  1. Too bad UWGB won't add Baseball. To have only one D1 Baseball team in Wisconsin is sad.
  2. If I was going to spend money on relief pitching, without studying everything in depth, I sure like Familia. I think Stearns might be able to trade for Treinen from the A's....
  3. Great post! Strongly agree. I also doubt the Brewers look at Jennings or Cedeno as high priorities either. LHP will indeed be one of the main components of roster that the Brewers look to shore up this offseason. I could see Miley coming back, maybe, although somebody might overpay for him. Gio is more doubtful
  4. Dozier is below average on defense, that is for sure... My guess is that moving forwards, Donaldson's hitting will be somewhat like Ryan Braun 2017/2018
  5. I'm not sure why the Braves would trade Camargo. He is exactly the type of young controllable multi positional player that every team seems to want. But hey, if the Braves are dumb enough to trade him, I'd be all for it. Definitely an upgrade over Hernan, who I do like. Maybe we can fleece them with an older pitcher like Anderson or Davies for Camargo plus prospects. But the Braves aren't that dumb, are they?
  6. I'd be thrilled to get the 2016 Donaldson, but without a time machine I think it is unlikely he'll ever return to playing like that. If Doug Melvin was still around I could the Brewers making exactly that type of move. Melvin always seemed a year or two late & a dollar short on his free agent attempts. Stearns, however, will be much more likely to unearth some RH bat that most of us have never heard of, who will be under age 28 and ready for his prime years. We'll give up somebody like Davies for him and a lot of us in the trade thread will decry the stupidity of it all....
  7. HiAndTight, thanks for the write up, that's good stuff. Interesting thought on trading Chacin. That would be a great example of selling high on a player, something that the Doug Melvin era Brewers never ever did. Although he hurt his trade value in the postseason a little, Jeffress is a player the Brewers could also sell high on. We've seen how teams will overpay for relief pitching. Look at his much they got for Thornburg, for instance. I think Stearns will surprise a lot of Brewers fans over the winter by trading away what many will think of as "key pieces" of the 25 man roster for prospects, as well as ( similar to the Cain signing) bringing in players many of us aren't expecting.
  8. Chase Anderson to the Padres, or Angels for prospects makes sense to me I could see Sonny Gray becoming a Brewer, but doubt it is a high priority for Stearns.
  9. Anderson seems like the type of pitcher who would thrive more in a pitcher's park like San Diego or Miami. I think he'll be traded to somebody for prospects. Davies & Thames will likely be traded too
  10. Moving Braun back to hitting 3rd was the right move, but it was more a reflection of not having a better choice, than any sort of affirmation of Braun's resurgence. I'd have to look, but I'm fairly sure that (based on season stats) Braun was the worst 3 hole hitter among any postseason team this year.
  11. Ryan Braun hit .246/.336/.523 vs LHP in 2018. He is well into his decline, and should not be hitting in the top half of the lineup unless the Brewers continue to struggle to have RH power in the lineup. I'd prefer not to overpay for one year of Goldschmidt, and doubt Stearns would go that route. I do like the thinking though because we really do need upgrades in RH power. Aguilar hit .245/.324/.436 in the 2nd Half of 2018. That is terrible. The lack of RH power on the roster is a real & legit problem. I don't know if Domingo Santana is the answer, but he sure looked good in his small sample of action in SEPT/OCT. He certainly deserves a lot of looks in Spring Training. Yes, he is. But I think it'd take a heckuva lot more than Jesus to get Paul.
  12. Very slight chance that Moose accepts the mutual option based on a soft market for him & the fact that he likes playing for the Brewers. Not extremely likely though.
  13. Stearns will continue to find ways to leverage maximum production out of underutilized assets. I see him continuing to build an elite bullpen and getting Counsell to utilize them in ways that are at next level analytics. He also has some players he can trade to help restock the farm system. He will also continue to look for hitters who are more in the realm of Cain/Yelich and not 3TO hitters
  14. Yes, of all of the moves by Stearns this one was the one that backfired. Is Schoop returning in 2019? We should have gone for a starting pitcher instead. I can't see him coming back. He's the opposite of the type of hitter they need to sustain this offense. I've seen enough undisciplined hackers this year to last a lifetime. It's can't be Cain, Yelich and then a bunch of "all-or-nothing" again next year. I can't bring myself to get too into "next year" just yet, but if Keston Hiura turns out to be legit, he'll be a hitter who makes consistent contact similar to Cain & Yelich. Agree we need more of those types
  15. Have to agree with Stache & Mr TPlush here. This was a wasted opportunity. An opportunity that comes along very rarely. There is reason to be optimistic about next year but next year is not guaranteed to even be a good season. They had one game at home to get a W and go to the World Series, and couldn't get it done. This one will hurt for the rest of my lifetime.
  16. It has probably been mentioned in the IGT earlier but I don't understand what Jeffress or Cedeno have shown in the last 2-3 weeks to make you think that is who you go with in the high leverage situation of a Game 7! If the logic of the game is to use Hader in the 3rd, then the next pitchers in have to be Knebel & Woodruff after that. I put this squarely on Counsell for messing up this game. You can argue all you want that the Brewers only got 1 run so it doesn't matter, but the reality is that a 2-1 game puts a lot more pressure on the Dodgers than a 5-1 game. Counsell ended up getting only one inning from Knebel in a Game 7. That is unexcuseable.
  17. Lifting the back foot? Like Ruth, Mays, Aaron, Clemente, Harper, Miguel Cabrera, Frank Thomas, & Trout?!? It's always interesting reading different perspectives on hitting, that is for sure! I think Arcia's mechanics are fine. Outside looking in, his struggles might have been more about pitch selection. MLB pitchers adjusted to him and he needed time to adjust back. I'm sure he needed to make a few mechanical adjustments too. So much of hitting is feel. I would guess there might have been issues with focus at times too. A focused Arcia is a dangerous dude. In the playoffs he looks dialed in. A very very valuable player.
  18. It's all fun for me. This year's Brewers are so far ahead of any sort of "window" that I thought would be possible, that this postseason feels like bonus Baseball, to me.
  19. Damn Bud Selig got us again! If steroids were legal that hit by Granderson would've gone out.
  20. Go Brewers! I like that all the relief pitchers except Hader & Woodruff should be available today. And then the day off tomorrow. So far so good. Miley has been awesome this season, here's hoping he's awesome again today. Just such a thrill to have the Brew Crew 3 wins away from the World Series!!! Wow!!!!! Looking forward to a fun day of watching postseason Baseball. The Red Sox-Astros game should be fun to see too.
  21. The greatest aspects of beating the Cubs was obviously all Baseball related, but the huge icing on the cake is we don't get another Wild Card banner! I love almost everything about Miller Park, but that Wild Card banner is flat out embarrassing!!!!
  22. I think you will find Stearns overturning the roster to rebuild depth in the minor leagues, not so much to upgrade major league takent. Players like Schoop, Davies, Thames, Santana could be traded for prospects.
