  1. I've been following the Brewers minor leagues since the late 1990's. This is by far the deepest system I can ever recall the Brewers having. It's not filled with top 100 guys (although there are a few of those as well), but there are a lot of guys that will fill valuable roles in MLB at some point in their careers. I encourage Mass, Joseph, Michaelis, or any of our other gurus to set me straight if they disagree.
  2. The Turangutan was on full display today. So satisfying as he's quickly becoming my favorite Brewer. How much WAR did he accumulate today?
  3. I can't believe I'm typing this, but I think they can get more than that for Devin. I agree that the Brewers will likely be looking for arms in their returns over the next couple of trade cycles, though. I don't see them trying to acquire a big bat unless that bat is also a really good defensive player. It seems to me that this is their roster-building strategy for the foreseeable future. To fill the roster with really good defensive players and sprinkle in FA bats or top picks like Wilkin to provide some punch to the lineup. Over the next few seasons, they will have a top-notch defensive outfield, and some really good middle infield defense as well.
  4. Sorry for the delay with this question, but did anyone see any velocity from the Carolina kids the other day? That pro debut from Letson has me very, very intrigued.
  5. It seems imperative that Boeve continues to be at least servicable at 3B and maybe even 2B and/or is able to Lyle Overbay his way to league-leading doubles power. That's a pretty good career if he can a least ISO in the .150 range and continue to take walks at a good clip.
  6. What is the outcome for Boeve... like, a lefty Kevin Seitzer? There's not a lot of successful MLBers these days that are slow-footed corners that simply spray line drives, unless they are supremely gifted in that area.
  7. I get that Holliday is in a great position to bet on himself, and that he's confident that he'll perform well enough to break the bank at the first opportunity. And certainly, that's the likliest decision for him and Boras. But if the O's offer him big bucks now, in exchange for 1 year of FA, he's young enough that he'll be what... 27 when he reaches FA? Guaranteed money is guaranteed money. Boras ESPECIALLY knows this, as he's always going for longer deals and total dollars. As you mentioned, he doesn't need the money, but he hired Boras for a reason.
  8. Does anyone else wonder what will happen to the Brewers AAA team if MLB awards a franchise to Nashville? This move further away from Raleigh concerns me as this stadium probably won't draw from Raleigh, nor be a big enough stadium to go AAA.
  9. Yeli for MVP!!
  10. I'm not as optimistic as some. I fear this will really disrupt his development with a strong possibility that his pop-times suffer, as well as his developing strength for his swing. I think he'll still be a big leaguer some day, but I think the likelihood of his being an all-star level catcher has taken a significant hit. At this point in time, I hope he can become Manny Pina. Which isn't a knock on Pina! Any prospect would be fortunate to have his career.
  11. Makes me wonder if this was essentially a negotiating tactic, and that the O's and Boras are working on a Chourio-like extension. Boras clients don't always go to free-agency at the earliest opportunity. And Boras wants to maximize Holliday's career earnings. A pricey extension now still allows for Holliday to hit free agency in his prime.
  12. Whoa... if that's accurate... well, I think we can start penciling him into our MLB starting pitching depth THIS year.
  13. I was gunna ask the same thing on Monday, and never got around to it, Thanks!!
  14. He's basically playing his way out of this scenario, and I'm perfectly fine with that.
  15. Since we're talking Maddux and umpires, I think Maddux is an average pitcher with today's technology (instant feedback on strike zones). I also believe that this is the reason pitchers have needed to maximize velocity and stuff, as that is th only way to be able to consistently pitch in the strike zone.
  16. I maintain that Turang's range and arm are tick above that of Ortiz (not that I've seen a lot), and that he'll take over SS next season. Ortiz at 2nd, Wilkin at 3rd. Dunn can be a platoon option for Ortiz/Wilkin. I think Black will be traded. I think EBJ will find utility work. I think Frelick may also have a role there.
  17. Is there any reason that we would WANT to credit cagey pitchers that go 6+IP with low pitch counts, few strike outs, and the ability to pitch around dangerous hitters? Maybe relying on FIP doesn't really tell the whole story, either.
  18. I'll throw out a conspiracy theory... He's recovering from food poisoning, but didn't get a concussion. They wanted an extra pitcher w/o IL-ing him for the full 15 days.
  19. I'm pushing my chips in for Edwin Jimenez.
  20. Confirms that Yo! Rodriguez will skip Arizona Complex League.
  21. Anyone else think this one is a little odd? Seems like a lot of commitment for a catcher. I realize the money means nothing, but is he still going to be even average in 5 years?
  22. I mean, the IRS is investigating. What could MLB possibly uncover, that the IRS couldn't? Why not just wait for the IRS to lay down charges?
  23. I have no idea if this link will work properly, but I'll give it a shot... In the roughly 300 games since the end of 2015, Wisconsin ranks #20 in T-Rank. Fourth in the B1G. Call that average if you wish. I think the goal and ambition of any program in that position is to try and keep climbing to the top. For some, they view Gard as maxxing out his potential as a coach. In my opinion, I don't think there is any doubt that Gard is a student of the new landscape in college hoops, and has moved toward those changes. He is not as staid as his reputation suggests. Allowing players like Johnny Davis and A.J. Storr to do what they do, and in general, loosening up the offense (an uncharacteristic offensive team in terms of efficiency this season), or navigating the portal/NIL does not demonstrate a Paul Chryst-like refusal to acknowledge the changes in his sport. Being able to recover from the locker-room leak, or the Moore tragedy, and continue to sustain their level off success simply doesn't provide me with doubt over the leadership of Greg Gard, but rather confirms my belief in it. The question people need to ask themselves is, "Which coach is best positioned to lead this program back to great heights?" For me, the answer remains Greg Gard.
