  1. That or Milwaukee's real estate market has really skyrocketed. Asking price is a 9% annual increase since he bought in 2013?
  2. The home stadium shift from the earlier considerations of AZ/FL/TX did interest me. Is it a thing where the combination of heat, time zones, and finding optimal TV times make it difficult? Or are they desperate to gamble that there could be a point where late season could let them have 10%-25% capacity? Maybe it could come as a counter proposal to the owners', but just don't see how the players in particular would strongly prefer to be playing in New York vs. Florida or Milwaukee vs. Arizona under the current circumstances.
  3. Believe the earlier agreement was pro-rated pay for the players. They'd make their fixed contractual rate based on the amount of season played. Owners now want to make the rate variable as a revenue share. Seems like they have a lot of work to do to come to an agreement.
  4. Let's go Dinos! Any team whose fans call Thames "God" gets my backing.
  5. ~25% capacity in a stadium seems like a lot to start, even if they're theoretically trying to stay the required distance apart. Of course they're targeting September at the earliest vs. baseball in a couple of months. Does seem like "no fans" is unnecessary when they could easily fit a couple thousand and they could never be close to anyone else.
  6. Do...do we root for the Samsung Lions because they signed Saladino, the Doosan Bears because that was Lindblom's team, or the NC Dinos because that was Thames' team? Yes, that was a little sarcastic. Yes, I will watch.
  7. It could be a combination of evolving strains or a finite period of heightened antibodies. Evolving strains would behave like the flu - a flu shot is good for some strains that year. Someone can get the flu one year, and the sequences of the virus are different enough the next year so they get essentially the same disease again. Finite period of heightened antibodies would be in the way your doctor gives you a tetanus booster shot every few years (yes, that's bacterial, but same concept). The level of antibodies is reduced over time to the point where someone is now susceptible to the disease again. In either case, it's unlikely there is a scenario where someone gets COVID-19, recovers, then a few weeks later gets it again. Would more likely be talking a year or years between infections.
  8. With how reliant they are on gate / on-site revenue, I could also see many MiLB teams potentially folding or needing some kind of bailout to stay afloat. They're not going to have means to set up isolated leagues. Maybe MLB does something at the end of the year at the spring training sites to get some grasp on their prospects.
  9. Why risk spreading the virus more than you have to? Series should be longer, not shorter. But how are you going to do this with 15 teams? Do you have a team off for 3 or 4 days because the other 14 teams are playing a series? It can be done by staggering the series start/ends. It's pretty janky since it will require series to be atypical lengths; may have a one game set and 5-6 games. Off days will also be all over the place instead of always Monday or Thursday like they usually schedule. I think this division would be fun for four months. NORTHWEST: Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, Kansas City Royals.
  10. Wondering if somewhat following this timeline, the All Star break is essentially a "go home break". Maybe a couple of teams in hot spots have to stay in Arizona, but optimistically it then becomes a four day window for teams to relocate and locals to show some excitement for their team coming home (whether or not they can get into the park). This could get a 100 game season with an early June start, which seems more than enough to give an adequate balance of not rushing things, not having a too short season, and not going too loony in making silly rules just to get games in.
  11. Absolutely terrible idea. No way will MLB be back in May. It does seem absurd. The "idea list" in this article is even more ridiculous. No mound visits and players sitting six feet apart in the stands? I can see some changes in seating, but if you've go to mandate that it smacks of pressing the issue to come back prematurely. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29004498/mlb-union-focused-plan-allow-season-start-early-arizona
  12. Yep, probably closing in on 10,000. Players, coaches, team personnel, umpires, facilities staff, doctors, media, lodging, food service, transportation. Double that if not disconnecting all of them from their families for months. Then still needing a 0.000% failure rate on the supply chain for food, supplies, equipment, transportation. Best case is things improve enough by late May/early June that they can prepare to play the second half schedule. Even then there would be stadium sharing or teams playing out of their spring training complex if they're located in hot spots.
  13. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal Baseball is considering games in empty spring training parks, with no fans and quarantined players. But the logistics of such a plan would be extremely complex, and perhaps insurmountable. Story: https://theathletic.com/1723090/2020/04/03/rosenthal-mlb-pondering-games-in-empty-spring-parks-but-many-obstacles-remain/ This seems...unlikely and impossible?
  14. Would you prefer "digital athletics"?
  15. There is a feeling of inevitability among executives that Major League Baseball will be suspending spring training as soon as today, sources tell ESPN.
  16. Was brainstorming that idea. What do they do when the season starts? Sending everyone home seems like it could add rather than reduce risk. If they are able to isolate Arizona and Florida camps to the point where the virus isn't introduced, do they extend spring training? Play regular season games at spring training facilities and swap out April series between AZ/FL teams with later season series? Have a wedding to go to in a couple weeks. It's crazy and frightening how within a week our family's advice has gone from "just fly, you'll be fine and driving 12 hours is dumb" to "can't blame you for driving" to "you really shouldn't be traveling and going to a big gathering, please stay home".
  17. No way the MLB season starts as scheduled. Bigger question may be if they keep the Spring Training complexes up and running as scheduled or even into the season if everyone remains healthy or send everyone home?
  18. Glad I didn't have to feel dumb thinking "What is Swift?" and Googling in case it was something common. So we're between Taylor, Jonathan, programming...[sarcasm]maybe Swift codes and he's into international money laundering?[/sarcasm]
  19. Thought a team might give Faria a shot. Got to be a few teams that thought he might not suck, but being out of options is a major deterrent.
  20. It's probably a really good thing for baseball that the Nats won the Series. Though to be more cynical, it's probably also a good thing for baseball that its 2017 and 2018 champions weren't caught in 2017 or 2018.
  21. He was on that list of guys who have the bad combination of being at the back of the bullpen and out of options. At least thought he'd make it into spring training.

  23. The Finn thing was just strange since it's set up well in the movie, the conclusion of the trilogy, and then...not concluded. If the leaks are true (accidentally moving something, then actually telling Rey), it would at least complete the storyline. Also another on/off/on arc for the trilogy since it was speculated after the first film, completely off the radar in the second, then back on in the third.
  24. I thought it was pretty good. Have of it had to be used to essentially hit the undo button on Last Jedi, which just messed up any chance the trilogy as a whole had of being good, so about the best you could ask for. I'm curious if the rumors of JJ Abrams' 3 hour long cut are true. All of the supposed leaked details sound great, though I doubt we'll ever get to see it. The Mandalorian, on the other hand, was fantastic.
  25. As long as he spends more time in the minors than the majors this is ok. If not, I'd much rather have gambled on Travis Shaw having a bounce back.
