  1. He said his favorite band is Tool on WSSP yesterday, so we have one thing in common. Now if I could only work on that $10 million a year salary thing, we could have TWO things in common.
  2. I'm not holding a grudge, I just don't have many fond "Cameron saves the day" memories. A great catch robbing the HR in CF was my fondest memory of him from 2009. Edit: to go with that catch I also have a memory of a ball getting by him and costing the Brewers the game. Give and take. I won't argue his production value, but I will argue that the Brewers (as a small market club) have more pressing needs. Had Hardy not gone fishin' last year, maybe the Brewers could have gotten pitching for him.
  3. would you like Cameron at around $8M, or money spent in other areas? Money spent in other areas. I thought Cameron was a decent CF for the Brewers, but I wasn't too attached. He seemed to disappoint me in big game moments more than he came through. He excelled in less tense moments of the game, but the "big hits" were too rare for me to latch onto him so much that I would take him over a SP or bullpen/experienced bench help. I know how some believe it doesn't matter when the production comes throughout the year, just so its there. But it does matter to me. I would take Wolf over Cameron at this juncture. The Brewers need pitching, not an aged CF.
  4. I would bet Morrow is going, along with either Saunders or Fields.
  5. The bigs are winning these players with insanely long-term deals. 5 years from now, there is no way Lackey is even close to a $17 million/year pitcher.
  6. Now this is what I call adding a difference maker. Very exciting for Phils fans, and way to go Jack Z. Toronto should file for transfer to another division. NY and the Sawx should have their own division together, Balt, TB, and Tor in a separate division.
  7. To compare the two is bogus IMO. But you just compared them http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. Mediocre means average to below average or the trending toward either. Wolf is not mediocre yet, but he could be with a couple of uninspired years of pitching. Hopefully being away from home does not create an uninspired Randy Wolf. The Suppan deal needs to be used as a benchmark for all future deals, in that Melvin better not make another one equally as bad or worse again as long as he is the Brewers GM.
  9. Best Justice piece I have read, which doesn't say much. Leveled, yet still reluctant to rip Wade. If you'd like to argue that Wade should have held onto the $4.5 million and hoped some starting pitching became available, you're thinking straight. The Astros badly need starting pitching and power, and those are two areas he hasn't improved. However, Wade's three acquisitons-Matt Lindstrom, Brandon Lyon and Feliz-will make about the same as Jose Valverde would have gotten in arbitration for 2010. With so little money to spend, Wade is plugging along as best he can. Wade declared it a ''good week'' for the Astros, and it may have been. But it probably didn't lead to a rush to the ticket windows. http://blogs.chron.com/sportsjustice/archives/2009/12/if_chris_johnso.html
  10. Does Richard Justice think this puts the Astros back on top in the Central?
  11. I think variance in performance vs. consistency is the great valuation question. And where you are willing to assume risk. I think this is where some of Doug Melvin's philosophies lie. He is not willing to assume a great deal of risk, mainly due to his financial and market restrictions. Bill Hall, Jeff Suppan, and David Riske (punny name) were all supposedly moderately risky deals, and he got burned on those. I doubt he is going to go after a Penney/Harden/Sheets type pitcher given the even greater propensity of getting burned at that intersection. The cost of risk is different for every ball club and every GM, and it cannot be conditioned into a formula that would tell you who the better option for every given team is. Wolf isn't a bad signing, but its nothing stellar either. This fits in line with where the risk factor is at with Melvin, and with how much they were willing to spend.
  12. Yeah, the fact that Wade is still employed as an MLB GM is fascinating in its own right. Michael Moore should do a documentary on this one.
  13. I'm not saying Wolf is as bad as Suppan, but the signing feels a little similar to me. At least the market on these guys has come down a little. If anything, the Wolf contract makes me that much more disappointed in the Suppan deal. Harden/Sheets/Penney are love/hate type of pitchers. You love them when they are dominating and effective, and you hate them when they have to hit the DL at what always seems like the worst time. Projections aside, the high risk of a Harden type pitcher drives down his asking price regardless of projected/forecasted values. As we all know, its impossible to tell how many innings any of these pitchers will actually pitch next year. The only thing we know for sure are the risk factors. Harden is too risky for me to appreciate his value when pitching well, as is Sheets ($12 for one year... LOL). I am always left wondering when, not if, they will be heading to the DL.
  14. Isn't a cut fastball easy on the shoulder? I suspect that it was the increased workload that got him. It seems like sometimes it is just bad luck also.I'm not sure that any pitch is easy on the shoulder, but I would go with increased workload and bad luck. Good points.
  15. I was pretty much expecting this. I wonder if his new pitch ruined his shoulder.
  16. I really hope Dayton Moore doesn't bail out the Cubs by accepting Milton Bradley for Gil Meche.
  17. I love Miller Park just that much more after seeing what they can build for the same type of cash now. The Wiki page for Target Field says the new stadium has zero obstructed seats... those left field bleachers look obstructed to me (unless they plan on lowering the middle section). HOK Sport hit big with Camden, AT&T, and then PNC. I'm not so sure Target is going to get as much praise as those fields. Hope they are ready for a boatload of double-headers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_Field
  18. I have listened to every single broadcast team, and while Bill and Brian are clearly not the worst, they are not in the top tier either. Maybe it is the FSN influence, and the attempt to cater to the casual fan. However my wife is a casual fan, and she finds them extremely annoying as well. I don't really mention my annoyance when watching, but she lets me know what annoys her. I usually feel the same way. I don't feel fortunate to have Anderson, and as I already stated would rather not have any PBP vs. listen to Anderson. I would feel the same way with 75% of all other announcers. Joe Buck doesn't annoy me, but I don't have to listen to him 120+ times a year either. Probably more like 30x a year.
  19. Seems like Schroeder make fun of Anderson's lack of knowledge too. I feel this way almost every game. The praise for Anderson is astounding to me, because I don't even get the feeling he is a baseball guy. In addition, he is constantly talking. Sometimes there is just nothing more to say, and silence would be the best option. I like the Buck/McCarver combo because they know when to quiet down and let the action speak to the audience. I would love it if FSN would offer an announcer muted channel. I would rather just listen to the sounds of the game than Anderson telling me for the hundredth time what Ryan Braun did the night before, or that a base hit will tie the game, or that one more strike will get him out of the inning. He's always talking.
  20. If history has taught us one thing, its that we do not like to deal with things until crisis strikes. Status quo is very popular, so until teams start debunking the quo, there will be no material changes to the protocol.
  21. Unfortunate indeed. Also funny was how the worst pitcher in the league won that game to keep him from being the best pitcher in the league.
  22. I don't think small market teams can get fair value for guys like Prince because big market clubs basically say, "Fine, we'll wait until free agency and you can get a couple draft picks instead." This is the problem... big market teams can just buy at free agency without having to worry about whether that player will produce a surplus value, in a sense driving up the fair value of free agents. Small market teams have to weigh what they believe to be fair value and whether they can get that out of two unproven, hopefully average players. The scales are not balanced, therefore what Prince Fielder is worth to one team is not the same as he is worth to another. Sadly, this means that Price Fielder is not worth as much to the Brewers as he will be to the Red Sox, Angels or wherever he may end up. When you can say that two average players will get you equal value to one Prince Fielder, I get sad. It just doesn't seem possible. Good thing we have places to go to tell us that http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Edit: 6 yr/$130 million (even though that alienates Ryan Braun)
  23. Had Wainwright gotten more run support during his last start, they would not have. Didn't they get him 6 runs? The bullpen blew that game.
  24. True classy baseball players get high and die in their hotel rooms Too far, I expected better. Pretty sure Halladay didn't win anything? Oh you mean the best pitcher in the NL who pitches in a huge pitchers park and faces the weakest offenses in baseball. I don't think the Rockies and Dodgers offenses are the weakest in the league.
  25. Way to class down this award.
