  1. That is a great question and no way do I trade Burnes as part of a Gray trade. If I have to trade Burnes to get Stroman I do it, but for Gray? No chance http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=669203#/career/R/pitching/2017/ALL
  2. That second inning was amazing. Seeing Braun's exuberance after the HR was fantastic. They need to trade for more pitching though, to keep this run going. They aren't gonna score 8-9 runs every game....
  3. 2017 defense is much much better, as is the 2017 bench and organizational depth.
  4. There has been a revolution in swing mechanics. Players are utilizing technology to measure launch angle and exit velocity and are training smarter and more intensely. They are rejecting the old maxims of "swing down to contact" and are now utilizing an "elevate to celebrate" approach. There are more pitchers throwing 95 mph+ fastballs, less crafty pitchers using deception and movement. Both of those factors are part of the increased HR rate. There may be other factors that we don't know about, but those are the known knowns
  5. Yankee Stadium isn't Colorado Springs but it is a hitter's paradise. If Cooper has oppo doubles power he could easily hit 20 HR's hitting line drives into Yankee Stadium's right field jet stream I still like the trade though. Controllable pitching is extremely valuable, and our bullpen is our biggest weakness
  6. the knowledgeable Cubs fans I know are really upset about this trade, they see Eloy Jiménez as another Kris Bryant type talent, and Dylan Cease throws 100 mph, and like a poof of smoke they are both gone....
  7. I really doubt Webb will be a starting pitcher. Prior to his 5 starts in AAA in 2016, the last time he started a game was his Soph year of college. Fortunately he was mostly a relief pitcher in college (college pitchers are notoriously abused) http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?P=tyler-webb
  8. Is this part of a corresponding move in trading Hader for starting pitching? Or just a depth building move for our bullpen?
  9. Marcus Stroman is awesome. I would be thrilled if the Brewers traded for him. I'd be surprised if the Blue Jays were dumb enough to trade him unless absolutely blown away by the offer. Something like Brinson + Dubon + Hader and man oh man that is a lot to give up for one pitcher.
  10. Probably Aguilar, because he is a RH hitter and because of Garrett Cooper. Although I'm a little concerned about Coopers Home/Road split in AAA (.442/.300)
  11. Kiura and Dubon are the only ones I don't want to be traded. I think Hader could be similar to Andrew Miller, so I'd only want to trade him for a very good controllable starting pitcher (like Quintana, or Stroman). I'd prefer to keep Woodruff, too I'd want to make sure to keep at least one of Brinson, Ray, Phillips
  12. Because in my mind Brent Suter is as good as Clayton Kershaw, but just in case reality says otherwise it could be a good idea. One of my favorite posts of the year!!!! That was awesome Yes, indeed... and Baseball history has shown that one can never have too much pitching
  13. Brewers trade Lewis Brinson, Brandon Woodruff & Josh Pennington to Chicago for Jose Quintana
  14. I would be thrilled to be wrong (if the Brewers keep him and he turns into a perennial All-Star) but man oh man I'm just not seeing that. His Away batting average is .265 in AAA ball. He is raking in Colorado Springs but even Ivan Dejesus Jr rakes in Colorado Springs! I haven't seen enough of Brinson to say for sure but he looks like a below average defensive CF in MLB to me. Maybe average. Above average defensive corner outfielder. He lost a bet in the Futures Game which required him to play all 9 innings. I could be reading too much into that, but really???! You wanted to come out of the game? I don't know, he seems like an athletically talented AAAA bust to me. Warning, warning Will Robinson. Trade him now when his value is high
  15. Where is the quality MI depth? Diaz has had a disastrous A+ season, although he has been heating up in his last 10 games. I have heard differing reports about his defensive abilities. Hiura could be up to MLB as soon as 2019 and if he plays 2B he makes Diaz very expendable, that is if Diaz develops into a MLB hitter. A big "if" so far, though I recognize Diaz is just 21 Dubon looks ready for MLB right now. He is a tremendous defensive player who can play 5-6 positions. He is somewhat like Hernan Perez except he gets on base and is much much better than Perez at SS. The value with him is tremendous. He is the only player in the system I'd trust at SS if Arcia went down for a long time due to injury. He is the definition of the athletic, versatile, controllable young talent that Stearns values.
  16. Agree on Hader being more valuable than Brinson. I do think Hader's role will be in the bullpen. I don't want to give up Hader, but you have to give to get and I think it'll take Hader included to get Quintana, and I think 3.5 years of Quintana is worth giving up Hader for. I wouldn't include Hader, or Woodruff for that matter, in any trade for Gray. Considering we have a logjam of talented OF prospects, the organization can afford to give up Brinson, even if he does becomes a reliable MLB starter, which I think is reasonably doubtful. Of the position players in the system, the only players I wouldn't want to trade are Mauricio Dubon and Keston Hiura
  17. I continue to doubt just how great Brinson will be. I'd be thrilled to get Quintana for Brinson/Hader
  18. You have to understand the competition for Quintana. A lot of teams are going to want him. It will probably take Brinson, Dubon, Woodruff to make it happen
  19. "We believe in Stephen Vogt! We believe in Stephen Vogt!" Villar still at the top of the batting order and in the lineup is the definition of a long leash. Man oh man, after yesterday I think I'd have Hernan playing 2B, but I trust in Craig. Go Brewers!
  20. The advantage of Gray & Quintana is they help you now and in 2018 & 2019. They are known commodities and if healthy, you can make a reasonable projection as to their MLB stats from 2017-2019. Quintana you could even pick up a team option and have him in 2020, too. With prospects you never know. Woodruff could be Gallardo, he could be Jungmann
  21. They have a lot of famous, big name players, but "talent", hmmm 1) Would you take Addison Russell over Orlando Arcia? I wouldn't 2) Other than Joe Buck's flatout mancrush on him, what about Javier Baez screams that he is that much better than Hernan Perez? 3) Are you 100% sure that Rizzo will put up better numbers than a combo/soft platoon of Thames/Aguillar? 4) Keon Broxton isn't our top player, but he's better than John Jay. Happ looks legit. Is he their CF of the future? 5) Zobrist is done. Put a fork in him 6) Bryant is a very very good player, but overrated. He's not Arenado. Travis Shaw is putting up similar or better numbers 7) Kyle Schwarber is the most overrated player in MLB
  22. I thought the images of the Cubs players laughing/smiling while John Jay pitched was telling. Yeah, I get it, it was funny, and maybe I'm too old school, but the Cubs played brutally bad yesterday. They looked horrible. All that laughing at the end of the game makes them look like they aren't about to contend. No "Eye of the Tiger" with that team. They look soft. Unless you've lived in Chicago it is difficult to understand the degree to which the current Cubs team players are treated like literal Gods in that town. They are spoiled, soft, and content
  23. I know you gotta give to get, but I really hope we don't trade Woodruff
  24. Knowing Duquette and his predilection for 3TO type players (Davis, Trumbo) I wouldn't be surprised if we could get Bundy for Jesus Aguillar straight up (only half kidding on that)
