Actually a really nice start for Luna. That's got to feel good for him. I suppose health and potential role all play into how they handle Rasmussen. Only 74 innings this year, so they'll have to plot his course in the spring if starting is at all in the cards.
Doubt anyone will claim Stokes, so likely to be outrighted. Still some potential there, just not enough to warrant carrying him on the 40 for multiple seasons to wait. Know a lot of people were predicting the Wilkerson move, though I didn't think they'd do it. Weird that they'd so high on Austin.
A new and delayed September call-up. [sarcasm]But hey, 1/3 of my master plan to win the Southern League is complete![/sarcasm] Tom @Haudricourt #Brewers are optioning Devin Williams to @BiloxiShuckers so he can pitch in playoffs there. @missionsmilb are done playing Monday and Williams must stay down 10 days.
Nice season for Small. 8 Ks and 1 ER in 4.1 IP in final outing. By giving up an earned run, his A-ball ERA "soars" all the way to 1.00, 31 K's in 18 IP.
Shaw was pulled from San Antonio's lineup tonight, so expect him back tomorrow with Moustakas/Hiura out. Burnes emerged from the Secret Pitching Lab only to blow up in the first inning once again - 3 hits, 3 walks, 4 runs.
Oof. Crummy way to end a nice season. Supak still banging up against the AAA wall. SA needed this one to make things interesting for the playoff chase; barring a comeback they'll be three back with four to play and all but done. Bettinger solid again for Biloxi. Assuming they're ok with his innings (now +29 from last year), looks like he's lined up to start the playoff opener.
Video that may answer the initial question pretty well. Also a great channel by Matt Antonelli, a former first round pick of the Padres who had a cup of coffee in the majors and several years in the minors. Baseball people who aren't familiar, his channel will keep you entertained for hours.
Is he statistically the best starting pitcher acquired at the deadline? If not, I'm sure he's got to be up there. I was just hoping for him to not continually blow up until Woodruff returned.
Let's see how wrong I end up being. Wave 1 (Sept 1, or when eligible): Nelson, Suter, Gamel, Freitas, Peralta Wave 2 (end of AAA season): Shaw, Faria, Wilkerson, Nottingham, Taylor 40-man left out: Williams, Burnes, Supak, Stokes
Imagine hearing in April that Nelson, Peralta, and Shaw would all be in AAA on August 27. Two of them optioned and one on a re-started rehab assignment to keep him down longer. Two of them in the bullpen and one passed over being recalled in favor of Corey Spangenberg. Not to mention Burnes off in the secret Sports Science lab, but not the John Brenkus one.
I decided to go work out after the 6th. It's still the top of the 7th? I might be a bit lazy tonight, but I think saying I didn't even make it through half an inning is a bit disingenuous!
