  1. This is exactly how I feel. I love Nelson and think he is going to be a great starter. However, with only throwing two pitches right now, he would immediately solve our "8th" inning guy role.
  2. Pretty much agree, but I would replace Mrs. Doubtfire with Awakenings. Patch Adams would be my 5th. I know critics hated it, but I also really enjoyed Patch Adams. Cannot believe Williams and Phillip Seymour Hoffman are both gone.
  3. This is just so sad. I saw this on another site, but Mt. Rushmore of Williams movies? I am going with: Goodwill Hunting, Dead Poets Society, Good Morning Vietnam, and Mrs. Doubtfire
  4. I use to like Scout, but lots of poor posters now. My favorite site is now: http://buckyville.yuku.com/forums/3/Badger-Basketball-Board/Badger-Basketball-Board
  5. Wonder if RRR will take him out in the 9th for Schafer again? That still just burns me... While I certainly agree that the decision by RR was horrible, lets not pretend Reynolds was guaranteed to do anything. He looked horrible yesterday in the 9th vs. the same guy.
  6. ^^ This!! I don't think the double steal was on RR at all, but its ridiculous to use a lesser reliever with the top of the order coming up. If a save situation does come up, wouldn't you rather have Wooten pitching with a lead instead of a tie game? In 2014, I cannot believe managers allow a statistic to dictate how they manage.
  7. But don't give him any credit for going to the backup catcher in the 6th inning. Most managers would not do that. Also, that did not look like a sac bunt. Gomez hasn't swung since getting hit in the wrist. They were 2 for 2 on steals, but I will give you that. Weeks isn't overly fast anymore.
  8. Record: 88-74 All Stars: Jonathan Lucroy, Jim Henderson Biggest Surprise: Wily Peralta Biggest Disappointment: Jean Segura Playoffs: Lose the one game play-in Place in Division: 2nd World Series: Nationals over Tigers
  9. http://bloximages.chicago2.vip.townnews.com/host.madison.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/9/89/98993be2-b325-11df-8242-001cc4c03286/4c79e1764fe61.preview-300.jpg
  10. Congrats to both Jean Segura and Carlos Gomez for making their first All Star Games. Segura should start if Tulo can't play. Despite an awful year, these two give the Crew hopes in the future.
  11. Definitely not an attack. I just thought it was an interesting question that a buddy of mine brought up on how to get frontline pitching. Felt relevant to post here.
  12. It was a hypothetical which I didnt really think was that hard to figure out. In any case, if the Cards offered a trade like that, would you take it if you were Milwaukee? It would give the Brewers a frontline pitcher with 5 more years of control. As someone put it earlier, would Segura + #5 Starter > Shelby Miller + Replacement Shortstop? I don't know the answer to that.
  13. I get the point you are trying to make but IMO if we trade Gomez, yes we need to get value back equal to Gomez. Gomez is one of our most valuable potential trading chips. I would never concede losing a trade to part with these guys just to fill a hole somewhere else that may constitute a net improvement if we acquire a pitcher over our #5 who is a greater help than Gomez over Schafer. Gomez is a CF with pluses across the board -- power, average, speed, and defense. These guys are so valuable, particularly one leading MLB in WAR and one with a great contract situation. I put Gomez with Braun right now where you don't move him unless you get blown away. We can always re-visit a deal for him in a year or two if the price isn't right. I don't see an immediate need to make room for Schafer in the outfield, as I think he's going to need to show a little more than this to get me to buy into the hype. He's going to need to do better than a .619 OPS to cut it as a starter at any OF position. How do you get better unless you are willing to trade guys? It seems dumb to me just to stand pat because you can't get equal value. You need to get the best deal that will help your club even if you don't get equal value. So would you trade Segura for someone like Shelby Miller? Yes, I know that would never happen, but if you could deal a SS with crazy high value for a pitcher with crazy high value, would you? I don't know my own answer to this, but it would be one way to get young frontline pitching.
  14. perfect post. the brewers have gotten by with band-aids the last few years. the brewers are out of band-aids. there are no more prospects left that are good enough to net the team an ace pitcher. a minor rebuild is necessary. aramis, hart, or both could bring back good prospects. the brewers just cannot keep ignoring pitching. the cardinals kicked the brewers @ss in 2011 because they had pitching. the cardinals had 2 aces in carpenter and wainwright, a solid #3 in jamie garcia, edwin jackson was decent, and i dont remember the #5 guy. The above post about the Cards in 2011 is just so far off 1) Wainwright was out all year and didn't pitch 2) The Cards didn't have a starter go more than 5 innings all series. They won because Larussa managed circles around RR who managed the series like the regular season. Also because David Freese hit like Babe Ruth and Albert Pujols hit like, well Albert Pujols.
  15. I for the life of me cannot get over the infatuation with some have in Mat Gamel. The guy has gotten opportunities in the big leagues and did nothing. I know the argument will be that he wasn't given consistent at bats, but guys like Casey McGhee, who were not prospects, made the best of his inconsistent at-bats and got more playing time. Maybe Gamel didn't have a chance because he couldn't adequately play 3B, but he still didn't hit. This year when given a chance, he was not good. I know small sample size, but what in his .650 OPS did you see that looked good? His ZiPS projection was .774 this year and that is not good for an average at best 1B. It's unfortunate he got hurt and I want him to succeed, but I just don't see it. Guys like Brandon Wood, Brett Wallace, Dallas McPherson were way bigger prospects than Gamel and they all failed in the majors. Some guys can just rake at AAA and struggle in the big leagues. He is also 27, only one year younger than Travis Ishikawa (who was a top prospect in the Giants organization).. I will also gladly eat crow if he ever becomes more than an average big leaguer
  16. Could Gomez be a decent every day player if they would just hit him 7th? This isn't a knock a RRR because most managers bat fast guys high in the order. I know a sub .300 isn't good but I think he could hit 15 to 20 hr playin every day.
  17. I am asking this to the stat folks out there and because I really don't know what to think. If you watch Greinke, his stuff is amazing he certainly passes the eye test. He is the one Brewers pitcher out there that I feel that could throw a no-hitter any given start. I know that his FIP, xFIP, and all other peripherals show that he is unlucky. His ZiPs projection shows he should dominate the rest of this year.....However, his ERA for the past three years are listed below. 2010: 4.17 2011: 3.83 2012: 3.58 You could say he is unlucky, but guys on the same team produce better ERA's. I mean Randy Wolf had a better ERA last year. They basically had the same crummy defense and same park factors so is it really bad luck? I guess, I just am not sure I want to pay $20 million plus for that type of player. For the stat folks, is it just that eventually he should have another year like 2009? Is is the alternatives are just that bad?
  18. And I'm saying you just joined the board last month. I've been here for 6 or 7 years. And I didn't say tons, I said 5-10. Guys that I mentioned above, that use advanced stats and understand there's more to baseball than a guy just "being hot." I'm going to stick up for Pete here. I've been reading this board for 5-6 years but just began posting. The reason why is because of all the rediculoous posts about RR. And i want to say im not even a big fan but this board has become almost ubbearable. I work in statistics and played baseball through college. I get advanced stats, I really do... But most on this board live and die by them and think these players are robots

  20. Exactly. And I can't believe he didn't argue the call. This is definitely his fault if the Brewers lose.
  21. And quoting some stupid ZiPS projection like its the bible isn't perfect either. You don't see batting practice or who is working hard. Just let it go.
  22. I realize you need to complain about RRR everyday, but seriously, how many times have you made a complaint like this; So today he doesn't just stick Aoki or Gomez into Braun's spot and you're mad that he's shuffled the lineup instead. At least try to have some objectivity for crying out loud. ^ This
