    Samardzija is a major buy low if we could get him in large part as a salary dump. 4.58 ERA this season but his peripherals are very strong. Given our payroll this season and next, I'd prefer a salary dump guy rather than giving away prospects.

    I wouldn't give up Hader for Quintana, who has not looked that great this season. Are there no legit #1/2 rentals available this season?

    It's not like he was a reach. Just because we have a bunch of OF currently doesn't mean the shouldn't be taking the best player available.

    If he would be losing out on $4+ million and has consensus top-10 stuff and isn't injured, then yes, quite obviously he should have threatened to do that. The question here is whether he has any leverage, he obviously does/did. It's a moot point now that he's been selected in the mid-first-round.

    Can't he just go back to college, have an elite season with no off-field issues all year, and count on top-10 money as a senior? (Easier said than done, but at least he can threaten that)

    Romero would be amazing. Take Hiura underslot, and give Romero mid-first $ to sign. Am I correct that his off-field stuff was all nonsense like being photographed with a a bong?

    Brilliant selection, as I would have expected under Stearns. For those complaining that he doesn't have a position, that's because of his elbow injury this season, which is also why we will be getting the (arguably) best hitter in the draft class at #9 for underslot. It's not because he's a DH/1B-only guy. You take a guy who is ranked lower because of something that ultimately won't matter (his likely TJ surgery), and then use the $ to get another elite guy at our next pick.

    Wow, this is shocking. I can't think of a comparable situation, where an established young star was suddenly gone. Not trying to compare tragedies, but for some reason it seems to have a more visceral impact than when a prospect (Adenhart, Tavares) or a veteran player (Munson, Clemente - though of course it is a ridiculous context in which we consider people in their 30s "old") dies in an accident.

    Ken Rosenthal seems to be the only one to have mentioned a fourth piece. Slightly worried this is it.

    I like Mejia better than Zimmer/Frazier. This still seems a little light unless the fourth piece of Sheffield or McKenzie though.

    I will guess Mejia, one of those pitchers (preferably McKenzie), and some low-minors guy ranked >20 in the Indians organization.

    The one red flag is that Lucroy had Cleveland on his limited no-trade clause in the first place. They have best record (W%) in the AL though, you'd think he would accept.
