  1. Interesting to see Arenado in the lineup, thought maybe he'd be out after taking a ground ball to his already bruised up hand last night. Funny seeing Reynolds, Parra, Lucroy in the Rockies lineup.... Alumni vs Varsity game
  2. Takeaways from this thread: 1) There is a national shortage of quality announcers. Put them on the endangered species list 2) I have too much time on my hands 3) A majority (but not all) of Brewerfan.net posters disagree with me on this topic It really was meant to be light-hearted. Anderson's OK, at times entertaining, at times pretty bland = "Brian Anderson No Bueno" I mean he's no Bill Hall or Russell Branyon or even T Plush in terms of legendary Milwaukee characters Moderators feel free to delete this thread if you wish. It really wasn't meant to be a big deal. From here on out I will restrict my BA complaining to IGT's
  3. There needs to at least be a higher level of expectations for these Umpires if we are going to keep the human umps. Less job security. Get at least 95% correct or you are out Baseball is big on keeping gambling out of the sport. Robot umps eliminates the notion that some umps are "on the take"....
  4. Manfred says: "The fact of the matter is they (human umpires) get them right well over 90% of the time." Why is that acceptable, in this modern era where we have the technology? Why accept having 1 in 10 calls wrong? Manfred says: “There is a human aspect to that, a work aspect to it, that’s always been an important part of our game. “I don’t think you can just jump to the conclusion that if you have to technology to do it that’s the right thing for your product.’’ The "always been a part of our game" is what bothers me. I know it would be a big step, but over the years Baseball has changed many things that were at one point "always part of the game" from integration to expansion, lowering the mound, adding DH's, expanding the postseason, going from 154 games to 162, testing for steroids etc....
  5. mostly because if he ends up with numbers like that it will represent a very hot finish to the season, but he is known as a streaky player. Can he adjust back when MLB adjusts to him at the start of 2018? I just don't see his trade value being super high no matter how hot he finishes
  6. Or they are being told to lift the ball and hit Home Runs
  7. Wishful thinking, in my opinion. Broxton could be a valuable "add-in" on a trade though
  8. accidental double post
  9. While it's true there is no guarantee on either Brinson or Phillips, the fact is they need the opportunity to show it one way or another in 2018. Another year behind Broxton won't afford enough opportunities. Now they could keep Broxton and Phillips and deal Brinson, who likely has the most value of the three anyway. Brinson should not be untouchable for the right return. But they can't keep both Brinson and Broxton, unless they deal Santana, which isn't out of the question but not likely either. I would propose that the Brewers start the 2018 season with either Brinson or Phillips as the starting CF. Whichever of them wins the job in Spring Training. The other is the 4th outfielder. You keep Broxton in the organization either in AAA or as a 5th Outfielder. I mean that quite seriously because after 250-300 At-Bats if neither Brinson or Phillips show they can hit MLB pitching you gotta go with Broxton then
  10. There is no guarantee that Phillips and/or Brinson will develop to be solid MLB players. Sure, we can speculate, but no guarantee. Because of that, you keep Broxton for at least another year. The security of knowing you have Broxton for, at the very least, depth, outweighs the trade value he brings. In my opinion. However if somehow he is added in a trade that seriously upgrades our pitching staff, then I can see it.
  11. Well this is a big topic that covers many aspects of Baseball and is a good topic. Thanks for posting it! In MLB, contact didn't seem as important in April/May/June of 2017. And I mean that literally, because MLB is constantly evolving/adjusting. I will be especially fascinated with the 2017 postseason, because I highly suspect that the teams built on 3TO offenses will struggle in the playoffs unless their pitching is just so elite they can win a ton of low scoring games. I think a team like the Pirates with their higher contact rate is poised to have a good postseason run, but they don't have enough pitching and that is a different story. What most of the youth/high school academies/travel coaches don't have a grasp on is exactly that, how much & how quickly the game changes. While I think the emphasis on athletic players who can play multiple positions isn't going away, I could see teams going back to appreciating more the high contact hitters as part of their lineup. Not every player is best suited for the high launch angle swinging for the seats approach. Again I really don't think that is going to work in the postseason if a team has most of their lineup trying to hit HR's all the time. Ultimately, line drives are timeless
  12. Probably just to piss off fans Maybe, just maybe, he needs two days off in a row?
  13. I wonder if Swarzak got hit in the neck by the same suitcase that injured Lucroy's hand a few years back?
  14. Not advocating for it, either, but I'll play along and say the return would be something along the lines of: Arcia, Hader, Woodruff & Brinson. Something ridiculous like that. Which of course there is no way the Brewers do that, but that is likely what it would take
  15. it is very easy to underestimate just how talented Villar is.... myself included. Talent like that, you want to give him a long leash. He was extremely valuable in 2016 and is flashing signs of that talent again lately
  16. Don't criticize. He's on national TV a lot. We're lucky to have him. There are worse announcers out there.
  17. Villar has played CF professionally before, albeit briefly in the minor leagues in 2014 and in the winter leagues. He played a little bit of LF with the Astros in 2015
  18. Strongly agree. The free agent market as it is will nothing special, as the game trends younger & younger. However if I was going to spend money in free agency I would spend it on pitching
  19. Nolan Gorman has a truly elite swing. Really impressed in the Perfect Game All-American Classic https://www.perfectgame.org/Pl...ofile.aspx?ID=378823
  20. I don't think it matters too much. Villar is a very poor SS and the little bit of data we have on Sogard says he is a bad SS but not nearly as bad. OK thanks. Makes sense
  21. Is it just me or would Villar be a more logical choice at SS than Sogard? (asking for a friend)
  22. All 4 second basemen in the lineup today!!! 2B Villar 1B Thames LF Braun 3B Walker RF Santana C Piña SS Sogard CF Pérez P Garza
  23. the 0 for 43 slump? Yeah he probably won't survive that. Will need to retire and probably will follow his Dad into front office work. I bet he could be a great mananger someday though Oh, wait.... what?!
  24. Brewers just traded for a 2B who even in a down year is hitting .284/.353/.495 vs RHP and has a proven track record of being a solid dependable hitter, and people are complaining? Personally I'm psyched. The team just got better. Will be interested to see what they gave up
