  1. In reverse order of actually trying to help his team win (which is the only thing I care about as a sports fan, as opposed to amateur moral theorist) (i.e. greatest "crime" to least): 1) Favre 2) Rose (neutral) 3) Braun
  2. Jon Singleton has twenty times as much value as AJ Reed.
  3. Sure I can, because Segura's good year came at the MLB level (not A+...), and because Segura plays shortstop. Simple as that. Major league shortstops have fantastic value. However, my point wasn't that Nimmo stinks, but merely that I don't see what value he brings to us above our existing options (such as Tyrone Taylor).
  4. He's also 23 and put up a .280 AVG and .940 OPS in AAA this season with 47 BB to just 63 K (313 PA). Not to mention the incredibly team-friendly contract. I'm not settling for Singleton as a centerpiece of a Gomez trade, but that would be a huge coup for a guy like Parra. To the point that I don't think it is remotely realistic.
  5. I think Segura has tremendous value, but even if it were just for Gomez I don't think it's a good trade. Brandon Nimmo's only asset is that he can play CF competently -- he has a .707 OPS this season and other than a fantastic stint at A+ last season has always had an OPS in the .700s. Aside from his prospect pedigree, how much better is he than Tyrone Taylor (who is a year younger and playing at the same level this season). Wheeler at his best is a #2/#3 pitcher, is coming off a major injury, and already has two years of team control burned. No thanks.
  6. Gomez/Segura for Wheeler/Nimmo Someone find the accept button I will take that gamble. Yikes, no thank you... Would not accept that package just for Gomez.
  7. I'm not sure the Astros have a package that I would trade Gomez for. Appel is good but he's a mid-rotation starter, doesn't have the upside that we should be looking for. I would be thrilled with Parra for Singleton, but I doubt Houston pulls the trigger on that. He is young and (more importantly) cheaply controlled for a long time. Lots of value there.
  8. I wouldn't do that trade if I were the Brewers. Maybe just for Gomez that return is fair.
  9. I'm in denial about how bad Garza is. Maybe replace him with Peralta.
  10. I could see a team looking past Jed Bradley's 2015 struggles and adding him as a LOOGY flier, they are always in demand. Whether the Brewers still like him enough to protect him is another question.
  11. To San Diego: SS Orlando Arcia (MIL) 2B/3B Hector Olivera (LAD) To Los Angeles: RHP Tyson Ross (SDP) RHP Matt Garza (MIL) RHP Francisco Rodriguez (MIL) To Milwaukee: LHP Julio Urias (LAD) C Austin Hedges (SDP)
  12. Perhaps you are underestimating the trade value of Gomez and Lucroy.
  13. Has absolutely nothing to do with this, but isn't hot stove season in the winter? Given the Brewers' record, I consider July to effectively be the off-season.
  14. What realiable source thinks that? Just some fans? If a player is being pulled from a game it means a trade is very close and this time of year everything slips through the cracks before it happens. Not only that but a trade of that magnitude would be rumored right from the get go. It would be mind blowingly shocking if the Brewers were to trade Lucroy before anyone else....it would be shocking if he is traded period this deadline. Blockbuster trades happen all the time with zero advance notice, especially if/when the Brewers are involved. But yeah, fans generally overreact about players getting pulled. Just part of the fun (?) of hot stove season.
  15. Suddenly very interesting if true, because I can't think of a catcher on the trade market who would command Jackson in return other than Luc. (Maybe Wieters, but I wouldn't think the Orioles would want to trade him)
  16. It's not even within the realm of being realistic. We are trading Lucroy AND Gomez AND Lind for only one of Houston's top-10 prospects coming into the season? (Plus Singleton, who was a top prospect, but has obviously fallen off a cliff). It's absurd.
  17. This is a complete joke and would never happen. In my mind, it's in the same league as proposing Carlos Correa for Matt Garza and cash.
  18. http://reactiongif.org/wp-content/uploads/GIF/2014/08/GIF-bored-Dr.-Evil-meh-right-sarcastic-skeptical-whatever-yea-right-yeah-yeah-right-GIF.gif
  19. Chance Sisco would be a fantastic return for Parra, I would be all over that.
  20. My purely anecdotal impression is that BA tends to value defense at shortstop more than BP (which is probably closer to the reality of how teams/GMs evaluate players, but further from what us as fans are hoping for, i.e. star quality)
  21. Segura's career OPS vs LHP (when having the platoon advantage): .670 It's actually lower than his overall career number and is still much lower than Scooter's career OPS even with Scooter's anemic AB's against LHP. Yes, but that's ignoring what's actually the key stat when talking about a platoon vs. everyday player: Segura career vs RHP = .679 OPS Gennett career vs LHP = .302 OPS
  22. Was trying to find video of Clark's cycle and found this instead (video of his draft day party): Kind of cool! Also, somebody brings him a Brewers hat almost immediately after his name is called so I guess there was (not surprisingly) some pre-draft discussion there.
  23. Fair enough, but if that's the case then Melvin should cross you (or the Mets) off his list of trade possibilities, not lower the asking price for Segura.
  24. I remember the same negativity directed at Carlos Gomez for many years.
  25. I think you could've made this argument after 2013. I don't think you can anymore. The first half of 2013 is looking like the fluke. I think you could maybe get a top 90-100 guy and then a rookie ball wildcard type prospect as sweetener but if Segura is traded I think you're going to be incredibly disappointed with the return if you're expecting two top 100 prospects for him. Then he shouldn't be traded. Loads of players breakout after age 25, that's why he still has tremendous upside (that he flashes on occasion). Even when Arcia is ready, we still have a substantial hole at 2B (unless they trust Sardinas enough), so Segura is not value-less to us.
