John Olerud always used to wear a helmet while playing in the field, I don't see why pitchers couldn't. Although to protect the face they would need a facemask and that would probably interfere with pitching.
The text of the agreement is not ambiguous. Threatening an additional violating for lying to MLB is clearly ridiculous. Why else would he suddenly cooperate? His love of The Purity of Baseball ? Ok, just like everyone has the right to be outraged by MLB's conduct. Do you think Braun's camp leaked it? If not, then it was MLB or an agent of MLB. He has clearly suffered damages but likely did not pursue them (probably would have been via arbitration for breach of the agreement) in order for the whole matter to go away.
Because they are disregarding the content of their collective bargaining agreement and are using their superior financial resources to de facto blackmail Bosch into turning over, all to expose a crime that nobody should really care that much about. Nevermind the fact that MLB (or an agent of MLB) seriously damaged Braun's career by leaking his initial positive test in the first place, quite unethically (and illegally).
There is also an explicit provision that "Players shall not be subjected to multiple disciplines as a result of the same use of a Prohibited Substance." Just reading through the JDA, I'm not even sure how strong their case is for suspending a player without an actual positive test (as opposed to evidence of mere purchase/possession). MLBPA is not going to let 10+ star players get suspended for 100 games... No chance. This is just grandstanding by MLB to pretend that they are tough on drugs.
Not surprised. MLB is still furious that they lost in arbitration during the first Braun allegations, so they're going to do anything in their power to get back at him this time. Worst part is they can have the flimsiest evidence in the world (and it sounds like they do...) but I'm guessing the public at large will believe them no matter what.
I'm loving these HRs, but let's not get carried away on the Yuni bandwagon. Dude still had a sub-.300 OBP coming into today's game and is one of the worst defenders in baseball.
I haven't been following the team that closely over the last week or so, can someone explain to me WHY BLAKE LALLI IS STARTING AT 1B??? He is a catcher with a career .680 OPS at AAA. He's not even an AAAA player.
I agree with that. I think intentional HBP and home plate collisions are stupid too (baseball is not a sport where you need violence for it to be exciting). I just don't think Quentin is a monster for doing what he did since it is sort of "part of the game" (and he did seem to think Greinke was throwing near his head). Some people are saying he deserves a 3+ month suspension... (and ignoring that Greinke could have done a lot more to not provoke the fight). I wonder if that would be the case if the popularity of the respective players were reversed.
