  1. Well nobody can accuse Melvin of not betting on high-risk upside. Kevin Goldstein had Hellwig #3 entering the season, btw (behind Trout and Segura), so above players like Cowart/Richards
  2. Also important to note that, although he was very highly regarded coming up, Escobar looked horrendous in his MLB time with Milwaukee.
  3. Hat-tip to GormanHarvey, who broke this trade on Brewerfan.net well before Ken Rosenthal.
  4. Way easier than starting-caliber SS. Check free agency any given year, lots of above-average 1B/3B/LF/RF.
  5. Ummmmm, well, ok, forget it... Corner IF/OF with power? Not saying Mike Olt couldn't turn into a superstar, but in general his skillset is easier to buy through free agency. Assuming you have the inclinatuion to be buyers, or have the money to spend on a slugger like that. We couldn't keep Prince... Thinking Olt will turn into Prince is extremely optimistic though. More realistic ceiling is somebody like... A-Ram.
  6. BA Preseason Top 10 for Angels #2 Jean Segura (behind Trout) #4 Johnny Hellweg #9 Ariel Pena In terms of tools, Johnny Hellweg was given Best Fastball and Best Curveball in the system, Ariel Pena was given Best Slider
  7. Ummmmm, well, ok, forget it... Corner IF/OF with power? Not saying Mike Olt couldn't turn into a superstar, but in general his skillset is easier to buy through free agency.
  8. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal Confirmed: Ariel Pena and Johnny Hellweg are two #Angels Double A pitchers heading to #Brewers along with Segura for Greinke.
  9. 1) Segura was on the BA midseason top 50, so he is a top 50 prospect. 2) They're getting Greinke for like 10 starts...
  10. If the Brewers scouts think Segura can be a MLB shortstop for the next six years, hard to imagine a better return that that. Mike Olts are easy to buy, shortstops are not.
  11. Just based on John Sickels ratings best possible would be John Hellweg (RHP) and Daniel Tillman (RHP)
  12. Cesar Izturis BE GONE! http://gifsoup.com/webroot/animatedgifs4/1197584_o.gif
  13. GormanHarvey wins! Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal BREAKING: #Angels close to acquiring Zack Greinke from #Brewers, sources tell me and @jonmorosi. *Edit* Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal Deal is done: Greinke to #Angels, sources tell me and @jonmorosi. **Edit** Segura part of package!
  14. Ok, maybe Greinke and some lesser pieces, but that is not nearly enough for Greinke/Hart. Grimm and Sardinas are second-tier prospects.
  15. Not seeing this anywhere. [sarcasm]Sounds like another done deal.[/sarcasm] You should see it shortly. My source is pretty reliable. Not trying to create a frenzy. Just passing on what I heard from someone that would know. Ok, becoming more interesting! Hopefully Segura is included (and Bourjos not) if true.
  16. Olt/Sardinas/Grimm for Greinke alone isn't unrealistic.
  17. Not seeing this anywhere. [sarcasm]Sounds like another done deal.[/sarcasm]
  18. Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale The #marlins are leaving no doubt that they intend to trade Josh Johnson w #Rangers still heavy in talks Uh-oh...
  19. Come on, Doug. We have a Ryan "Chocolate Wonderfall" Braun, but we need a "Cotton Candy Machine"!!!
  20. Non-prospect like Quintana who has had a good month in the MLB, plus a couple other similar players? I would honestly prefer the sandwich pick. you are nuts, you'd rather take a player that may never make it out of A+ ball vs players who are actually already playing in the majors??? You can pick plenty of crappy pitchers who have played in the majors off the scrapheap every year, if that's the only criterion.
  21. Non-prospect like Quintana who has had a good month in the MLB, plus a couple other similar players? I would honestly prefer the sandwich pick. In terms of mystery team: Greinke + Gomez to WAS Rendon + Meyer to MIL
  22. He must have pretty poor upside though, because nobody ranked him in the top 10-15 prospects in the weakest system in the majors coming into the season. Maybe a nice throw-in, but not as a major piece of a Greinke trade.
  23. When Melvin trades Greinke for Robert Andino and a RP, there will only be stunned silence, then thousands of clicks as browser windows are quietly closed and we all go off to watch the Olympics.
  24. Bad news from Jason Stark: The Braves may not have announced on anybody's radio show that they've moved on with Zack Greinke, the way they did for Ryan Dempster, but they are telling teams that they're turning their focus away from the rotation and are shopping more for bullpen and bench pieces. That would be an indication they have no interest in dealing Julio Teheran for a rental player. It's also an indication that they will have a tough time convincing themselves they can re-sign Greinke in the wake of the Cole Hamels contract. (But also good news, because it means Melvin is not backing down from wanting a lot. Could also just be negotiating ploy by Braves.)
  25. [sarcasm]Heard this: Melvin wanted to trade for Mike Olt, but couldn't because the folder with his contract in it was already in Miami.[/sarcasm]
