  1. Yeli for MVP!!
  2. I'm not as optimistic as some. I fear this will really disrupt his development with a strong possibility that his pop-times suffer, as well as his developing strength for his swing. I think he'll still be a big leaguer some day, but I think the likelihood of his being an all-star level catcher has taken a significant hit. At this point in time, I hope he can become Manny Pina. Which isn't a knock on Pina! Any prospect would be fortunate to have his career.
  3. Makes me wonder if this was essentially a negotiating tactic, and that the O's and Boras are working on a Chourio-like extension. Boras clients don't always go to free-agency at the earliest opportunity. And Boras wants to maximize Holliday's career earnings. A pricey extension now still allows for Holliday to hit free agency in his prime.
  4. Whoa... if that's accurate... well, I think we can start penciling him into our MLB starting pitching depth THIS year.
  5. I was gunna ask the same thing on Monday, and never got around to it, Thanks!!
  6. He's basically playing his way out of this scenario, and I'm perfectly fine with that.
  7. Since we're talking Maddux and umpires, I think Maddux is an average pitcher with today's technology (instant feedback on strike zones). I also believe that this is the reason pitchers have needed to maximize velocity and stuff, as that is th only way to be able to consistently pitch in the strike zone.
  8. I maintain that Turang's range and arm are tick above that of Ortiz (not that I've seen a lot), and that he'll take over SS next season. Ortiz at 2nd, Wilkin at 3rd. Dunn can be a platoon option for Ortiz/Wilkin. I think Black will be traded. I think EBJ will find utility work. I think Frelick may also have a role there.
  9. Is there any reason that we would WANT to credit cagey pitchers that go 6+IP with low pitch counts, few strike outs, and the ability to pitch around dangerous hitters? Maybe relying on FIP doesn't really tell the whole story, either.
  10. I'll throw out a conspiracy theory... He's recovering from food poisoning, but didn't get a concussion. They wanted an extra pitcher w/o IL-ing him for the full 15 days.
  11. I'm pushing my chips in for Edwin Jimenez.
  12. Confirms that Yo! Rodriguez will skip Arizona Complex League.
  13. Anyone else think this one is a little odd? Seems like a lot of commitment for a catcher. I realize the money means nothing, but is he still going to be even average in 5 years?
  14. I mean, the IRS is investigating. What could MLB possibly uncover, that the IRS couldn't? Why not just wait for the IRS to lay down charges?
  15. I have no idea if this link will work properly, but I'll give it a shot... In the roughly 300 games since the end of 2015, Wisconsin ranks #20 in T-Rank. Fourth in the B1G. Call that average if you wish. I think the goal and ambition of any program in that position is to try and keep climbing to the top. For some, they view Gard as maxxing out his potential as a coach. In my opinion, I don't think there is any doubt that Gard is a student of the new landscape in college hoops, and has moved toward those changes. He is not as staid as his reputation suggests. Allowing players like Johnny Davis and A.J. Storr to do what they do, and in general, loosening up the offense (an uncharacteristic offensive team in terms of efficiency this season), or navigating the portal/NIL does not demonstrate a Paul Chryst-like refusal to acknowledge the changes in his sport. Being able to recover from the locker-room leak, or the Moore tragedy, and continue to sustain their level off success simply doesn't provide me with doubt over the leadership of Greg Gard, but rather confirms my belief in it. The question people need to ask themselves is, "Which coach is best positioned to lead this program back to great heights?" For me, the answer remains Greg Gard.
  16. I like Perkins. He only got 168 PAs in his rookie year last year, and looked like handled himself well enough that he could have a Tyrone Taylor-like role on a big league team. Top notch defender and switch hitter with some speed, what's not to like for your fourth outfielder?
  17. This is just so, so disappointing. I've been dying for an extended run from Mitchell -- just to see what they have in him, and he's always hurt. It just stinks. So: Yelich, Chourio, Frelick, and Perkins. That's a solid four. As others have mentioned, this may put the Frelick at 3rd experiment on hold, I'd expect Dunn to take the spot on the roster in Mitchell's absence.
  18. I know you were responding to someone else, but there's more to front court play than being athletic. I want them to recruit differently as well, but let's not just throw out all of the positive contributions that players like Crowl and Wahl can make... Point forward?? Not many of those guys out there. Inside AND outside? Not many 7-footers with that skill-set. I don't disagree that rules changes have effectively neutered positional defense in favor of bouncy, big shot blockers that go over the back on every possession, and can't pass out of a double-team to save their life (just jump and throw it towards the hoop! Then chase down the rebound!). But let's not pretend that Wahl and Crowl didn't provide UW with tremendous benefits.
  19. I would imagine it's too soon to say. Even guys that haven't spent the last year injured sometimes won't get back to their expected velocity until after the first few starts of the season. I guess I don't remember how hard he threw before but 92-94 doesn't seem too far off. Maybe a couple of clicks?
  20. I think the Badgers will smoke JMU. Excluding MSU, in the first game of the season, the best team they played was T-Rank's #99th ranked team, Appalachian State... who they lost to... twice. I think all of the noise about 12 over 5, and looking at JMU's gaudy record will quiet down by halftime, by which time, the Badgers will have dominated the paint/boards. The lone worry for me is 3-point shooting, as JMU has enough good shooters, especially shooters with a little height. Badger guards will need to especially crash the boards, and I hope Gard has them crash the offensive glass as well.
  21. Especially because Gasser will need every drip and drop of experience and knowledge from Miley... a near perfect MLB pathway for Gasser.
  22. I don't like this news. With that said, this isn't an arm injury, or a chronic back problem (unless I'm missing something). For that reason, he's getting a few months off so he can be fresh for September. I think there's enough depth for the Brewers to be okay. It may even open up the opportunity for others to strut their stuff. It also gives the team a sense of what the 'pen could look like when Devin is traded in the offseason.
  23. I'm sure Zaidi knows all the nuances of the CBA, but it's also possible that they didn't want to roster him, and knew they'd have to pay him no matter what. The fact an arbiter sided with Davis in his hearing is a pretty potent piece of evidence for him to file a grievance. I don't know if this is a thing, but maybe the Giants end up paying the difference between his new team's contract and $6.9M.
