  1. I have no idea if he would be a fit or not, but the Brewers could compete with the Dodgers money if they traded away one of Gallardo/Lohse/Garza and go cheap with 1B. That, and you figure he is replacing ARam (saving $) in 2016, the money is there. You are obviously playing with fire with the starting staff, but I think you need to take a risk if you want to get over the hump. Hanley is a truly great talent. Something tells me the Yankees will be competing for SS talent in the free agent market. Hanley has earned $15 million+ each of the last three years and a team would need to outbid LA & NY for a 31 year old SS. A tall price and roll of the dice. Personally I'd prefer Segura at $534K and spend that money elsewhere. With a great (or even very good) next 5 years Hanley could play his way into discussions of being a top 5 all-time SS, his career 131 OPS+ would rank him 4th all-time among SS if he retired today, behind just Honus Wagner, A-Rod and Arky Vaughan
  2. Not to overstate the obvious but what a huge game tonight with so many implications. Will be fascinating to watch on so many levels. And yes I want to see some inside pitches to Yadier, just to see the death stare
  3. No kidding, huh?! I think at the age of 32, JJ is past his prime, too... HR's and SLG % is way down, OBP at .319, OPS+ below 100 three years in a row.... no way am I paying $7-$11 million per year for that kind of production
  4. He might need to be replaced because he is not a gritty veteran.
  5. Great game, great fun watching it and then great fun reading the 1st page of this IGT!!!! Go Brewers!
  6. There is no way the players feel that way. They are pro athletes who have thousands of baseball games under their belt
  7. I agree 100% Segura in the 2nd half this year has a .259 BA & .323 OBP (not All-Star worthy but certainly strong enough for a great defensive player who brings speed on the bases) In the last 28 days Segura is hitting .295 with a .394 BA I like the fact that he is walking more, it shows a maturation with his approach at the plate, although admittedly some of that is because he is hitting 8th I think Segura is a great talent.... at the very worst he can be a fantastic utility man/RH platoon with Scooter.... at the best he'll be our starting SS (and a very good one) until he signs with the Yankees in 2019
  8. Congrats! You could probably sell that foul ball that Frazier hit, in Toms River NJ for $500 but I'd advise keeping it
  9. Matt Lepay was on the radio this morning in Madison talking about how difficult it is for MLB front offices to judge AAA talent like Clark. It is tough to know whether they are merely AAAA talent who go up & down from the majors to minors and back, or legit players who can give MLB teams solid seasons.... Given how fleetingly small the samples are for these types of players as managers go with the "hot hands", I recognize that the difference between a guy sticking in MLB or going 0 for 7 and never being back again can be extremely small.....
  10. Not a bad start at all for Matt Clark (3 HR's in his first 16 at-bats, and an .813 SLG %) Is this guy our 1B of the future? He's 27 years old this year meaning he'll be in his prime years from 2015-2017 or so.... Is there any way to have him on our playoff roster? And finally, what took the Brewers front office so long to get him to MLB?
  11. Tough game to lose as we could've gained a game on Pittsburgh Still just 1.5 games out of the wildcard.... 2 hits all game is pretty ugly!
  12. Personally I think the Marlins that held back Casey McGehee should be awarded medals of valor for saving an umpire's life
  13. http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2014/9/12/6141895/anthony-desclafani-suspended-mike-fiers-fined-marlins-brewers-giancarlo-stanton Completely ridiculous and utterly absurd
  14. Well, just have the players say they are having a very difficult time paying attention, and then you can get a doctor's note and not even risk suspension
  15. I'm telling you, there is some very strange/weird juju/karma going on with the Brewers these days. Bruce Seid passing away, the Spring Training facility in AZ getting flooded out, and now what happened to Stanton today (plus that bizarre losing streak....) crazy crazy crazy couple of weeks for the Brewers organization
  16. And since May 19th he has a .335 OBP and an .855 OPS. Whatever Narron did to him in Spring Training completely messed him up, and it took him 6 weeks go get back to his old self (of taking walks and hitting extra base hits) I'm fine giving Braun and Davis a day off per week and starting Parra vs RHP.... but Davis has been better than Braun at the plate since May. Thanks, didn't realize that stat since May 19th and I very much appreciate the perspective Considering that, I would say you are correct. (Just noticed that Parra is starting tonight in LF and Davis is sitting)
  17. For whatever reason, I'm really looking forward to tonight's game. More than any other game in quite awhile, actually. I'm intrigued to see if the Brewers can actually turn their season around, and Mike Fiers has become one of my favorite players. This whole last month, removing any emotional attachment I have towards the Brewers, has been somewhat fascinating to watch (for me at least). The Brewers simply cannot be as bad as they've played in the last 20 games..... how much they can turn it around remains to be seen, but there was an extra spark there last night
  18. Are you looking at OPS+? Davis is at 115 for OPS+ right now. His 15-20 points over Parra's career norms are overcome by Parra's superior defense and what is looking like evidence that Davis cannot hit RHP at an "average" level. Really both of them would be much more valuable in a straight platoon
  19. One more thing I wanted to add about Parra: he's 27 years old. He's not some older veteran whose game has passed him by. If anything he is just coming into his prime. His career stats vs RHP dictate that at the very least he should never ever sit vs RHP .288 BA, .336 OBP, .426 SLG, .762 OPS Especially when you factor in his defense Parra was a 5.5 WAR player in 2013. The game hasn't just somehow passed him by, as evidenced by how he's playing in the last month (or really by how he's played with the Brewers, period) Davis has a 2.7 WAR this year. But he's leading the Brewers in HR's so he's more valuable!
  20. I recognize that Parra has a .310 OBP this season if you include his AZ stats.... however I think he has returned to his career norms as a Brewer
  21. I think Khris Davis is getting really overrated. He has a .308 OBP this year! I'd like to see Davis sit once or twice a week vs RHP and Parra start in his place, however when that happens Parra should be in RF & Braun in LF. Parra is light years a better defensive player than Braun. Davis hits .274 with a .323 OBP vs LHP Davis hits .244 with a .303 OBP vs RHP Davis is a much much worse defensive player than Parra Davis leads the Brewers in HR. This over reliance/weight the front office puts on the HR stat is part of the bigger picture problem the Brewers have. Mark Reynolds is a prime example of that Parra gives the Brewers so much more value vs RHP than Davis Honestly with Braun's injury and the way he has played in the 2nd half, Parra is easily the 2nd most valuable Outfielder the Brewers have vs RHP, and it could be argued that he's the 2nd best OF, period. I think Parra should be starting almost every game. Once or twice a week vs RHP to give Davis a rest, once or twice a week to give Braun a rest, and once a week to give Gomez a day off
  22. I sincerely believe RRR has overused & abused an elite talent in Will Smith. Smith would be much more valuable if he pitched less. He was lights out in the 1st half until he got overused That speaks to problem #1 in my opinion, which is that a change is needed in the Manager. Either they need a new Manager or RRR needs to change his ways or the Brewers need a ton more bullpen depth so that RRR doesn't just take a couple of guys and wear them out. Or, they need more starting pitchers who can get into the 8th inning Something needs to change
  23. So he can only hit lefties if they are starters? He, like most ballplayers, hits a pitcher better when he can see them multiple times in a game
