  1. I think if you can get an agreement with Machado on a long term contract as a condition of the trade, you pull the trigger and give up Arcia plus pitching... Cain Yelich Machado At the top of the order plus Shaw, Aguillar/Thames, Braun/Santana hitting 6th etc is just a ridiculously powerful lineup. Machado is only 25 years old, he is the type of player you absolutely break the bank for longterm. The Brewers being willing to play him at SS might be an advantage. A lot of teams would move him back to 3B and he wants to play Short.
  2. Wonder if we are about to trade for Realmuto or Salvador Perez? Kind of a weird move I trust in Stearns but I wonder if somebody spiked his lemonade last night or something?
  3. We'd need the Reds hitting coach, too. He's the one who helped Scooter change a few things with his swing & approach at the plate.
  4. I'd like nominate that for the Post of the Year!
  5. Perez is better than Realmuto.
  6. Sure would nice if Braun hits 5th or 6th or, honestly, serves as Aguillar's backup when he needs a day off. Maybe have Braun start twice a week, once for Jesus and once for Domingo. He isn't good enough anymore to be a starter and definitely not good enough to hit 3rd
  7. I would think that is close to accurate. My guess is the Marlins asked that Hader be included and got hung up on, then asked for Burnes and got refused. The Brewers would be better with JT, but they cannot afford to lose their pitching depth in MiLB in Burnes, Peralta, Ortiz etc. Those guys are a core part of 2019-2022.
  8. Yes. But let's make our guesses as educated as possible. Counsell said there are metrics that say Arcia is the best defensive player in the game today. Not just the best defensive Shortstop, the best defensive player. He wasn't prompted to say that.
  9. I think a lot of Brewers fans are used to the old way of doing things, where you cram as much offense as you can into every position possible, regardless of how awful the player is on defense. Pina & Arcia have been phenomenal this season. Defense wins championships.
  10. I'm fairly sure the Brewers and other front offices have proprietary analytics programs that rate Arcia's defense higher than traditional WAR & fWAR etc than fans have access to. The Royals won the World Series with Alcides Escobar at Shortstop. You guys can believe anything you want to, of course, but I really doubt the Brewers see Shortstop as a position they need to upgrade. And they sure as heck aren't about to trade one of the best defensive players in the game for a rental at the deadline.
  11. I recently heard Counsell say in an interview that there are metrics that say that Arcia is the best defensive player in Major League Baseball. I don't think the Brewers view that position as a liability. I think in reality the Brewers view Arcia the way the Cardinals viewed Molina in his younger days: " he's so good on defense that we don't even care if he hits".
  12. Zero guarantee that Machado continues anywhere near his offensive production that he has put up so far this year. He's never hit like this before. While it is possible, it isn't likely. He probably is the .280/.330/.480 with 30 HR's guy he's always been before. And while that is a serious upgrade over Arcia's production, you have to be careful of breaking the bank for that. Also, if he finishes the season close to his career numbers, how horrible of a sustained slump will he have in the next several months to get there? https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/machama01.shtml
  13. My how things have changed. It is relief seeing Choi is in the lineup instead of Braun and then remembering that Braun is on the DL. Does Ryan really need to be hitting 3rd when he comes back? He should hit 6th
  14. Arcia, Burnes, Peralta might get it done. I would not be OK with that. Knowing the Orioles they'd probably ask for Hader & Burnes. And then they start Hader and leave him in games too long, wear out his arm to the tune of a 3.85 ERA, and talk poorly about him in the local Baltimore media. What a poorly run franchise. But, yeah, it's the Orioles, the asking price will be steep.
  15. I think Cain belongs in the Top 10, probably Top 5, maybe 3rd overall. His contract isn't outrageous considering his production. He is a proven vet putting up excellent numbers.
  16. Please forgive me for being lazy and not looking it up myself: when is Peralta's next probable start?
  17. Sophia Minnaert is, in my opinion, the All Time greatest sideline reporter because she speaks Spanish and is able to get insight from the Brewers Spanish speaking players on an entirely different level than non-Spanish speaking people could get. She is also a pro in her mannerisms, and consistent. To me Sophia is the only person on the FSN-WI crew who is completely irreplaceable.
  18. I continue to believe that at least half of MLB is on one sort of PED or another. It is big business. The hypocrisy is crazy. Just my opinion, no inside info or anything
  19. Interesting. Not shocking, but.... Interesting
  20. So when Braun, Fielder, Hardy, Hart, Cain, Weeks and others all came up through the Brewers minor league system the instruction was good, but now with mostly the same system it is bad?
  21. It is hard to know for sure if it is the minor league system & instructors, or if it is the people handling the draft.... With the new GM in place I'm hopeful that there will be an increasing uptick in minor league talent. Hiura is hitting .333 in his last 10 games btw
  22. I'd like to see the Brewers trade for Danny Jansen, AAA catcher in the Blue Jays system. He's a Wisconsin kid, too (grew up in Appleton). http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=milb&player_id=643376#/career/R/hitting/2018/ALL
