  1. This is impossible to quantify, mainly because the players have to win the game. Yost could have brought in Mota in the 12th, and Mota could have subsequently gone out and given up back-to-back homeruns. However, it is the manager's job to make sound decisions during the game. I would not be going too far out on a limb to say the majority of the 25,000 Brewer fans in attendance thought he was not doing his job in the 12th inning on 6/14. In the 11th Yost was sitting on a 16 with Tavarez, doubled down and got a 5. That doesn't mean you should do it again, ever. But to answer your question: the manager does not win games, so zero for me on that one. I would say Yost has cost the Brewers 2 wins so far this year (Rockies and Reds), while helping them to lose on several occasions.
  2. There have been a lot of 'gems' to fall from his lips. Its a daily occurrence unfortunately.
  3. Link Mota had pitched two innings in Houston on Wednesday and another on Thursday and Yost thought he needed another night off. Yost would have gone to Mota had the game made it to the 13th inning, but didn't want to use him beforehand. "He was the last guy I was going to use," said Yostg[sic]. "I felt like he could use one more day off. "I was trying to win this game. I don't think about tomorrow at all in that situation." Tavarez had escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the 11th and Yost hoped he'd get lucky again in the 12th. What kills me is the last line from Yost, it doesn't make any sense at all.
  4. If, come, maybe, howsoever, then, but, perhaps You forgot the period. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. Hank Steinbrenner is a rich baby. Grow up Hank and join reality. The baseball world does not revolve around your team, unless of course you take ESPN's word for it.
  6. Mota was warming up earlier in the game, hence available (Ned later claimed he planned on using Mota in the 16th after Julian got him 5 good innings or something like it). I would argue DiFilece was a better option than Tavarez in the 12th, but not the best option. Dillard was available, who should have pitched on Thursday in the 8th of a 4-run led day-game following a night game in which Mota pitched 2 innings, which subsequently made Mota not as available on Saturday. How's that for run-on.
  7. Show me an instance where Francona left an aging, gassed reliever in to lose a game in the 12th inning after: he barely escaped the previous inning, had loaded the bases with no outs in the current inning (2 runners walked back-to-back), and 3 available arms in the bullpen. Find something like this, and I will concede the argument on Ned Yost being just as good of a manager. What makes me sad at this point is I pretty much expect this type of in-game management from Yost. It was frustrating beyond all recognition. Still I was not surprised to see him, one foot on the dugout stairs thinking about the chances Dale Jr. has of winning the Sunday NASCAR race, do absolutely nothing.
  8. Brewers, I beg of you, please do not let Kevin Mench drive in the game-winning run ala Wes Helms (2). Please!!!
  9. The apple sure doesn't fall very far from the tree does it.
  10. In both those instances I tried to show how both of them have shown no more genius than Ned. The only argument I heard on Francona was his W-L record wasn't very good in Philly. This doesn't show how he is less genius than Ned. I would never in a million lifetimes call Ned Yost a great manager. A great manager doesn't let what happened on 6/14 to occur without at least trying. Ned didn't even try to stop the bleeding. Tavarez bled out and Yost just sat there, didn't even call 911. Best I could ever see myself describing Ned Yost is "serviceable."
  11. My dad's name is Richard, but his friends call him Dick.
  12. Forget the kool-aid, stop drinking the water! Someone should change the title of this thread to, "Bad vibes on Brewerfan."
  13. Too bad Melvin couldn't have shipped Bill Hall to Seattle before this happened. Now the options are really thin.
  14. Not having the batter acknowledge seems rather stupid to me. -- You don't want your batter swinging away with a vulnerable runner heading down the line. Exhibit BZ.
  15. Granted I think Hart lost the game, but Ned Yost is an awful manager no question.
  16. I understand how some of the comments here have been brutal, but as for Enron doing less harm on society than Miller Beer... tell that to the thousands of people who lost their entire retirement savings, and thousands of additional investors that lost a ton of money and confidence. The only group to benefit from Enron was the accounting industry (SOX boom). Now unfortunately all those people can afford is the High Life, gross. And, Budweiser and Coors are really not that much different. Mass produced domestic/imported beers are all the same... crappy. Heineken is gross, but they make you feel like its not with their marketing. At least Miller doesn't substitute the barley for rice (Bud). Lastly, thanks to MMP for turning the Brewers into fence swinging morons again. I do appreciate it.
  17. Bill Hall, you owe the team 6 runs. Feel free to start paying up any day now. However, I will be shocked if he is in the lineup tomorrow. I would rather see the Hurricane get a start, but I fear Dillon will be playing 2nd. I am going to the game tomorrow, and I usually don't boo Brewers. But I might make an exception for Bill Hall. If I was a GM for any other team, I wouldn't give up a bag of magic beans for him right now.
  18. Its been a rough season for Hall. Maybe we can stop doing half hour documentaries on his pink bat game for a couple years.
  19. Bill Schroeder is the worst color guy ever. I don't blame Darren for getting a new partner.
  20. Time to be like Kobe and down grab some wine, maybe some beer, some shots... like 20 of them and forget this game ever happened.
  21. Bill Hall and his half a tin of chew look like they could care less about his suckitude.
  22. The faces Ned Yost makes in the dugout enrage me. He even looks like a complete idiot.
  23. Bill Hall reminds me of Wesley "Willie Mays Hayes" Snipes... he thinks he's way better than he actually is.
  24. I'm thinking about cancelling mine after this crap. P.S. For those with cable, that is how Cameron USED to be able to play CF.
