  1. Can we get a designated booing thread? It's discussed all the time, and I'm sure those of us that have no interest in the conversation would love to see it confined to one thread. It would be sort of fitting to incorporate a Booing/Venting thread. Ahhh, I really miss the venting thread.
  2. In 2007, Prince Fielder had an 1.031 OPS and 50 HRs. Fangraphs estimated the free agent value of his 2007 season at almost $21 mil. We can all agree that his free agent worth was in the tens of millions. The only fix I can come up with would be an unheard of "pay for play" type of compensation scale, where players are paid for how they actually play and not for what they are perceived or projected to do in the future. This obviously will never happen, so some players will be grossly overpaid while some will be underpaid at some given point in their careers. Prince also received a nice sum of cash years before playing a single game with the Brewers.
  3. Because he was going to get a minor league deal. Which is probably one reason why he retired.
  4. Prince is one of Boras' next bonanzas. I don't think he will be getting that contract in Milwaukee. He should be traded if it nets anything better than 2 draft picks. The horror would be if he goes to a team and is not the highest rated free agent signing for that team (Sabathia). My money is on Melvin trading him either in the offseason or as a rental next year (barring a run at a Championship). The money he will likely get elsewhere is not the Brewers market value for his services. Disproportionate market values in MLB will demand he play elsewhere sooner than later.
  5. The reality is that these things are worth something and Boras doesn't value them in the least because they don't benefit him. If players ever figure this out, Boras will fade away into irrelevance. That's how I want to see him go out. He's too good of salesman for this to happen. He would have to really slip up and mutter some insensitive comments in public or to one of his clients for this to happen. He's got most his clients believing he cares about them and has their best interests in mind, regardless of what reality dictates.
  6. The Giants met up with Tim before the meeting and had a nice "session" with him. Tim was all like, "no problem dude, i'll sign that deal." Ahh, if only Jeffress would have won two Cy awards prior to getting busted with the ganja.
  7. I'd say when everyone is booing (dropped pop fly, Bill Hall style base running, or in the direction of the opposition), its probably a good time to boo. If you are booing, and there are people shaking their head at you or giving you dirty looks (because you are booing Wes Helms for just showing up to the park), its probably not a good time to be booing.
  8. I think a combination of the two would result in the proposed booing. I see no valid reason to bring the gender of arbitration panelists into the discussion - in either black or blue text - so let's not anymore. Thanks. Another liberal agenda http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  9. Hart thought he lost. I don't have any ill will toward Hart. He will need to have a great year this year in order to hit the payday. This win increases the chance for him to be non-tendered next year. If that happens, he will need to have a really good year under his belt to get the money he wants.
  10. Believe me when I tell you senior management would not take kindly to a $700K bad debt. How would they react to $14 million worth of bad (Suppan) debt?
  11. Liberals are experts at giving away other peoples money. Conversely, conservatives are experts at spending my money on war games. Precisely why I can't stand either one. I HIGHLY doubt a liberal agenda played into this ruling, and I know plenty of female conservatives. Turning to politics here seems like a huge stretch to me.
  12. Seems kind of hypocritical for the Brewers to be anti-stadium tax. I don't think the Brewers were able to get Cook County to pitch in for Miller Park, even though their residents frequent the establishment on a regular.
  13. Revenue sharing? Is that what people are calling it? So if you all give me 1% of your annual salary so I can fix up my home and do that kitchen remodel I want to do, we'll just call that revenue sharing. I promise to invite you all over for a barbecue when its all done, BYOB of course.
  14. He deserves it.
  15. This may sound lame, but tall, lanky guys typically have longer, loping strides when they run, making it look like they aren't trying hard. I'm not as tall as Corey, but I have long legs and had a long stride when I played sports back in the day. When I ran track, my mom always told me that I looked like I barely needed to put forth any effort. I assured her that my body told me otherwise. That could be it also.
  16. My problem with projecting Hart to be anywhere near .785 is the fact that he had 3/4 of a banner season and has fallen off dramatically since. Players who take the league by storm, then have the league figure them out, and subsequently drop way off for 2+ years often don't recover (see Bill Hall). If Hart hadn't gotten his walks up last year, his slash stats would look very ugly. I am not sure what to expect from Hart this year, but I have great doubts he will be anywhere near .800. Edit: I'm going to predict .320/.420/.740
  17. I was thinking this was his 3rd arby year, but you are right, its his 2nd. Whoops, I thought this was his 3rd year as well. Well, he has two years to prove his FA werth (spelled incorrectly to add pun).
  18. Maybe the reason he's been able to drop ~20 lbs. this offseason is that he's worked really hard in past offseasons to bulk up with muscle. I'm of the opinion that Hart busted his rump with the insanity workout because he knows its do or die time this year. Contract year? You bet!
  19. Like the police officer whom shouldn't write you a ticket because you already pay his salary with your taxes? I don't see how that is comparable. I don't pay taxes by choice or for my amusement. I don't mean to argue with you, I see your point. I see the other fan's point as well. Like it or not, Corey Hart (or his agent) is setting the stage for some tense moments if he struggles this year. Everyday people with everyday jobs will not back a player that rips fans for booing, thinks he is worth more than he is (regardless of whether he should get as much as possible), and tortures the crowd with country music before he bats.
  20. I don't understand where the implication that he might not give 100% comes from. Very often Hart looks like he is not giving 100% effort. It may just be his country, golly-gee-willikers style oozing out, but he appears doggish at times. At least to me anyway. I am not saying he doesn't give the effort.
  21. I hate this belief that "fans" think they are entitled to something other than rooting for their team. I hate to break this to you, but rooting for your team includes the occasional booing, especially in 2007. Show me a planet where fans don't boo when the team they paid money to go see was sucking it up. If only we were more like Europe, where we would get into giant brawls and spit on the under performing players as they walked off the field, then you really would have something to whine about. Now, since cheering/booing is my business that I paid for and subsidized Corey Harts salary with, and Corey Hart wants to tell me how to cheer, then he is getting into my business. Shut up and play! Maybe then people won't get on your case when a matter like this arises. People don't forget, and it festers. To whine and moan about the fan backlash is to whine and moan yourself. Understand the psychology of the masses and you will get it. Again, I'm not saying its right, just that I understand it.
  22. "supposed long term offer" Are you insinuating the offer was not real or somehow made up by malcontent fans? Why say things like this? I would never dream of writing on a public blog that I wished you'd take less money at your job. Good thing, because we don't have salary arbitrators here. Like I said, Corey can do whatever he wants, but to think that fans are just going to stay out of his business (especially when he got in the fans' business during the 2007 collapse) is unrealistic. Pro sports are as public as politics, and fans are just as passionate. I don't for one minute feel the need to defend Corey Hart in his pursuit for an extra $600k. Conversely I don't feel the need to slam him for letting his agent attempt to get paid an extra $30k or whatever. What I do hope for is the Brewers winning the arbitration hearing if it gets there. I like the Brewers way more than Corey Hart, and I am sure he is feeling the pressure coming into this year knowing he (or his agent, however you like to think of it) turned down set-for-life financial security in exchange for a chance at the mother load. Unfortunately for him, in this day and age, the mother load ain't what it used to be (Gary Matthews). Only special players are now allowed to cash in. Is Corey Hart a special player? I would consider placing a wager that he makes less in 2011 than he makes in 2010.
  23. Exactly, Corey keeps whining about how some fans don't like him and how he should make more money. Its all going to come down to him anyway. Put up numbers and get paid. Play like the last two years and fade. Its all up to Corey, not the Brewers or the fans or the media or....
  24. I know it isn't going to be a popular opinion and I doubt it happens, but I wouldn't mind cutting him at the end of ST if he isn't doing well. It could very well come back to bite us, but he is gone anyway after this year and that money could be so much better spent in my mind. FWIW, Its popular with me :D
  25. For his sake (and mine) I hope he's right. There's quite a few choices out there when picking a personal savior.
