  1. If the Brewers' players are struggling because the Cubs picked up a good, not great pitcher, well then that is on the players. I also find it funny that starting pitching hasn't seemed to be discouraged, just the hitters and relievers? Maybe, just maybe its talent level coming back to reality?
  2. I know Suter isn't this good, but how the heck did Espino ever get a start?
  3. Can someone explain why CC pulled Knebel after 7 pitches? Why bring in Torres?
  4. Yeah, it's crazy. The Crew has three of the best hitters in baseball in Ruth, Braun, and Pindy -- three of the worst hitters in Villar, Broxton, and Arica -- and two guys performing solid in Santana and Shaw.
  5. I don't typically wear other teams hats, but I have bought a few of the retro ones. I owned/own a Padres brown/mustard/orange hat, a burgundy Phillies hat, and an old school Expos one.
  6. You beat me to it, but this is exactly right. UW liked him, but absolutely needed a PG in the 2016 class. Trice has had his ups and downs, but he appears to be a good one too. Only when Dearring transferred did a scholarship open up and they took Ford along with Trice. By all accounts, Ford looks to be a good one as well, but we will have to wait until he actually suits up for a real game to find out. I think Joey Houser ends up at MSU, but like tmwiese55 said, I sure hope not.
  7. Brewers Record: 75-87 Playoffs: No Brewers MVP: Keon Broxton - Even if he is close to 2nd half, I think he can be elite Brewers CY Young: Zach Davies - Obvious choice, but I think he is Kyle Hendricks - Lite Brewers ROY: Josh Hader First player traded: Chase Anderson Surprise player(s): Whatever Catching tandem makes the team Disappointing player: Orlando Arcia - Don't believe in the bat yet World Series: Dodgers over Red Sox
  8. One win on the open market is worth roughly $8 million. I realize WAR is not everything, but if using that as a standard, Carter would be get about $8 million if he were a free agent. Last year, he produced only .4 WAR and got $2.5 million. Pedro Alvarez, while left handed, got $5.75 million last year after producing just .2 WAR in 2014 & 2015 COMBINED. I think it safe to assume Carter would get more than that this year. Yah I will pass on the whole "1 WAR is worth this" stuff. Don't know about you, but I don't think Scooter Gennett is getting $8mil on the open market. Also don't think Khris Davis is going to go out and nab $24mil a year. Ryan Braun would also be a total bargain(worth $36mil), but that also hasn't come to fruition. I can't argue with you one bit on those other guys and I agree I wouldn't use $8 million per win as gospel either. I guess more my point was that if Pedro Alvarez who was really really bad got $5.75 million and John Jaso got $8, I think Carter would get roughly that too.

  10. Beat me to it. Welcome back -- I don't post much, but have been on this board since the mid 2000's and you were the first poster really to get me to look into advanced stats. My question is: Can Villar play 2B? I think that would be his ideal spot next year as he would be more valuable there and Scooter is a pretty bad every day player.

  12. Happy now? Baseball America 70. Francisco Mejia c Indians
  13. Wren was acquired by Melvin and never played in Houston organization. Broxton was acquired by Stearns. Stearns has blinders on. Now I'm not saying other GM's don't want to make themselves look good too, but knowing when you made a mistake is the sign of an exceptional GM. What blinders are you referring to? Broxton actually has a higher .OPS than Wren at Colorado Springs so unless you are just wanting to try something different, then I see no reason why to get worked up over this. Now, if you want Wren up over Elmore or Wilkins (who are both terrible), then I can see your point.
  14. Hopefully this clears things up. Bob Klapisch ‏@BobKlap Am told Lucroy to #Mets is "not happening" according to source familiar with talks w #Brewers.
  15. Based on your logic, who cares what the Brewers did in 2006? Montgomery came on board in late 2014. That is really all that we need to judge at this point. He has since drafted three guys in the first round, two of which are in the top-60 prospects in all of baseball. Obviously we have no idea if any of the three that will pan out, but I don't care what Seid did; I care what Montgomery is doing.
  16. Agreed. He appears to be a good GM, but he also has taken jobs in Boston and Chicago - two clubs with massive payrolls (the Red Sox had the 2nd highest in baseball when they won the WS in 2004 - he's a genius!). And on top of that, just as in Boston, if he leads the Cubs to a championship he will be revered forever in that town. So really, smart guy in more ways than one, but it's a lot easier to do it in a big market with financial advantages than it is in Milwaukee or Tampa. I don't think you two are giving him nearly enough credit. The main reason the Cubs are good is his trades for Arietta, Rizzo, Russell, Hendricks, his rule 5 pick of Rondon, his drafting of Bryant (yes having 2nd pick helps), and value signings like Hammel and Fowler. The only two real high priced guys that have panned out are Zobrist and Lester. In Boston, he had the balls to trade Nomar and also don't forget signing Big Papi when he was a nobody. If Sternes can use the Brewers' assets to land future superstars like Arietta and Rizzo, I would be beyond thrilled.
  17. That write-up was seriously impressive and a great read. Props my friend. One thing I will disagree slightly with is the quoted above. I don't think anyone knows what to expect of Wheeler right now, but he could be a headliner. I realize it was a different regime, but if he was good enough to be a headliner in a Gomez deal, he is good enough to be one in a Lucroy deal. Gomez and Lucroy should have pretty much equal value. Gomez wasn't having as good of year heading into the trade deadline, but he was coming off two straight years of being a top-15 player in all of baseball.
  18. Amen to that. My favorite Brewer team of all time was not the 82 team or the 08 team. It was the 79 team, with the 78 team a close second. Those teams won a lot but didn't make the postseason. That didn't make those seasons any less enjoyable or memorable. Curious to what you think of this year's team? I am finding myself enjoying this team more than almost any in my lifetime. I love seeing guys like VIllar, Perez, and Davies take advantage of playing time and show they have a future. Anderson, Hill, Carter, and even Nieuwenhuis providing value that not many of us thought possible. The bullpen has been fantastic and despite some frustrations, this team seems to play hard every night.
  19. I know I am in the minority on this board, but I would much prefer a hitter over a pitcher this year. I think it is more important that the Brewers don't miss than getting a potential front line pitcher. There is just too much volatility with all the choices this year. Based on their history, I also don't trust the Brewers minor league instructors to develop said pitcher correctly. I do 100% agree with Plush though in that I don't want it to be an under slot signing. If they think Ray, Rutherford, or whomever is the best bat available, then that is who I want them to take.
  20. I think I gotta go Perez here. The potential Correa comparisons are too much to pass up. 1.5 Delvin Perez, SS By the way, my high school classmate is first cousins with Riley Pint. Cuba City, WI will be beaming with pride on draft night.
  21. They really need to start playing Perez every day. We know Scooter sucks, at least give Perez a shot.
  22. Ramirez and Barnes are the same age, and Ramirez has posted a sub 1.5 ERA in the Majors just two years ago. Maybe he never gets his velocity back, but I am not sure that constitutes as "dime a dozen".
  23. ‏@ChrisCotillo Source: Brewers claim RHP Neil Ramirez off waivers from Cubs. This is interesting as the 40 man roster is full. With Smith coming back, Goforth is probably a lock to be sent down. Who's spot will Ramirez take? I am hoping it's Torres over Jhan Marinez.
  24. Davis has roughly a .770 OPS driven entirely by slugging %. While I think Santana has been disappointing (I had/have high hopes for him), his OPS is roughly .740 driven almost entirely by OBP. When Davis was Santana's age, he had a combined .850 OPS.....split between A+ and AA. This doesn't even count the two prospects the Brewers got for Davis.
