    re: Jett Williams, 3 gams in a row doesnt sound like a taxi situation. Only times we've seen those types of unreported breaks is a smaller injury or a contract extension

    i dont know. Part of Murph's effectiveness is having the guys playing with some looseness and fun, not so uptight. He seems harder on the rookies. Everyone knew the situation that the white flag had been raised. Doesnt require the brewers to let up but im sure Murph saw what was going down and let it play. And after he smoked that ball it made me wonder if he could switch hit in the future without seeing his current splits.

    The tweak to their draft philosophy is observable over their past 10 years and their recent attempts to go for a big bat earlier. The moneyball approach was stated in a recent talk by their head analytics guy. Not posted publicly.

    Not buying that the issue is directly about ortiz move away from the position (ss) he has done quite well at the last couple years i think you can trace the slump back to when the Pratt signing winds started. Then you have Ortiz looking over his shoulder and wondering if/when he loses his job. And where does he go if that happens? it wasn’t clear who of Ortiz/rengifro/hamilton would be the odd man out or who gets the start at third. Ortiz gets the platoon and gets to build up confidence vs lefties. Next it’s back to full time. And suddenly it’s all coming together

    I guess i have the opposite impression of the current T-Rats, as someone living in appleton. Feels like we rarely have blue chippers to watch for any length of time. This year it was so over-loaded but the remaining crop still feels way more impressive than what's usually here.

    I think there's a cultural thing to understand where he is from New Jersey and you need to take his remarks with a grain of salt as its the cultural norm to overexaggerate. Bitonti a 10 time allstar?

    its been very selfish usage of challenges for Gary. Meanwhile a number of other players like Vaughn and Turang need to get a little more selfish. I would assume there's been conversations. He legitimately had a challenge last night but stopped himself. Seems to me he is trying to use challenges to take away the outer perimeter of the plate for pitchers. Instead, pitchers are using the outer perimeter of the plate to bait him into challenges.

    I don’t think the brewers need a mid rotation guy. Yeah they could move the needle incrementally for the regular season but it’s not worth the price and we have enough decent arms to cover that spot. At this point the brewers are in the playoffs already. Any move is about beating the dodgers

    I wonder how much the season Ortiz has had is psychological. He seemed to come into the season ready but then word spread about an extension to Pratt and he soon fell apart. Could be coincidence in timing but he’s fighting for his career and payday. Murph recounted the talk with Ortiz where he may have been shaken up about it. Now it’s like a fresh start at third and maybe figuring it out.

    Assuming Skenes is healthy, you absolutely trade a proven TOR starter with 3.5 years for an unproven AA prospect. But would never happen

    William has a lot of value thats tough to replace. I could see a QO but its close, but i dont think they would move him unless they trust Quero's arm. They are focused as an org on minimizing pitch counts and that could hurt. I think we see with Yeli and Woody a reason to be even more cautious with veteran contracts. Even with guys the org loves. Instead, I expect an even more aggressive approach at longer first contracts. More bullets to roll the dice a la Chourio/Pratt/Lara. They have so many young guys to work with coming up the org that they dont need to look at the older vets on a third contract.

    Yes actually, they do. Brewers crunched the moneyball numbers to realize the best value they could get for building was around defense and speed and thats how they built the club to get to the upper echelon offensively. However they can also see that the lack of pop has created a hurdle for beating ace pitchers in the playoffs. One way they have addressed their limitations is by acquisition (Adames, Contreras, Hoskins, Vaughn, etc) Another in recent years is by being more aggressive with seeking out power bats earlier in the draft compared to the past (Mitchell, Bitonti, Fischer, Burke, even Payne)

    While Fischer's K rate is an obvious concern, Hiura's best minor league season saw less HRs than Fischer today at the midpoint of the season

    I'm not seeing Fischer yet. The lockout potential, the whiff rate, losing development.. no reason to start his clock early when you have some borderline top prospects at the AAA level in Williams and Adams already. Outside shot at September callups if he continues at this pace but not expecting it.

    Wow, kind of surprised unless another move is coming. Bauers or Frelick to third?

    IIRC they moved Leonard to OF and he’s not a good defender. Not likely to see him except as a bench bat late season. Adams also not a great defender and plays more 1b for the brewers. But man would I love to see some of his pop right now. That makes Williams the likely choice. He’s been warming up his bat lately. Can provide defensive flexibility at SS and 3B, and the brewers put a high value on defense (limiting team’s overall pitches).

    I think Pena is pretty close to untouchable. Doesn't seem like a brewer move to unload 4 solid prospects for a 2 year rental that isn't even TOR

    Brewers have been willing to pay guys like OHearn for one year as a proven stopgap. I cant see them unloading Vaughn over that price tag, unless someone like Adams was forcing the issue, especially with Bauers likely gone. But even then, you keep Vaughn and he has trade value in-season or offseason. I dont think its realistic they just let him walk at that price.

    in the couple years prior to Woodruff's injury, he was a 4 WAR pitcher who could pitch 160 innings. over the past 3+ years, he's average just over 1 WAR and maybe 60 innings. Thats proven a very expensive lottery ticket. Not saying the initial deal wasnt reasonable, but cant argue its paid off in any way.

    I think its short sighted to deal Pena. He has freakish speed, great plate discipline and could probably play most anywhere. This would definitely be selling low. Williams' 2026 has been a rare disappointment for the org. Selling low but definitely a possibility if the price is right. Lara is part of a logjammed OF. I dont know that anyone outside of Payne and maybe Adamczewski shouldnt be part of the conversation.

    just wondering if the hamate has sapped a little power. EVs are down a bit from a last year's peak year, even with the luxury of facing lefties. But purely as a hitter, he seems very different than with the ChiSox and still building on last year.
