  1. Lost my perfect bracket before the draft even began.
  2. For posterity (i.e. bragging rights if I'm somehow correct ) my top-10 predictions are: 1.1 Kyle Lewis 1.2 AJ Puk 1.3 Riley Pint 1.4 Mickey Moniak 1.5 Delvin Perez 1.6 Jason Groome 1.7 Kyle Lewis 1.8 Nick Senzel 1.9 Zack Collins 1.10 Corey Ray
  3. 1.1 (Philadelphia): Kyle Lewis, OF, Mercer My rationale: Despite Puk being the apparent consensus, I feel like a pitcher who has been a little inconsistent (and some minor injuries?) might be an unnecessary risk at 1-1. Based on Jim Callis's reporting, the rumor is that Philadelphia will look at a position player if not Puk. I'm guessing the Phillies front office thinks they can be competitive sooner than most expect, so I give the nod to the best college position player available.
  4. [sarcasm]Didn't realize that it was already settled that these teenage OF prospects are incapable of ever playing RF, thanks for the tip!!![/sarcasm]
  5. Seems unlikely that it is a "virtual lock" if people like Jim Callis project the Brewers passing on him. As I said in another thread though, Perez would be my #1 pick (obviously I would be excited about others too)
  6. A college corner OF is boring in a way, but just picture a Corey Ray-Trent Clark outfield if all goes well. Nothing wrong with that.
  7. There's a part about Fip that generally sends some disbeliefs in accuracy. You see numbers and certain affects it seems. HRs and Ks. Lower ERA but Higher HR/lower than 8 K rate? Fip jumps. Low HR/high K Fip is lower. Pitching in launching pad that is MP gives me some I don't really believe this Fip number if he's pitching in LA or SD type of ballparks. Junior Guerra's numbers prior to today are fairly close to Nelson. 3.2Fip 1HR allowed. I'll be interested to see where his Fip goes after another HR given up but 11ks today. Nelson pitching to 7.1hits/9 is impressive. Any starter that doesn't give up 8.5+ to me depending on BB/9 stands to be better than a Peralta who's 9.7+ on his career. Johnny Cueto in 2014 had a 3.3Fip to a 2.25ERA. 22HRs but 6.2hit/9 2013 3.81Fip to 2.82ERA (60IP/ 7HRs) 6.8hits/9. 2012 3.21Fip to 2.78ERA 15HRs but 8.5hits/9 Less HRs and Ks/9 but higher Hits and the closest his ERA resembled Fip. Nelson keeps producing under 8hits/9 he will outproduce his Fip continually. Half a year of Cueto netted Brandon Finnegan, Cody Redd, and John Lamb. 3 SPs. A trade of Nelson had better beat that if I'm even considering a trade of him. Mentioned Red Sox. Devers, Benintendi, Kopech, and Trey Ball would be my asking. Yes, but even if you are skeptical of FIP, Nelson is a 4.00 ERA pitcher in his career. Having a 3.00 ERA after a handful of starts in 2016 (when his peripherals have not improved any) does not really make him a great starter... I think you're going to be disappointed if you're valuing him anywhere near Cueto. Rafael Devers is a nonstarter.
  8. Nelson has a 4.62 FIP this season. He had a 4.11 ERA last season. I guess he's technically the best since Gallardo, almost by default, but he's really not that good. Sheets is the only Brewers-developed pitcher in recent memory who was truly great.
  9. The theory would be that there is no elite talent at #5 in this year's draft, so it makes sense to get a very good player (like Perez) and then 1-2 additional very good players later on. Though maybe Perez wouldn't even be underslot for us, I'm just going off the fact that he has no college commitment.
  10. #1 on my draft board is Delvin Perez, because I would prefer to get an underslot deal and spend more later in the draft. Unfortunately for us in the year we are picking #5, by all accounts this draft class is deep rather than stacked at the top. None of the top prospects are without flaws (I wouldn't even be surprised if Perez is in play at 1-1 for Philadelphia).
  11. Somehow it seems worse given that this guy definitely wouldn't have quoted Gomez the way he did if Gomez was having an MVP season. It's basically "You're having a bad season and I'm mad at you, here I'll make fun of the fact that English is not your first language."
  12. K/PA is available on Fangraphs as K% (and possibly under the advanced metrics on Baseball-Reference now as well?).
  13. Jeffress is basically just putting up his career averages, except K/9 which is actually low. He's a very solid reliever who is now demonstrating he can be closer and convert save opportunities (since teams actually care about that), so I imagine he has a fair amount of value.
  14. Good for him, glad to see guys staying with a single franchise. When you're a pitcher with an injury history, it's hard to argue with the "safe" option of taking a $175,000,000 payday.
  15. Saw the first part of this thread title from the forum homepage and thought you were looking for a pocket doppler.
  16. Arcia is not even in the same league as Giolito as as prospect. I think Arcia has way too much helium among Brewers fans. He has a very solid chance of being a solid starting SS like Alcides Escobar. He is not a future superstar.
  17. Sounds like a cover story so the NFL can make the laughable claim that it is meaningfully testing any of its players.
  18. Saw a story today that the Angels were working out Kyle Lohse. I'm so sorry, Anaheim...
  19. Contrary to Mexico as a whole, Mexico City is not particularly dangerous. It's likely safer than a number of American cities with MLB franchises. If the concern is that players would not want to live there, I suspect there are quite a few MLB players who would be lining up. The population is obviously much poorer than in the United States, but we're talking about a city the size of New York here. Even if the middle class is a tiny percentage of the population, the (hopeful) fanbase for a flagship Mexican franchise would be so huge that I doubt they would have any trouble making money. It would be interesting to see what they set ticket prices at.
  20. Manfred suggests Mexico City and Montreal. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/25579374 I think a Mexico City franchise would be awesome!
  21. I'm not sure weight (or lack thereof) is the greatest metric for evaluating a pitching prospect... It's gospel for some. There's an organization that I read about (I can't remember who it was) who told their scouts not to bother looking at pitchers under 6'2". I understand why size is exciting but dismissing a pitcher because he's "short" is just stupid. Well, at least height does directly affect the mechanism of pitching. But given the range of Cy Young winners from Bartolo Colon to Tim Lincecum, I'm not sure the fact that Davies is skinny really tell us all that much.
  22. I'm not sure weight (or lack thereof) is the greatest metric for evaluating a pitching prospect...
  23. I feel like they brought back K-Rod in 2013 and 2015 with the knowledge that he might get flipped. Though of course they were still trying to win at that point as well.
  24. No question about that. But the key is can he be close to these numbers 3 months from now, and then hopefully have a hot streak during the trade window? Like I said earlier, teams aren't stupid they know what Chris Carter is. At the same time, teams recognize adding a power hitter who is hot, even it only lasts a month or two. Which reminds me a lot of Adam Lind and the return we received for him. While we will not know the impact of the three young pitchers the Brewers received for him, it was very hard at the time to not think the Brewers could've/should've gotten more for Lind. The rest of the league knows these players too. The Lind trade was confusing because Lind has a track record of being an excellent platoon hitter, not because we were selling after a career year.
  25. You knew the team was going to be bad this season. Everybody knew! I don't understand what people get out of complaining about the obvious. Just sit back and enjoy the baseball without the stress of actually expecting the team to win. We're in a rebuilding year. (Granted basically all of our prospects are off to atrocious starts, but that's another story...)
