  1. Based on the eye-test, I'm surprised Bauers has been as poor as he's been. I just think they have to release him. Of course, they can send down Miller or Dunn, too, but I feel like they are just delaying the inevitable. I'm very worried about Black being really really poor in the field, though.
  2. This is the first and only forum I've ever participated in, and it is because it is typically civil, readable, fun, and filled with some really good posters. I think the disagreements tend to maintain civility and respect, rather than what can be found on other forums. I believe this is in part due to the efforts the founders put into enforcing their rules, such as no cussing/flaming/etc. While I understand some posters think that loosening up some of those rules could create a little more color and flair, I think that in the long run, allowing such things would end up keeping a lot of good people away.
  3. Someone in the game-thread surmised that he wears the mitt for diving back to first, which makes sense to me. Doesn't change the fact that he's been deliberately interfering with DPs for a long time.
  4. Brewers have started 17-10 against one of the better schedules to date in MLB. I thought that I've matured past the frustration of being the Rodney Dangerfield of baseball, but how is it this fanbase can't jump on board this bandwagon? Almost every thread here at Brewerfanatic is filled with nothing but doubt and consternation. Again, they've got a .630 winning percentage. And many of us, including myself, were predicting a losing record in April! And that was BEFORE the injuries. Maybe we need to recognize that this organization belongs in the conversation for best-run franchises in baseball.
  5. He's one of the more dangerous 9-hole hitters in MLB. Power and speed. Let the kid breathe. He's one good game (AB?) away from finding all the confidence he needs to blossom.
  6. I respectfully disagree. When you have a protective mitt on, and have Aaron Judge's hand-eye coordination, I'd be surprised if he couldn't block 50% of Wily Adam's throws from 10 feet away.
  7. Ask yourself this... If 6'7" Yankee Baseball Superstar, Aaron Judge, slides feet-first every time (which he probably should, outside of game-winning plays at the plate), why does he need a sliding mitt at all? I guess because it's perfectly legal for someone to block throws with their hands. The Crew should have ALL of their players sport mitts on BOTH hands in DP situations.
  8. Do we have a current scouting report on Shook? Does he have big league pitches? Is he a candidate to get some IPs for the big club?
  9. I really like Miley. I feel sad that his career is in jeopardy and that he has to go through the rehab involved with TJ. I was also really hoping he could throw some innings with the Brewers this season. I like guys that are forced to adjust their career arc by learning how to pitch in new ways. While this is obviously an unfortunate development for the team, its certainly less impactful than say, the Braves losing Strider, so I don't expect they throw in the towel. They may need to bolster with a trade, but I also feel good about their ability to get creative about getting outs.
  10. There can't be enough Turang threads for me. "Vote Turang for All-Star Game!", "Turang for Gold Glove!" "Turang for Silver Slugger!" "Turang for President!" Anytime we get to celebrate this guy, I'm all aboard.
  11. Yeah, I guess I shouldn't have said, "no one". I also had assumed the Brewers' defense was much better, but apparently the Yankees are pretty solid in that area. I think I'm also finding a lot of the negativity/pessimism about the Brewers start strange. Like everyone thinks the Brewers are winning with smoke and mirrors or something.
  12. I totally agree with this. I get that the schtick from the Brewers guys is dumb sometimes, but sometimes, baseball is a little dull. Might as well have fun with it -- its a GAME after all. Overall, I prefer the guys like Rottino and Chris Singleton doing slightly deeper analysis, but I don't mind the goofballs as much as I mind the guys that take the game too seriously. I heard Kirk Gibson earlier this year and I felt the same way. It made the broadcast more boring, and I found his analysis lackluster. I hope the Brewers continue to mix-and-match, and switch up the broadcasts with the whole crew (More Singleton and Dan Plesac, please). I like the variety.
  13. If there was a blind comparison between these two teams, no one would pick the Yankees to take the series.
  14. Are there any ramifications to trading Penix after the fact? As in, they called the Raider's bluff and took him because the Raiders wouldn't give up fair draft capital for the pick?
  15. Great pass blockers that aren't 6'9", 370# with super long arms and don't have tons of pancakes on film are boring. But if he's the best pass blocker, that's the right pick.
  16. - When was the last time Dylan O'Rae went 0-5 with 3 Ks? - Was Blalock working on something? That was a really surprising line. - Yoho. Just how quickly is he gunna go through the system? I guess there's no rush with the wealth of RP prospects, but I have to think he's gunna be an option for the big club by June next season. - This system is so so fun to watch. I'm so glad to see Gasser and Pratt back. I also loved to see them perhaps getting something from Russ Smith!
  17. Since last Wednesday... SP- Wilson 3.2IP. Brewers 0 runs allowed SP- Peralta 6.0IP. Brewers 1 run allowed SP- Hall 3.2 IP. Brewers 5 runs allowed SP- Rea 5.0 IP. Brewers 0 runs allowed SP- Ross 5.1 IP Brewers 4 runs allowed SP- Myers 5.0 IP. Brewers 2 runs allowed SP- Wilson 4.1 IP. Brewers 2 runs allowed I don't see any reason to rush Gasser.
  18. I don't think that it's a foregone conclusion that the organization made any mistakes with roster construction. Others believe this rash of injuries proves that the Brewers didn't cover their bases. I think the start by Myers yesterday is another example that maybe the organization felt comfortable with their SP depth.
  19. My point was that I believe the Brewers are/were better equipped to handle this rash of bad luck than a lot of other teams scrambling to fill SP spots due to injury, but that this rash of bad luck, all happening at once, gives the impression that the Brewers didn't do anything to shore up the staff. Many of us doubted the Joe Ross signing, for example.
  20. Anyone else see this and was reminded of the Black Sox??
  21. It's true that I tend to sympathize with umps across all sports and across all levels. That doesn't mean that it doesn't anger me when I feel like Angel Hernandez has stolen the game from the Brewers. It doesn't mean that I don't enjoy booing an ump in person. I just tend to believe that perfection is the enemy of good enough when it comes to officiating (e.g. replay to change PI in football, replay to change fouls in NBA, VAR is a disaster in soccer), and that it gives too much credence to the notion that this stuff is actually important enough to care this much. In addition, I tend to believe in being able to treat the impartial arbiters in any context with more decorum than we've allowed in sports. At the risk of sounding too much like Chris Carpenter, what are we teaching our kids? Perhaps the ump identified the wrong guy. But perhaps the FAN should have been tossed.
  22. Umps just making up for the dozen times they resisted tossing him.
  23. I'm really bummed about the injury/performance issues with Miley, Junis, Hall, Gasser, Misiorowski, et.al, (Mostly because it gives credence to all the naysayers that said the Brewers did nothing of significance in the offseason to address their rotation, and that had they only signed Cy what'shisname, or traded for so-and-so younghurler, that all of these issues could have been avoided).
  24. Yeah, I think many of us believe the current usage is unsustainable, but they're winning. Winning some tight, low-scoring bullpen games, too. So I'm not sure there is evidence of "a chaotic lack of direction." Perhaps even though the roles change game to game, there has been a plan for each game, and that the players know what to expect. To alleviate the IP pressure, I would simply prefer to have more guys that can go 2 or 3 innings. Call them piggy-back, long relief, low leverage, whatever. If they're getting outs they are valuable
