Minneapolis metro is 3.6 million. Milwaukee Metro is 1.6 million. The Brewers have a big market outside of just Milwaukee Metro. They're a lot more Wisconsin's team than Milwaukee's team. Couldn't the same be said on Minnesota?

I get players thinking they can get away with taking steroids but how can a team think it can get away with something that takes so many players involvement to make it worthwhile. All it takes is one player who feels slighted by the team or too honest and the whole house of cards falls down. Hell it doesn't even take that. All the motivation a player needs is the desire not to be the victim of said cheating. Why would anyone think every player who ever knew about it wouldn't say something after they leave?

Sometimes kids have to fly and they can't be expected to act like adults. I was on a flight to Europe with a baby who cried the entire trip. The mother seemed, for lack of a better word, ashamed by it. I was across the isle from her, when we made eye contact I always smiled to reassure her I sympathized with her. Some people gave her dirty looks but I felt kids crying is something parents can't always prevent so why make them feel worse? I don't have the same sympathy for parents who let kids listen to movies or music without headphones.

While picking up some of our equipment from New Years eve event I found out it only went until 11pm. Apparently they started doing that because hardly nobody ever stayed until midnight. Obviously not a place for the younger crowd.

I'll believe in team's claims of poverty when they open the books and show us. That said, I don't need the Brewers to open the books for me to know they cannot compete with the Cubs, Dodgers, Red Sox or Yankees. All that would happen if they tried to compete with them would be players would get paid more by the Cubs, Dodgers, Red Sox and Yankees. I'm not necessarily against that. After all, I don't really care if the Cubs pay Jason Heyward an extra $20 million per year to be average or Yu Darvish to sit out with another injury but it won't get the Brewers the top end players they may want.

I'd say that this offseason further solidifies the idea of Stearns as being 100% about the value, and (Like I talked about in the "recreating in the aggregate" bit) not thinking about the roster in terms of specific positions, or starters and bench players. Not focusing on replacing an allstar 3B/C combo, but on replacing the runs and wins they contributed. This is spot on. XISXISXIS still has a tag about this from from JosephC a few years ago. I was sort of mocking Stearns moves at the trade deadline but it demonstrates your point on how Stearns operates very well. Considering we went on to have the best record in the NL that season, in no small part because of those moves, I think the idea you so very aptly laid out is a promising way to go about roster building. It's also why I'm not nearly as worried about starting pitching as most people seem to be. We didn't have the best starters the last two years but we had a better record than a lot of teams who had better starting pitching.

I wanted depth over a few big acquisitions so I couldn't be happier with how this off season is going. Depth got us to the playoffs last season. Without depth we would have been toast when the injuries hit and when Aguillar and Shaw sucked rocks. It was depth that allowed the team to put up one of the best months in Brewer history despite one of the best players in all of baseball being out with a season ending injury. If Stearns does bring in someone like Donaldson or Ryu I wouldn't mind at this point. I just didn't want them to be brought in at the expense of depth.

Seems to me the fastest way to lose in the summer is to win in the winter.

That is exactly why I like this deal. I would rather pay two guys of his caliber than pay the same money for one great player. Depth is important. Especially when the farm is lacking in upper level talent at the moment. It might be an overpay compared to the last couple free agent seasons but not so much this one. Even if it is slightly overpriced for what he produces, a mid-level deal like this means it's maybe a million or two over for two years instead of 10 million over value over five or more years.

Dear Mother, Today my true love sent me two more birds and another partridge in a pear tree. I had no idea what the two new birds were so I googled it. Apparently they are turtle doves. I also have no idea what to do with them. Between the four birds there is an awful lot of feathers and poop in my apartment. He must really love birds. I love him, so guess I'll just have to get used to birds in my life. Do you still have that cage we kept my parakeet in as a child? I could really use it about now. Love you, talk to you tomorrow.

Dear Mother, I met someone I truly love. He said he is on the spectrum, whatever that is, and promised to send me a gift every day of Christmas. The first day was...unusual. He sent me a partridge in a pear tree. It's winter so there is no way to plant the pear tree soooo. I have no idea what to do with the partridge since I live in a no pet apartment but I love how whimsical he is. I'll let you know what tomorrow brings.

How is making the playoffs deemed not working out? Because I believe there are 25 guys on a roster (more than that make an impact every year I suppose). Just because a a bunch of them did, doesn’t mean all 25 were automatically a success. I guess Travis Shaw worked out? We made the WC game. I didn’t say the team didn’t work out, I was speaking purely towards the opening day rotation. He made great additions, but let’s not ignore we could have had Lyles and Gio the entire season etc. He constructed a poor rotation to start the season, it just wasn’t good. He gave young unproven guys a chance and 2/3 were total flops. All I am saying is I hope he constructs a rotation this year that is actually good from the start and we don’t lose countless games for months trotting out 7 ERA pitchers until we give up on them and/or use assets to replace them. Outside of September the first month of the season, when the staff sucked rocks, was probably the best month of the season. I fail to see how you can argue we lost all those games when we in fact didn't lose many games early in the season. When we started to lose more game it was due to injury not how the rotation was constructed. Going further the rotation was built on the cheap because they spent money elsewhere. As it turns out that wasn't such a bad idea because we still managed to get into the playoffs despite a fairly significant number of key injuries. It also wasn't like we got lucky and had a bunch of career years to bail us out. There was probably more disappointing performances than better than expected ones. The way the team was constructed, not just the starting rotation, worked. You can't just look at the weakest link and blame all the losses on that. The team was built with an eye to how it would work as a whole not as a bunch of separate parts.
