  1. Jerry Royster had a philosophy? I don't recall, but then again that year is completely blocked by my horrible Brewers filter.
  2. $6 million for a soon to be 36 year-old (maybe?) 3B in serious decline, with linkage to PEDs seems to be an overpay for the Orioles. Then again, that organization has had trouble spending wisely for some time now.
  3. Not that it matters much, but I think the Brewers have improved enough for me to be excited for the season again. Sure would stink to be a Royals fan though.
  4. I would imagine in the dome it will get much worse. Good thing for Hardy the Twins don't play in the Humpty Dump anymore.
  5. This is exactly why the Suppan signing will go down as one of the greatest blunders in Brewers history. Its not often you see the blunder not completely play out before its already etched in the blunder HOF. But this one deserves its place way on top of the list, probably for good unless Wendy somehow gains control of the team again.
  6. Good signing. While it doesn't excite me, it soooooooooothes me. Runners are going to have a tough time swiping bases against the Brewers this year.
  7. JohnBriggs12, thanks for sharing. That definitely would have been my favorite Brewer moment had I been there and remembered it.
  8. Per Tom Haudricourt, "One thing to remember, folks: These one-year arbitration contracts are not guaranteed, meaning the players can be cut in spring training with the club obligated to only a fraction of the money." I learned something today, I had no idea this was the case. I thought all MLB contracts were guaranteed.
  9. Will he be advising which coffee to have in the clubhouse? How long before he is manager?
  10. That site holds everything constant besides defined eras in baseball, and attempts to stratify power results without certain events having effect on the numbers. Its a nice attempt, and it looks like someone put in a good deal of effort, but it is hardly scientific or conclusive. More conclusive results would be to look at Barry Bonds home run totals before and after he became a Sosa/McGwire jealous maniac. Sosa, Brady Anderson, Mark McGwire, etc. Real life studies have been conducted, and there should be absolutely no doubt in anyone's mind that PED's were helping these players hit more home runs for longer periods of time.
  11. If you think Selig never cared about MLB players using steroids, then you obviously don't know much about Bud Selig.
  12. http://www.mcgwire.com/picturearchive/simpsons/simp1.jpg "Do you want to know the terrifying truth, or do you want to see me sock a few dingers?" Most of you know how the Springfieldians replied. Might be at the root of why I never really latched onto The Simpsons.
  13. I would have been happy had he just been honest with himself and with the fans. Its all so transparent, yet he still tries to put on an act. He was trying to cleanse, but only made it worse by layering another act onto his charade.
  14. After listening to the interview, I could not agree with myself any more at this point that this is all agenda driven. If McGwire really thinks he would have hit that many home runs without roids, he is lying to himself. I can't see how he really believes that, and in saying he believes it is once again lying to baseball fans. The whole thing is a sham, and he even admits that when he said he's doing it for him. I feel sicker than if he would have just kept his mouth shut. What is wrong with these guys? Do they really think the fans are stupid?
  15. And now Selig throws in his two cents. This whole thing reeks of human manipulation.
  16. Personally, I don't think he is sorry for any of it. The roids made him millions of dollars. I have no doubt he would do it all over again if he knew the final outcome. This is all agenda driven. From his shiny new high paying cush job to his campaign to be elected to the HOF. The timing (day after first round of NFL playoffs) made it easy for him to do this, but it also should allow most people to see right through to his true intentions.
  17. Big Mac didn't have a choice here. He wanted to come back and collect a pay check, and I have no doubt this was part of the deal. Completely orchestrated. While I appreciate him manning up and owning his past, the comments coming out of the Cards organization, and LaRussa more specifically, are geared toward creating sympathy for McGwire and his actions. The following "class" is as transparent as it comes, and is completely agenda driven. "No one on the teams I managed worked harder or better than Mark. And now, his willingness to admit mistakes, express his regret, and explain the circumstances that led him to use steroids add to my respect for him. I've defended Mark because I observed him develop his unique power hitting skill through a rigorous physical and fundamental workout program. He has a lot to offer our team as our hitting coach. We look forward to his being part of the 2010 Cardinals." - LaRussa
  18. Deferring salary... the American way. We WANT it now, but don't have money for it... hmmmmm... we'll pay you later, how about that? So this is what teams are going to have to do to keep up with the Jones' (NY, Boston, etc).
  19. That's because you are thinking like a fan, not like a GM of of a professional baseball team. That could be because I am a fan, and not actually a GM (nor to I attempt to perpetrate one). If I was a GM, I would think... "Matt, $120 million smackers sound good for 7 years? Yes? Well OK then, don't drop any more fly balls in the playoffs, cool? Great, welcome back." However, if I was GM of, say, the Milwaukee Brewers, it would be more like... "Matt, $70 million smackers sound good for 5 years? No? Well fine, go play for the Cardinals then."
  20. Pretty amazing the Cards gave that much money to the guy that cost them game two in the NLDS. Of course he is a great hitter, but I am personally happy that goat stayed in St. Louis.
  21. The pitching can't be any worse than it was last year While I want to agree with this, I wish it would stop being said. It COULD be worse, and that would be disaster.
  22. We can hope they put Silva into the rotation, but even if they do he will not last long. If he appears in just one game against the Brewers I will take it. Now only if I could feel the same way about the Brewers rotational wart.
  23. Nah, Suppan still looks very, very bad.
  24. Silva better NOT be a Brewer killer this year. He can however be a Cardinal killer.
  25. $9M going to Cubs w/ Silva. 670 The Score.
