the games) Hawkins would have been pulled. I will not take the stance that it would affect the W/L record, I am just saying it would be more fun, cheaper, and less annoying.
  9. If 1 manager doesnt make a difference in W/L then why will the consensus of 1000 managers make a difference in W/L? You missed my point. There is no impact on W/L, like so many here like to argue. Save the money and let the fans run the game. Also, there will be none of this loyalty to the players garbage that leaves us watching Hawkins blow two games in four days (because he's our 8th inning guy, so he deserves to finish the inning).
  10. Teams get fired up when they play good, not the other way around. Isn't that obvious? So I should expect to see my team deflate and wear the look of defeat when they are down 2-0 in the seventh inning? I wonder why Pujols (or any Cardinal in general) NEVER shows me this body language when they are down. One of these years, the Brewers will have a Manager (or Catcher - I'll take one of two) that I do not despise as a professional baseball employee.
  11. Flat and lethargic? Yeah. Flat and lazily heading out the field after another lackluster inning of hitting. Defense that never looked ready to make a play (might have something to do with Doug Davis and his awesome delivery strategy of putting opposing hitters to sleep in the batters box - how can I argue, he's made millions doing it). We have a starting pitcher that thinks he's making good pitches despite his 9.1 IP/9 ER/16 H!/3 BB/6 K/3 HR!/8.68 ERA!/2.04 WHIP! I'm sure I know who's telling him he's making good pitches. The only hustle I saw on Saturday night was Coffey coming out of the pen. It was refreshing.
  12. The Brewers should innovate, and let the fans text in the manager's duties. Text in the lineups, pitching changes, defensive substitutions, pinch-hitting, etc. I'm sure the Brewers could find 1,000 or more knowledgeable fans to volunteer, and they would text in their choices, and then the team can go with the majority as their decision. How often was the audience wrong on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Managers are useless (don't make a difference in W/L), so let's be the first to get rid of them. Have a "manager" in the dugout that just does what the voting fans tell him to do.
  13. 5yr $100 mil is the max the brewers should spend. Even though I think it would be a smarter move to invest that money on Weeks, McGehee, and another pitcher I concur. I hope Melvin can find a taker giver.
  14. Prince is closer to 4 years younger than 5 years younger. Also like CBC said, ROY, MVP and WS ring trump HR Derby winner. Not to mention, Howard's defense is solid, while Fielder is amongst the worst in the league at the position.
  15. This pretty much sets the ceiling for Prince. He should not get as much $ as Howard. More like 5 years, $110M.
  16. Suppan has negative value as a player, period. It doesn't matter how or when you use him. If this was any market larger than KC, CLE, or MKE, he would be out of baseball.
  17. Maybe Suppan can get closer to that 4.75-5.25 ERA coming out of the bullpen.
  18. Its hard to blame Macha for these losses, but in listening to his interviews, I can see why this team shows up flat and lethargic at times. Macha is an anti-spark. I have no knowledge what he's like in the clubhouse, but for some reason I can picture him taking a long nap after flipping through a copy of Where the Wild Things Are.
  19. I feel a bit like a Pirates fan when Suppan pitches, very little hope of seeing a victory. Sadly, I will feel the same way tomorrow.
  20. I have posted in other threads, but I am terminating DISH ($90 for my 9 remaining months), and its mainly because of this. Ultimately, DISH has limited bandwidth for HD broadcasts, and the Brewer games have been getting the shaft. There have been 3 so far this year not broadcast in HD. The reps have told me they "don't guarantee broadcasts will be in HD." Well, U-Verse has so I am switching. Its a shame these companies don't take their customers seriously. Each time I called, the reps did not have the proper information supplied to them to even know what channels appear on my grid.
  21. "Thursday's game was indeed a rarity. According to some quick research at Baseball-Reference.com, only three other times since 1920 has a home team been shut out in a game in which they coughed up 20 or more runs, last happening in 2004 when the Indians rolled at Yankee Stadium, 22-0. The Pirates have been on the other side of Humbletown, too, beating the Cubs, 22-0, in 1975 at Wrigley Field, and the Yankees clobbered the Philadelphia A's, 21-0, in 1939, at Shibe Park." 22. We've had this thread for some bad reasons, so how about a positive thread about Braun: In baseball, we generally don't like to jinx the positives http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  23. I always thought Erin was crazy. And the episode with her brother started to solidify the character as a bit off. Andy will never get his happily ever after.
  24. If MLB Network is a must, you need to know that DISH does not offer it. I am in the process of dumping DISH, so you won't get my recommendation there. Why is DirecTV not an option?
  25. But most of the pitchers they selected high in the last decade were complete busts. With this I can relate.
