  1. Thought Braun was dogging it a little on that play at the plate. Not sure why he didn't slide either
  2. Honestly I think we'd be better off moving Carlos Gomez to SS than moving Braun to 1B. Not kidding
  3. Hopefully Coulter can stick at 3B. I thought I read that Coulter will be playing 3B in 2015
  4. the more I think about it, the more I think Braun would be worse, defensively, than Prince Fielder at 1B. And that is pretty bad
  5. Another ugly at-bat by Ramirez. He's been, overall, great during his time in Milwaukee, but I hope the Brewers don't have him on the roster in 2015
  6. Maybe we should just move Braun to SS, he played SS in college
  7. I believe this thread represents part of why this franchise won't take significant steps forward. If many of the non-casual fans think things are pretty good, then the casual fans will keep turning up at Miller Park regardless of whether Melvin/RRR are brought back and regardless if significant personnel changes happen And if attendance isn't effected, then Mark A won't really be motivated to change much. The real answer as to how do we (we being the fans) turn this franchise around is: stop going to games, stop buying merchandise. Considering that most of the Brewers fans are hard partyin' tail gating casual Baseball fans, things aren't going to change
  8. still watching here.... will keep watching the Postseason even if the Brewers don't make it. Football is boring me more than ever lately
  9. That is a big part of it. Players with long swings, swinging for the HR most of the time, jumping all over the first pitch, and not working the count are all going to be "streaky" ballplayers. You can have a few players like that on a team, but almost an entire team's worth is just plain not smart on the GM's part Lucroy is a notable exception to all of that. Trading for Parra was a step in the right direction.
  10. Wily Peralta, Yovanni Gallardo, Mike Fiers, Jimmy Nelson, Jake Odorizzi, even Jeremy Jeffress all came up through the Brewers minor league system. I wouldn't call that a "complete lack of development". Maybe not as much development as we'd like, but I don't believe that the minor league coaching is the problem
  11. True. I suppose I should have said that a .778 OPS is kinda dismal for $12 million ($15 million due in 2015)
  12. Lord have mercy I'd be all over Gomez for Harper. I cannot in my wildest imagination see any scenario why Washington would do that trade but I'd love it! We would have Bryce for 4 seasons before he went off to be a Yankee in 2019.
  13. Fixed. well played, sir, well played
  14. I'm still watching the painful debacle. It is like driving past a car wreck. Can't turn away
  15. I could see that: they keep most of the team as is, and go bigtime after Pablo Sandoval & Adam LaRoche, promote the team as contenders and still finish in 3rd or 4th place
  16. I like 'stache's mention of the 60's/70's Orioles An important factor of the Oriole's 70's success and '83 World Series win was the use of platoons in several positions. Gary Roenicke & John Lowenstein were hardly household names but when platooning together they provided a lot of production. The Brewers would be wise to put Khris Davis in a platoon. He doesn't hit RHP well, he isn't an elite prospect and until he is elite it'd be better to have a LH OF taking those spots vs RHP.... and that is just one example
  17. Thank you, The 'stache, for your thoughts and excellent posts, I agree with you 100% In retrospect, several of the trades that have been made have not worked out at all. How much better would this franchise be if Michael Brantley, Nelson Cruz, Jake Odorizzi, Loronzo Cain were all still here? Even Brett Lawrie would be great as a platoon partner for Scooter and playing at 3B. Yes, hindsight is 20/20 but the general premise is that if you continually trade away your top prospects you should have some World Series appearances to show for it. My concern is that if Melvin remains the GM he will trade away Clint Coulter & Monte Harrison for a short term rental of some other "name player" who will help push a fringe team into a one & done in the playoffs team. And it isn't worth it I will always remain a Brewers fan but instead of going to 10-15 games a season I'll continue my current pace of going to 1 or 2 and just watching them on TV until there is a complete change of GM/Manager etc
  18. My dream acquisition would be Victor Martinez, yes he's 35 but he can flat out rake.... pretty unlikely to happen though He's just about the only real difference maker out there. Adam LaRoche will be 35 and had a pretty dismal 2nd half.... anyone else? http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/league-info/potential-free-agents-for-2015/
  19. Seems to me that what we heard during the winter from Doug Melvin was that he really liked the team and if everyone stayed healthy they could contend. He said they just had to fix the 1B spot and add some bullpen arms and other than that they couldn't think of any other position that needed improvement http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/doug-melvin-expected-a-quiet-off-season-for-brewers-b99180877z1-239778811.html
  20. Gerardo Parra has hit .323 in the last 28 days, .303 in the 2nd half while Ryan Braun has hit .226/.295 in the 2nd half, .259/.326 in the last 28 days.... not an easy decision to bench Braun for Parra but one that should've been made more often vs RHP Of course Khris Davis struggles to hit RHP too
  21. Jonathon Lucroy has hit .319/.402 in the last 28 days and .286/.353 in the 2nd half Carlos Gomez has hit .284/.375 in the last 28 days Aramis Ramirez has hit .300/.341 in the 2nd half.... he has slumped in the last 28 days
  22. Last night had to have been one of the last straws for Roenicke/Melvin. Why exactly was Hector Gomez starting? Because he had a bloop single the night before to drive in a run? Going with the "hot hand"? And conversely, if he was good enough to start in such a key game why wasn't he up months ago? Meanwhile "veteran grittiness" forgot how many outs there were! If there was ever an exclamation point as to why the Melvin/RRR way of doing things doesn't work, last night was plain and clear. They are both great people, I like them sincerely as individuals, they are pros who know Baseball, but this ship is reeling and we need new leadership
